Pro-Sports Style Tournament: Leadership Selection

PLEASE do not try to sign up for this tournament in this thread. Signups are in the thread labeled "signups." Any general questions you have about the tournament will be answered there as well.

The purpose of this thread is to select leaders for our teams. If we end up with enough people, we may expand to six teams so if a potential leader is not selected for one of the first four, he will still have a chance if more teams are created or another leader pulls out (which is unlikely).

Ultimately, the decision regarding who the leaders will be is up to me but as stated in the other thread, I am going to make my decisions entirely based on what everyone asks me to do. I will obviously pay more heed to the opinions of the participants in the tourney, as they're the ones that really need the best leaders possible but I would also greatly appreciate non-participant opinions.

I would ask everyone that would like to voice an opinion to vote for three of the potential leaders and rank them in order of which ones you want the most. If you want to rank them all go ahead but please have at least three. Reasons for your votes would also be appreciated.

To all the potential leaders: Please cast your votes as well but do not cast them for yourselves. We all know you consider yourselves qualified. You don't have to, but I highly recommend you post here arguing for why you would be a good leader. Please keep your comments about yourself and avoid tearing the other potential leaders down (with the exception of good-spirited and comical trash-talk which I highly encourage).

Make some arguments, try to change some minds, and keep in mind there are probably more people from your clan in this tourney than any other clan. Trust my judgment. And to everyone: keep in mind I'm more likely to take an opinion into consideration if you back it up with a reason.

I led AK to war with BG and brought us to leader vs. leader battle. :) Quite an accomplishment, seeing as BG was the #1 clan when we warred them. (They're still #3 after death, and going strong.)

Like Exile, I will pick my leaders without partisanship in mind, and I will not consider myself eligible to vote for myself. :) Top 3 votes get reasons.

1 - Dragoen Link: An accomplished leader, and my co-coordinator in battle strategy. Also, very well-rounded player (if not a bit lackluster in freestyle games), obviously a good judge of a player's ability. I have confidence that he'd make a good one. :)

2 - The Exiled: I don't know much about his credentials (although I'll take his word for it in terms of tag-team finals), but I know he's a good strategist, so he gets my #2 vote.

3 - Allstar: I don't know much about his tactical abilities, but I know he can guage a player's skill, being one of the best himself, so he gets the #3 vote for good judgement on one's abilities.

1. LonelyTylenol - I chose LonelyTylenol because I have been led by him in The Arcadian Knights, for about as long as AK has been around. He has always been a great leader, and I have never doubted his decisions.

2. Allstar - Allstar because, he is an outstanding player, and back when he led *Tao allstars* he was a good leader. I think he knows how to put together a team very well.

3. Dragoen Link - He has done a good job as being one of the leaders of AK in Great Lakes, and will continue to do so. He knows most of the People on Tao that are recognizable, fairly well. I think he will make a good leader in this also.

Yes, the problem is that people will just vote for a) who's in their clan, and b) who's on their home server. It completely misrepresents the actual skill of a leader.

Mithrandir, you should stick to your initial idea and pick the leaders yourself. Or extend it to 6 teams so all the interested leaders get a chance.

I wasn't saying vote for someone who's 750. None of the potential leaders are 750, they can all play or they wouldn't be signing up, would they?

Voting for the best player will do you no good at all if they're an awful leader; you'll get 1 good player and a lot of bad ones that the leader picked.

Finally, the tHeory is perfectly sound. Everyone who's voted so far have put their clanmates top, and if they don't have any clanmates up for leadership, they've voted for people on their server. Without fail.

This is why holding a popularity contest was a bad idea in the first place. You won't get the best leaders, which would make for an interesting contest; you get the most popular people.

Votes are votes, whatever the reasons are. But on the other hand, it seems like a flawed method to decide on something that matters this much. I'd like to hear more opinions from the participants but CK1 is not looking likely based on his level of support. Assuming we don't add any more teams and assuming no other potential leaders show up, that means eliminating one of the remaining five. As it looks, LT and allstar are pretty much shoo-ins, with DL looking pretty likely as well, leaving The Exile and wolf-boy fighting for the ever so important fourth spot. That's the current standings. It looks like the 4 leaders as far as voting is concerned are all but decided. But I still don't think the voting system is a good idea.

Going off activity alone though, the best bets would be LT, DL, Allstar and myself. And activity is more important than any other attribute for the leaders.

I don't know how DL figured out a point system, I'm assuming it was something similar to the clan rankings. I'm not going to pick leaders based on points though.

My conclusions: based on this, LT is the easiest choice as being obviously one of the top four because he only has one vote below fourth place and that was from someone not in the tourney. Everyone seems to agree he should be in the top four. He is also in second place as far as number of first place votes. Unless there is a significant change today, I think I'll establish LT as one of the leaders tonight.

AllstarGL is similar to LT in that he doesn't have many fifth and sixth place votes and he has a lot of people excited about him. Oddly enough, he only has 2 first place votes. However, it seems that he also is considered by almost everyone to be at least in the top four. There is a good chance I'll establish him in one of the leader spots tonight as well.

Dragoen Link is a little low on first and second place votes but almost everyone seems to like him in the top four. I'm not as confident about him as the previous two but he looks like he has a good shot at this.

The Exile is seriously the most difficult to read. He has the most first place votes with six and he also has the most fifth place votes and very little in other categories. I'm really not sure how to take that information, though those first place votes are very, very compelling. Even more compelling is his level of interest, which seems to surpass everyone else's.

Wolf-boy has votes all over the place, without a lot of concentration. He's definitely below The Exile in odds of being selected though and that's clear when you look at the numbers. He has a lot more first place votes, more second place votes, more third place votes less sixth place votes and almost the same number of fifth place votes. So wolf-boy has numbers working against him, as well as his lack of participation and shown interest (though I don't doubt he IS interested, as well as qualified).

Ck1's numbers are unfortunately so low (maybe partially due to the lack of posting on his part) that unless there is a significant change I'll have to rule him out from being in the top four tonight.

These are just current thoughts on how things are going. At this point, still, nothing is settled. But this is the way it is going right now.

Might I add that all those 5th place votes have been followed by "because I don't know you"? My short presence here is playing against me. And what effect does not been on these forums for long have on my leadership qualities? None at all.

I can't say this enough: the whole voting idea is stupid (even though it puts me in the top 4). You said in your original post that you would choose the leaders from the people who applied. Why not stick to that?

I don't know what the overall conclusion is going to be and how we'll reach it. But if everyone asked for Thash, I'd appoint Thash in one of the spots. People should have the right to choose their leaders at some level. If they choose someone less qualified that makes little sense to me but it's their vote to cast.

As it looks, the top four is logical and fits with pretty much any method we use. But it isn't over yet and I don't know what may end up changing. I hope the decision isn't a difficult one.

Oh well Exile you have no argument, since you are trying to correct grammar and spelling mistakes of my english, of course you will find a lot and will talk about this same way for weeks, since i am from brazil, a country that the language HAS NOTHING too similar to english you would just keep arguing with who is in the same conditions as you.

In furthering to make myself look better. For those of you who don't know, my gold on GL is zoma. And I just got out of a turtle game with Dragoen Link in which it came down to my golem and knight, and his golem and knight. There was no lucky breaks at the end, he was just one turn ahead of me. So it was a great game to say the least.

So while all you leaders probably have your dream-teams set up. You should bump me up in you rankins. :bigsmile:
