View Full Version : Water Golem (a.k.a. Hydro Golem)

Here is yet another of my Golem creations. I was going to call it Water Golem, but that sounds sort of wimpy, so it could also be called Hydro Golem. Here it is:

------------------------------------------------------------

~Water Golem (a.k.a. Hydro Golem)~ (Golem Unit) /Rare\

Roaming the murky waters, ships have often cited these
creatures and often dealt with their fury. Sucking their
prey under the waters, Water Golems remain a force to be
reckoned with.

HP: 60
Armor: --
Range of Movement: 2
Blocking Rate: 30% Front, 15% Sides
Recovery Rate: 3 Turns
Attack: Whirlpool, Focus
Attack Pattern: Water Golem creats a whirlpool that stays
in a cross shaped pattern. WG can cast the whirlpool up to
three tiles away, therefore he can actually reach up to four
tiles away from him. (Just like the Pyromancer's attack)
The whirlpool stays as long as WG stays in focus. When
an opponent's unit touches the whirlpool, they receive
5-10 damage (random) and relocate the unit up to four
squares away from the Whirlpool tile that the unit
touched. (random placement) This effects the unit even if
they are walking "through" the Whirlpool effected tiles.
They do not keep moving in the direction they were after
relocation.
*Looks: Water Golems are blue and semi-transparent, with a red glow at their feet.*

Tactics: Try to keep your WG behind stronger units so it's
Focus is not broken. It's Whirlpool attack can be used as
an early offensive weapon to disorientate, or it can be
used as a great defensive "wall" against opponents.

------------------------------------------------------

- So, what do you think? Suggestions? Questions? Rants/raves?-

Problem: what happens when a unit runs into the whirlpool before it's completed its move? For example:

W = whirlpool
U = unit's starting position
T = unit's target position
R = random place where unit is thrown
X = mentioned in explanation

X-WT-
RWWW-
--W--
---U-

So, does the unit then move to X because it was going to move up one space from the place in the whirlpool where it landed? Or would it just stay at R after being thrown? Just looking for clarification here.

Also, why would it be thrown within four spaces of its original position? Why not four spaces of the place where it walked into the whirlpool? I mean, it would be quite annoying to walk three spaces foreward, then be thrown seven spaces back.

Interesting idea, but it needs some clarification.

It is now edited accordingly to answer all of your questions.

Oh, and have you checked out the Sand Golem? Please do if you haven't.

Still don't know whether a unit walking through would keep moving after relocation in whatever direction it was moving, or if it would stop upon relocation.

Thankee kindly.

As for my opinion on the unit, it sounds very interesting. However, it's uncomparable to other units, and thus playtesting would be required for me to evaluate how well it's balanced. Sorry.

Thats fine! I understand.

*BTW, are you a Dark Tower (Stephen King) fan, explaining the 'Thankee'?*

Nope, just weird. I think I heard it in some movie set in Plymouth or something when it was just being settled. I thought it sounded sufficiently weird to be adopted into my everday vocabulary.

Ahh. Yep, it's weird enough. :)

I like the unit.
The ability to do some damage while scattering your opponents forces would be highly valuable. And very annoying to play against.
You finally have your witch/pyro/whatever in position for a great attack, and suddenly it's blown off course.
I'd like to see this developed.

Hey, me too! :) I actually would like to see both of my units developed. lol

But hey, we can all shoot for something, eh?
