I think it would be good if we got a calender to organize all the tournies that are being made. I think people are coming in with new ideas all the time and there are a lot of tournies overlapping each other or not getting the reconition they should because people are too busy with other tournies that are going on. There are also people waiting to start a tourny only to have others jump in and start one before they get there chance. If we had a sheduale we could have people take up different days Example:the 8 unit tourny would be penciled in for this weekend on saturday. That way someone looking for a tourny to be in would know by looking at the calender there was an upcoming tourny to join. Or someone looking to make a tourny would realize that they would need to wait to start there tourny untill next week because there are too many tournies going on at the moment. I think this would help a lot and would make it so people looking to run a tourny would be able to get the maximum out of there tournies instead of trying to run tournies combating with other ones and not getting the kind of turnout they need to be successful.

I didn't read all of it. (I know it isn't that much), but just from what I see. It is a good idea. I think the calender is a good idea! :)

You guys DO know you could put Tournaments onto the Calender that is built into the forums, right?

Yep, I just don't know how that calendar works. :)

Or instead you could ask a Mod to sticky a note on the forums so as you can clearly see when the times are.

I am fully aware of this. But people when looking for a tourny arn't usually going to use this. I was thinking more along the lines of a calender stickied in the tourny section of the forums. Then have tournies approved by mods and have them put them on the tourny calender or somthing along those lines. Then when someone is like hey i wonder if there any tournies coming up next weekend they can just go and look without searching and reading through all the threads. Or people wanting to make new tournies will realize that there are too many going on and decide not to make theres until later..etc.

it might be easier to just push and encourage ppl to just use the calendar function when looking to find a tourny to join than to implement a new feature.

If ppl start listing their tournies, then others can start checking them out, and we get a trend going.

If you use the calendar, any tourney creator can list their tournament times (years in advance of needed) with no need to consult calendars to make sure the dates are right. You wouldn;t need to go find the mod, or another mod, to add/edit the tournament in. You wouldn't need a mod to delete old ones when they were over.

It would actually be EASIER to just use the calendar, and give better representation of current tournaments. In fact, you could list the duration of signups, and stop people asking how long signups are for new ones.

I really agree with Allstar, something needs to be done. I have been patiently waiting for Mith's and Duo's tourneys to end so that I could host mine. (Also keeping in mind the dates for Rev team) Two new (very crappy) tournaments "jumped" the line on me. As my tournament requires will require participation of an eight entire clans, it's becoming increasingly difficult with all of this ensuing chaos. Oy

Maybe I should make my TAO calendar idea into this, or something.

I like the idea, and wheber someone asks me if they should do a tournament I tell them to wait with it until the current majour ones are over.

I just really think we could use something like this in the tourny section. People looking to make tournies or join tournies arn't really inclined to view the calender we have in the forums already. If no mod would be willing to do a calender I would run it if I got the ok from a mod, and could get it stickied in the tourny forums. All I would need is someone to come up with a good format for a calender...

So, someone would be inclined to click a thread link in one forum, but not a calendar link that is on EVERY forum page?

Basically, you're saying people are lazy, but in the end are actually too stupid to use a fully finctional calendar.

In all honesty I don't like the calender we have. It can be acessed by anyone and has or can have a lot of spam on it. I would like a calender for tournies only. Not HEY ITS MY BIRTHDY!!#$@# and then a tourny underneath. Why do you try to read into things so much and try and put words in my mouth. I'm not calling people lazy or stupid...you are. All I'm doing is trying to add a suggestion that will help to organize a part of our forum that is tottaly out of wack. If you spent anytime in tournies you would realize this. I really don't see how this concerns you anyway. Do you ever play in tournies? Basically your just bashing an idea that wouldn't mean shit to you anyway. We need better organization of times for tournies so people can wait there turn and not butt in when someone else has been waiting politely. Ask iceman for example he is having a tough time because it's hard to run a tourny when you have to wait for 3 tournies to finish and 3 other tournies try and start before you get a chance. If we had a tourny calender then people could pick dates that weren't conflicting with others and people when in the tourny section would be able to find a tourny going on simply by clicking the calender and not having to read through all the threads.

Name ONE long term project done on the TAO forums that was to be maintained by one person that is still going.
Name one somewhat long term project.

What you are talking about simply has NEVER worked on the TAO forums.

Thargors clan rating system??

If a mod couldn't run it I could, I'm on enough that it would work. And if I go absent for a while I'm sure someone could start doing it for me.

3 different people who worked on clan rankings have already quit, and the current one is MIA for days.

That is the best example, and even it is not a very good one.

Banners Revelation.

And a calendar would be even easier to implement.

Sounds good... New calendar has been added. So, if somebody wants to run a tourney he should add his tourney to this calendar. We probably need some sticky thread in the tournaments forum explaining this.

Link to this calendar: http://tacticsarena.com/forum/calendar.php?c=3 , or just select "Tournaments" from the drop down list at the bottom of the Calendar section.

*EDIT* Forum allows to add custom fields to the event, so we can make a pretty good organized list. I added the "Game Server" field. What else do you think can be added?

So much for the "if you suggest it, it won't happen" myth.
