I was thinking of this idea that would only take one screeny to catch boosting. When someome is boosting in red letters above the battle "Matching IP Address" will come up in red letters. This idea might stop people from cheating and if they are cheating it only takes one screeny to report them.

This would be useful for legends, since we need more anti-cheating devices. But im not so sure about fps.

You know ,this actually aint a bad idea, but the coding will be incredible for it.

Sorry, but how do we know when someone is boosting vs actually playing?

Actually... not so much.

bobdagangsta

if the IP's are the same matching IP adress will come up above and why would anyone be playing against themselves because that what it is if the IP's are the same.

dirka dirka
10-12-2005, 04:38 PM
if the ips are the same, the name should be red... revealing an ip is never good

bobdagangsta

i dont mean revealing the IP i mean above the battle have in red MATCHING IP ADRESS. Or you could do what dirka said which is a good point 2.

It's a good idea, but don't you think TN would have been banned by now if they could do this on FPS?

its a good idea however its easily defeated...a person with two computers could do it...also i've seen lots of people who get someone else to assist them with the boosting as they don't know how to get two screens up at once...

I want to see the solid proof that *TN* cheats.
Untill that, I dont think he does.

This isn't Legends.

This does sound like a useful idea, though. It still wouldn't stop the people that make other people type things that get them kicked out, though.

hey every1, i was just wonderin how you know when ppl take like screen shoots of ppl boostin, but the cheater can always have an excuse cause they can just say that they were playin the guy cause there is no time or date on screens shots so it cant be proved that the person was cheatin.

i just wanted to know if this is correct or not, cause i was told this by some1

Well, all you have to do is get multiple s/s's of them playing that person, and maybe stat them to show the ascent in stats.

How is a screenshot of the same person battling himself not solid evidence of cheating?

Xenon

Nice idea, doubt it will be developed into the game, there is already a good cheating/spamming/language/cybering ect. stopper and that is screenshots to mods/admins and then it will be sorted, if they go to a competent mod or sergiy that is.

Realist
10-14-2005, 07:14 AM
Its a very good idea; screenshots cannot catch skilled cheaters.

I never said it wasn't doable, i'm just stating the fact that it hasn't been implemented yet.

yeah, hellblazer, but wat if the guy uses different name how will a screeny help,

eg Dude11, how can u tell if he is fightin himself if he fights a guy called like SoccerPlaya, u cant thats the thing

Not a expert by no means in this but what would happen if say two people were playing on their laptops in a Starbucks or a place where there was internet hot spot. Would not both people be shown as having the same IP address?

Why not simply disallow two concurrent connections from the same IP per server. It's against the TOS anyways.

Displaying IP's would be bad, as allowing everyone to see the IP of a play might lead to privacy issues.

iceman2001
10-18-2005, 12:31 AM
Jeff is right, displaying the actualy IPs would be a big No-No. However, possibly displaying their names in red and not displaying their IPS might be a good idea. Realistically, however, I think this would require a lot of code and would require a lot effort from the TAO administration. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they really don't put many updates out there anymore, right?

I have heard what people say, they say that "he is a cheater, but he is a good player also".

There's couple of reasons why you may want to play yourself. Someone trying out LOS, testing the two side blocks = front hit theory, trying out assassin bomb to see if it really works, etc... I can see tons of reasons especially if they aren't in a clan.

There are alot of people that call people cheaters in this community...Usually means that they can't beat them and are jealous for whatever reason. A good player has no reason to cheat.

another idea is that if u played a game and both players in the game had matching IP's it would just not give them any stats. Or maybe not give them stats and put the red letters above the game? just some ideas :)

Having no reason no, and not doing so, are three different things.

*TN* was a good player. Some would say very good. He beat his share of players.
He also cheated, repeatedly, and continues doing so on Legends now that FPS ran him off mostly.

What do you do if two people of the same household are playing, or even at a library?

Owell. Unrated game. Its alot better than having cheaters.

Jeffery
10-22-2005, 04:22 PM
Not allow them to play against each other I guess. The few people affected by that rule would be far fewer the number of cheats currently using the same IP to play themselves.

mark77xx
10-23-2005, 12:32 AM
well the people with the same IP address would still be able to gain stats just not from eachother.

another idea is you could only get a certain number of stats off a player... that way couldn't just keep boosting off ur friends from a different IP address.

Then the game needs to keep an ongoing record of who's played who... which would completely annihilate the server

Actually, it wouldn't. That would only require a small amount of space. Eventually it would get large, however you could just... reset it.

Jeffery

Gameknot keeps track of all games, but for different lengths of time.
An example here could be
Free Accounts -Until wipe
Gold accounts- 3 months

A simple purge of data when it reached the expiration date would keep the database down some.

No, but they just don't exchange stats. Small price to pay for those who are cheating.

Jeffery
10-23-2005, 04:15 PM
No. But having a few people unable to play each other, or play each other for points, is a small price to play to prevent the larger issue of cheaters.

Undoable do to lack of coder.
