All,
Twice tonight as I was beating someone they moved their assassin in next to two of my pieces, and blew themselves up causing 99 damage points against my two pieces? I think they are cheating? Is this normal, because I just started playing, but it kinda pissed me off. I mean I finally learn the game well enough to be winning, and then cheaters pulls crap like this.
And what is the deal with lossing and then leaving the game, before it is finished? Does their standing not get effected if they drop out vs surrender?
How common is cheating? I am not going to get a gold account, if I have to pay money just to be frustrated by cheaters.

no this is not cheating, that was known as the assassin bomb which can happen when the assassin is below 5 HP. To activate it you do the exact same thing as the muddies second attack, which would be to go into attack mode and click and hold onto the assassin for 2-3 seconds and let go and she should explode. And next time please do a search for a thread like this before posting since it will reduce spam...

Who was it you were playing? Do you remember their names? I would report them to admin for that...

Bullseye is right, this is not cheating, rather it is a hidden attack that is allowed for everyone who knows how to use it. When your Assassin has 1 through 4 HP (which can be acquired by combinations such as two Assassin/Scout power hits, one Pyromancer and one Dark Magic Witch hit, a Lightning Ward and Knight hit with heal, et cetera), click and hold for two seconds and she will explode, dealing 99 damage to any unit within her normal attack pattern (all panels adjacent to her panel).
There are many threads involving the Assassin Bomb, one of which can be found here:
http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=19618&highlight=Assassin+Bomb+Damage
A post in that thread by myself explains how the Assassin Bomb and Mud Quake are triggered, the restrictions, and what exactly they do.
Furthermore, you can find a complete list of all the combinations that can be used to bring your Assassin below 5 HP, graciously made by The Sniper, here:
http://home.comcast.net/~osis/TAOInfo/HomeAssassinBombChart.html
The site involves a complete list of damage combinations, gold and grey, to trigger the Assassin Bomb; it also includes on the main page a paragraph as to how the Assassin Bomb is triggered.
Hope this helps,

Darnit, LT, you ruined my fun.

They really need to mention it on the main site. You're not alone, at least one person asks about it per month.

Leaving the game before it's finished counts as a loss.... they're just so pissed that they lost that they don't want to stay around and watch the end ;)

That's bad sportsmanship! You should hang around and try to cyber with them until the end.

it should be arule that you cannot surrender. everybody should have to stay and fight to the end. a battle is not won by the number of warriors, but how you use your units and the terrain, and your oppinets foolish mistakes to your advantage. ;)

and closing the TAO window will cause your head to explode?
and this advocate of tactical warfare as opposed to simply number of units turned into a great CAUer
