View Full Version : Killing your own unit in order to win?

Hi, this may be common or something but I had never seen it and I thought it was sweet. This was my position in the endgame. My Witch had 10 health, my scout and chanty were ready to go, and his knight had 1 turn to wait. It was my turn.
http://img469.imageshack.us/img469/4294/suicide4fe.th.png (http://img469.imageshack.us/my.php?image=suicide4fe.png)
At this point I shot my own witch with my scout, and advanced upwards. His knight had to wait, so he just moved his cleric, and then I advanced my enchantress up 1 to freeze all 3 of his units (and unfreeze my cleric). He then surrendered.
Have never seen a situation where you actually had to kill your own unit in order to win the game immediately.

It isnt really that creative, because i do it sometimes (legends) and it can save you in a tight spot later on in that game.

Nice dude, that's some clever thinking
yeh, good job dabooz, thats thinkin on ur feet. many times a weird strat can really give u an advantage.
an example, in my game against wayf he thought he was about to win, but i used my furgy in a way thats very unusual that completely turned the tides in my direction(actually that one move let me get wayyyy ahaid of him)
people can only play against what they know will happen, if u have a trick up your sleave then they wont play to counter it.

good thread and yes I have done this before as well. Sacraficing units for the ultimate goal of winning the game is sometimes a good strategy.

I agree. That's a very creative strategy (at least I wouldn't have thought of it, maybe that's why I suck). Good job. Rep for you.

All the time do I sacrifice my dmw and assn for a chanty and scout in a few moves time. I end up using my own dmw to kill the assn and scout usually, and finish it off with a freeze, and a dmw shot to waste some time.
Anyway, good job with the quick thinking. Glad you won.

:) thanks guys.
Noda, interesting what you said about making a weird/unexpected move. When they were trying to make a computer that could beat a human (pre deep blue) in chess, they had one play Bobby Fisher. Fisher made a theoretically horrible move, but he knew what would happen. The computer only did not know what to do since that move was not "on the radar" and ended up screwing up royally allowing Fisher to win.

Um...are all you people missing something here?
He didn't need to kill his own witch to win. All he had to do was move the scout towards the enemy cleric.
So, he moves scout away, whatever. Other players passes / moves cleric. On his turn, he can just move the chanty. Once she breaks focus by moving, the witch is no longer paralyzed and will step aside for the chanty to move into the spot right next to her. From that spot, both enemy knights and the assassin will be paralyzed, without having to kill your own unit.
But, a win is a win, even if you do betray your own troops to get it.
-Edit- I AM INCORRECT!

You cant go through any paralyzed unit, it doesnt let you move past one even if it will become unparalyzed when you move the Chanty. I see you didnt get your 1800 stats using a chanty...

How about that, a JW n00b is actually right about something.
But yes, I admit I was incorrect in my earlier post. Not sure what I was thinking.

I was wondering why you shot the witch, but then I looked again, good job, you could have done what frylock said, or what you did, keep it up.
BTW, Was your witch able to move?

i sometimes sacraifce my units too so i can get to the enemy quicker but sometimes thay move that i use dosent kill the person i sacrafice so i use my celric and get them back to normal or just use the sacrificed unit for the next move and hope for the best
i sometimes sacrafice my own units inorder to force the opponent into a false sence of comfort...but it might have more to do with us both being the same color hehe(supid cleric...ur so suppose to block when ur own scout attacks u)

I've never had to kill a unit like you showed but I have shot a shrub so I could move a frosty to paralyze a unit to win the game in some turtle games. Similar concept to your game, nice win.
