Ok, I know I am going to draw a bunch of "it's fine, learn to play" type of responses, but it just seems odd that most gold setups always use the same models. They should be different, not better. We should see most units in roughly equal amounts if they are truly balanced. But rare is the gold that doesn't run with the Dragon Tyrant and the Mud Golem. Between these two models, why should we vary our unit build too much? They are just clearly must-takes.

I guess all I am saying is, game designers, please contemplate the possible causes of 90% of all gold armies taking these units.

There are 18 units in the game. You are allowed to use 10 on the field.

Of course some will be more popular than others in the gold formations, and as such, be used more (almost to the point of most of the time).

There will never be enough units on TAO that every formation will be completely different.

like a grey with no knights, cleric or scout....its just a bad idea to leave any of them out.

I actually got to 1500 without using a DT. I still use one form that doesn't involve a DT. Even so, I agree that a lot of gold forms look alike.

Lack of new units generally prevents creation of new formations.
There is simply not THAT many ways to put your units in different styles.

I find its better to keep a running tally of what when he disagrees vs agrees. I think I'm about 5 - 0 for disagreements.

There are LOTS of forms without DTs among good players.

Most players use at least one scout, a mud, and a knight or two. Beyond that, you see a whole lot of different unit use. In these days of set-dependent rushes, the problem isn't that there aren't enough set models, but that there are too many, each working best only against a few others--amongst equal players the game is often determined by a rock-paper-scissors-esque set selection.

Good old rock... Nothing beats rock.

I never use a DT, but sometimes I wish I did.

Yeah, I guess when they offer up more creature types this will change. I prersonally hope they don't give them all out either just for being gold. Fighting over a drop is exciting.

Until your stone gets hit by a mud, then a scout, then the mud again, then the DSM, and your cleric's dead, your scouts are at 2 each, your mud golem and wisp are both wisped themselves, and your Frostie is boxed in by knights

Have any of you ever seen a gold using 4 assassins, 1 beast rider, 2 knights, 2 scouts, and one cleric?

Ive played him before, and lost because he had 10 blocks, all on the side, with his knight and scout at the end of the game. I dont remember his name so I was hoping one of you could tell me if you know.

Sorry if this isnt exactly what this thread was about, but since its about setups, and I was here at the time i thought of this, I thought I'd post it here.
