Has anyone heard of this book? It's supposed to be an awesome read, and I think there's a movie about it. I'll read it when I get around to it, but has anyone here already read it? Just interested on what readers think of it...

You're making a thread about a book you didn't read yet?

...

Meh, name rings a bell.

I saw the movie about a year ago, japanese with english subtitles...
Phew, what can i say, weird Japanese :)

Don't expect something intellectual, it is a very violent flick.
But pretty entertaining, so if the book is supposed to be as thrilling as the movie, go read it ...
if you're still in "school", don't! :D

No, that is literally what this movie is. A class ALL KILLING EACH OTHER IN THE NAME OF SURVIVAL!

The movie takes place in Japan. As a retaliation to the decaying state of respect that young people have for adults the government passes a law so that once a year one class of children is chosen and taken to a deserted island where they participate in Battle Royale to attempt to scare the youth back into discipline. The 40 students have 3 days to run around the island and kill each other off until only one comes out alive.

If you're used to the Japanese genre it's an intense, heart-wrenching epic, otherwise it's freaking hilarious to watch. I thoroughly enjoyed it for the relatively realistic violence and because of its pure absurdity.

I don't know how much it would be worth to read the book though, sounds iffy.

The second one at least tries to lay down a better foundation for itself.
