Well, I like to know when people were last active for like tournemants and stuff. So I say we do this :

WHen we type /stat (persons name) it has the stats, and last activity.

EX.

/stat Oblivion

That would be cool, great idea! Did you get that from Warcraft or something?

Nice. This would help in long-term tournaments to decide default wins.

Good thinking Elemental
It's this type of strategical thinking that will win us Mith's tourney!

No, I don't play warcraft. I just thought it would be a great idea.

The only problem I see is that it would be different for each time zone... How would it tell which time zone is for each eprson other then telling it in the begining? Other than that it is a good idea. It can be abused for tournaments if someone just got on for a second and logged of so it said they were active.

Well hell the rating system, can still be abused.

How strange for the suggestion forum.:p

A good and somewhat original idea.

Though technically the server already records the i.p and time of the log in, though it isn't possible to view seeing as that would violate half a dozen privacy rules ;).

The only 2 problems I could see arrising are a) the time differences, though not impossible or hard to program into the database seeing as it already records times that people log in

b) Programming the database to translate time area's would defently be a hassle to do. But again not impossible.

Jeffery

Time areas would not be needed. Sites usually use the time zone they are part of, and use it as the time of reference. Hence, 2pm would be 2pm (or more likely 1400) TAO time, no matter where a person is from.

True, sites usually record the time in which people log in, however uvault like most flash servers often record the time in which they were logged in from in there time area. So basically if you take me at this moment, I would be logged in at 9:45 P.M in Central Canada, however for someone like Omegashin who lives in Italy, would be around 3:45 A.M. However the servers can eaisly be modified to use EST, GMT, etc time area's so that you see that as the default.

Jeffery

That is simply the way the operator of the site set the time to be logged. And a very stupid way indeed.
The servers don;t have to be modified, just unmodified. Whoever set it to log local time is an idiot.

Your best bet would to go to a software company specialising in flash design and yell at them until you send rabid clowns that will come and eat there brains.

Jeffery

No, the best bet would be to look at Seed and laugh my ass off, as it's his game design that did it and him that set up the uvault accounts like that.

Another example of him being more artist than programmer, and not really knowing how to run TAO succesfully.

Moose

If you have an amazing idea on how to make TAO succesful, send an email to Seed with a business outline. Otherwise, TAO seems to be doing fine in exception from commercial based users wanting more and more then what is expected.

Jeffery

I did, note the Option F in your other thread.

Basically, it would require real coders and real admins that do work on a constant basis.
You know, like games that are really successful do.

Moose
10-16-2005, 10:06 PM
Well that in itself is a contradiction seeing as Seed never wanted to make TAO a big corperate blow out, sadly though he met Bills, thus current affairs are the way they are now for TAO :(.

Jeffery
10-16-2005, 10:14 PM
Which is why he sells the entire package to a large company, with a 5% of the sales clause in the contract, then laughs as they take the game and make it all about the moolah, rakes in the money and doesn;t have to work again for at least 3 years before TAO dies.

Like I said, if you have a "great view" on how to change things that goes into specifics and gives a "good game plan" on how to make things better instead of just insisting, "Lets get more programmers". Feel free to send it to Seed.

Otherwise things are doing well, besides the update is coming soon so be patient/

Jeffery

Meh, sending out a yearly unit to ruin the current strategy of the game barely qualifies as an update to be patient for.
Besides, Seeds already proved his incompetence. There is no need to send him anything.

Not all of us waste there time trying to make the game something it isn't, and as you and I both know, the Ambusher was meant for "1 SCOUT!" not 2, if Bills wants to be smart, he'd have put in a restriction for using it, example being u can use 2 scouts but no ambusher, or 1 scout and the ambusher, besides if you can't seem to be appreciative or learn to adapt to the game and instead bitch about every new unit that doesn't live up to your or anyone elses satisfaction, quit. Either way, it won't make much difference, if you want incompetence, look at Bills, I haven't seen him think of anything productive, who has just instead harassed Seed every chance he gets.

Yeah, setting the time to local like that has really harmed TAO....

Jeffery is just trying to blow off Seed's decisions on TAO because he doesn't believe in how he runs it.

Or you could just have it say how long AGO they were online, and only resorting to hours if it's within a week or something. Maybe dates would be okay, because those are pretty clear despite time zones. For example:

/stat warcow
*** <The Elite>Warcow's Stats: 1784 (offline) ***
Warcow was last on: 8 hours 25 minutes ago.

/stat cavour
*** <Bushido Gaiden>Cavour's Stats: 1590 (offline) ***
Cavour was last on: October 5, 2005.

/stat Speaker 4 the dead
*** <Sage Warriors?>Speaker 4 the dead's Stats: 1455 (online) ***

/stat Bills
*** Bills is Unrated ***
Bills was last on: October 16, 2003.

Maybe Superman can update this for us.

Or Bills can come back from the dead to make this happen.
