View Full Version : Practice Mode

The way I see it, the cool thing about TAO is coming up with interesting (and efficient) new formations. I usually spend lots of time looking at my units and how could I make the setup better.

When you look at it, it seems perfect  . But then you go to a fight and omg what a disaster  (not always of coarse...)

So... how good would it be if I could change my fight mode to "practice" and then play a game that doesn't take or give any status points. Literally "just to practice".

Nowadays you need to find someone with stats close to you and ask for a fight so that if you lose your loss isn't much significant...

I think this would increase a lot the game experience of the players. And would also give us a chance to try many new moves and formations...

Positive aspects:
- Better players

Negative aspects:
- Too much practice and no action. - A restriction could be set like 5 practice games a day or something...

that is why we have clans, when you are in a clan you can battle someone and you lose or gain 0 stats.

or you can make a new account and try it (only if it is a no drop form)

No, I think it's a good idea. If we had this, then there would be less clan-hopping beacuse of inactive members. 5 practice games a day would be great.

You could say /practice Wolfman, for example.

And then, on Wolfman's screen would be a message:

*** Forest_Archer has invited you to practice with him. Type /agree to accept. ***

... or something like that. Then the two players would land on a random arena and begin the match.

or when it says "Click here to play now" under it it says Demo... But I like your idea more, Forest.

Forest Archer I never saw your post man... So sorry...

I'm glad you liked the idea. Since I started playing I had wondered about this...

The only thing I think should be different is the use of "/command".

That is very unattractive for the game and the reason why people abandoned mIrc I think.

Implementing a new command is the easiest way, but I think making it "clickable" is more user-friendly.

hmm i dont know, I say playing with clanmates is more than enough practice. It would be too complicated to make a new server just for practice.

Sounds good.
Great to test formations on harder opponents.

My idea is that this would be an extra "battling mode", not a new server. I think many people would use the practice mode and stop playing for status so a new server would empty the other servers. That's why I think it should just be an extra feature.

I think that you could activate the "practice mode" in the settings and go to the lobby like we already do. But then your avatar would have something on it saying that you want to battle in practice mode so that people would know before challenging you.

Not a bad idea, however, the clan system allows for this or a throwaway account on Rev or the like.

I'd prefer a more urgent update.

This is what clans are for. If we set something like this up, there would be no real games because of people not wanting to lose stats.

My post includes a thought about it. Maybe you missed it:

This is a great idea..

On a side note, people have the right to not want to loose stats. There should not be a limit on practice.

This sounds kind of like when you go to yahoo to play pool. You can select rated, or unrated game, this idea is good, i'm neutral on it though.

It works for new users because:
- They don't know much about the game-play.
- Don't have a clan.
- Can't afford to lose a lot of status.
- Embarassed to do noob things in a battle (I know because I felt this way)

New users like to try the game even if they don't know how to play. (I have been jumped by many greys asking "how do I attack? how do I do this or that?")
The "action" is what attracts people to the game. Only after you get a little more experienced that you will start reading clan sites for good tips on the game.

So the timeline would be:
1 - Play to see if it is "cool" (practice)
2 - Dig into it (reading material)

Well, the grey accounts were made for exactly that, practice, or a trial account to see what they think. There has been some thought about having a tutorial video type deal for the new guys. If you feel like putting time into it, you could make a tutorial and submit it, i'm sure prize would be pretty good.

i like this idea, but i also think that people should be able to unanimously vote to unrate a game midgame, because i tried to play Eatmine, and i think i was gonna win both times, even though the second match he disagreed, but I play at the library, and those mean librarians will shoot you if you dont get off the comp when they say, so we had to draw each game, and i think he lost about 10 stats overall. This would be cool.
