View Full Version : Profanity filter update

To many people are finding ways around the profanity filter like:
Fuk F U C K F|U|C|K SH1t etc etc.
Also to get rid of the cyber's Cyber needs to be a filtered word as well. So when a noob askes, any one want to cyber? I don't have to read it. They simply get booted.
It needs to be stricter, because I'm very honestly sick of reading it when I go into the chat.

Agreed. i just saw in the black list: cheaters and spammers that daemon diamond got s/s trying to cyber with others and got his gold account deleted (or i think is his gold account). lol, this is one of the first that a gold gets deleted for cybering.

Keep in mind, this is a professional company, who restricts profanity solely as a catering method towards the younger folk. There are many ways to get around it, but oh well. They'll never be able to restrict it completely, and truthfully, I don't really see the real need to restrict swearing. I guess just restricting the actual words is a nice step in the right direction.
Furthermore, restricting "Cyber" is not only futile, but also ridiculous. If I want to say "cyberspace", or "cybernetics" in a conversation, I darn well can if I want. We're not restricting words solely for the purpose of trying to eliminate spammers that could easily get around it. Especially when they could just say "Anyone wanna cy ber!?!?!". There's no point.

It's also irritating that misspelled swears get you booted. "Nigeria" because it contains "niger," for example. When the game boots you for NOT swearing, it's a little odd.
Some sneaks use this to their advantage, asking people to guess what African country they are from.
One was actually very clever about it, telling me he was writing a paper about Lagos and Abuja (one of the biggest cities, and the capital, respectively). He was very friendly the whole way through, so, suspecting no trickery, I said, something like "Oh, Nigerian politics?" and was immediately booted.
Luckily, I was playing with a throwaway 750 grey account.

It takes many years of honing your skills, and it helps to have easy targets like Frycock and Crack-head.

It really doesn't even matter anymore.
People can use the 'f' word at will, without being booted, or having to screw around with the spelling.
Maybe that's just Great Lakes...

All you have to do is make people sign this agreement. Doing any of the following will get your account terminated and you will be banned from futher playing of this game. You may not use any inappropriate language this can include any language that in any way looks like, sounds like, stands for, hints at, abbreviates, or insinuates any of the following: profanity, sexual content (including but not limited to explicit language, sexual innuendo, sexual content, and references to sexual preferences), slurs (including but not limited to racial, ethnic, and religious slurs), illegal drugs and illegal activities. Do you understand Yes/No
You would also need a place to report such actions in the forum or via e-mail but simply letting people know what they can and can't do will help considerably

This is a terrible idea. Following these rules (especially about hinting at illegal activities), I can think of about..... 99.99% of the TAO community that should be banned...

How do you make someone signing into a game sign your agreement? It has been proven time and time again that "checkmarking" yes or no does NOT constitue a legal agreement.
Right now people can and are deleted for such bahavior when they use it too much. If you see someone, take a screenshot an dreport them. The person is then dealt with.
If you object to it that much, go play Neopets.

Well, there would still be loop-holes in the filter no matter how strict it is. Cyberers would still be able to type cyb3r and other things.

Wow, now I get why this person was asking me to help him with his crossword puzzle. 7 letter African country Begins with "N". I guessed Namibia, and for some reason he left... LOL! That was like a week ago. How do you get a blond to laugh on Monday?

You shoot the blonde, take out her vocal cords, and make them produce laughter.

So i can't say like "I'm gunna kill you sucka", b/c murder is illegal? And I can't pretend to fondle warcow in the lobby anymore? Or call cavour my whore? Or Berzerker my biach?
Furthermore, soooo many things can be sexual innuendo. I mean, to try and avoid them all...It just looks so hard.
