This what you have at your home. (home being where you currently reside, whether that be house, apartment, dorm room, basement....)

It's a local thing for my town. We have a router with wireless internet and nothing with phonelines or whatever. I really am stupid in this subject.

Hmm... well your first choice is "I have no internet at home." The odd thing is, if you're posting here, chances are.. you have internet. You get my drift? How else could you access these forums?

On a friend's computer? On a library computer? It reads "I have no internet at home", not "I have no access to the internet".

Yes, but he was questioning why I put that in there. You assumed (although correctly) why, whereas I posted why.

Yes, for around $100 a month.

I take it you are in a dorm? The lines you share there are more equivalent to slow cable due to the way they set up the bandwidth.

Just wondering. What do you use Jeff? :p

I use DSL for my laptop, and my brother uses Dial-up for his desktop. Damn, if only I know how to connect desktop to the DSL, then I can save some money on the internet service. Wicked. ;)

I use Cable at home.
And John Jay, drop $15 on a router. Hook it up to the dsl modem, and connect both computers to it. If you buy a wireless router (under $30) you can even roam with the laptop.

Jeffery, I already bought the wireless router. But the problem is that when I set up my connection, it kept asking me for the IP address and the like( I know my IP address, but I don't know about the other things that they asked me).

Should be automatic. Make sure your settings are so that it automatically receives it's IP.
Also, login to the router and make sure it is not set up with a security key.
If you tell me the router make and model, I'll tell you the login for it.

Okay, here is my wireless router. Somebody from the BestBuy recommended me to buy that router. He told me that it's good enough to get around the house.

That's a manual on how to set it up. You should be able to do it automatically.

Aye, I setup that same system at my parents house a few months ago. There is a setup wizard cd included that you should use, it takes you through all the basics and gets you connected.

You should have a Dynamic IP, meaning the system assigns you one at random. The only way you'd have a dynamic is if you paid extra for it.

Are you implying that I have to contact Bellsouth (MY ISP) and ask them for the dynamic IP, meaning there is noway I can install the wireless connection without the Dynamic IP?
