Well, for all of us, Flu season is coming up.
I am curious as to how many of you are already sick, and what you do when you are.

I am getting sick. I'd like to sleep, but with a broken wrist, it's hard as heck.
I also try to drink tons if fluids, like OJ, Water, etc... but it doesn't seem to help much without the sleep.
Any reccomendations?

I <3 Flu season.

I love being sick. Because my life is so busy most of the time. So getting sick is like a vacation for me. I adore (adore?) it.

Being sick is a good vacation at times...
I just hate the side effects of that vacation.

Flu season is overrated. Flu shots are just silly. Shots against the flu? If it was Spanish flu or something, I might understand, but often enough, the shot has more negative effects than the flu itself.

I do have a runny nose though, but that's my fault for walking home (a kilometre or two) without a coat.

Being sick at my house is good, cause my mom and dad are both at work all day so I'd have to house to myself till 3:30 pm.

But of course... I rarely get sick. And it's not like I don't try. I walked home about two miles in the rain without an umbrella or anything. Still fine.

i probably wouldn't get one if the following wasn't true:

1. free
2. gets me out of work for an hour

How random?

Anywho, I am lucky if I get flu 'cos I never get it, I want it so much so I can stay off school. My mom currently has it though so it may get spread round.

Exactly how I feel.
If you read my banner you could see why I like getting sick at times:p
But the side effects too are quite annoying.

It's that time again!

Everyone be sure to go get a flu shot! Make sure to tell your medical care provider about any and all allergies you have, ESPECIALLY if you have egg or latex allergies.

The fact is, no one likes the flu, and even if you are a young healthy individual and don't think it would affect you too badly, it's even worse when you pass it on to mom, dad, or the grandparents.

For those of you who hate needles: me too. I just got mine - was clenching my teeth and had my eyes closed. And then they told me it was done. I ALWAYS feel the needle, and this time I didn't. Believe it or not, needle technology is getting better and better - it's quick and I didn't feel ANYTHING!

So be health-conscious this flu season and try to get some immunization! You can even get it for free!

Don't you mean cold season? There is a big difference between the flu and a cold. Trust me, having the flu is anothing but vacation!

I sometimes don't mind having colds though.

I disagree with getting the flu shot...I know several people who never had the flu until they got the shot!

That's true, it happens, especially with health care providers who don't know what they are doing. ;)

But really, today's flu shot contains inactivated (completely dead) viruses. Symptoms include soreness and swelling at the site of injection, as well as low fever and mild aches (at worst).

The nasal spray flu vaccine contains *weakened* viruses, which *can* cause a few symptoms more closely associated with influenza.

However there's also a small percentage of people who won't be immunized from the shot. Think of it this way: say their body just can't figure out how to beat the dead virus that year. Well, when they get the real thing, they aren't gonna be doin too well...

My roomate claims that after she got her first flu shot at age 24 she started to smell when she sweats during the winter, and never before then. There are all kindsa funny reasons people don't like getting the shot. My own rule of thumb is not to get it unless you've gotten the flu in the past (let the lucky streak ride). :wink2:

Umm.. how is getting a cold/flu (two totally different and horrible things) getting a vacation from life? Nothing worse than some random kid sneezing on you. :p

A cold ain't so bad. I've got one right now, it's a bit slimy and my head hurts, but it's not so bad.

Influenza is bad, but I've never gotten it before and since my grandparents are all flu-shotted up I don't see much point in getting one.

Lucky you! You can go around and sleep with every gutter slut on the block, and not worry about STDs. What a blessing.

Around March last year I got some really, really rare type of flu that they only get a few hundred cases of in the world each year. It was so weird. I went to bed Friday night, then woke up around 2:30 AM in the hospital on Monday morning with an IV in my arm, and tubes up my nose. I felt perfectly fine, then in what seemed like the blink of an eye I was in the hospital on all sorts of support systems.

Apparently I went to bed, and later that night my parents found me in complete vertigo and delerious, crawling through the hall to the bathroom covered in blood. My body evacuated just about all the fluids in my stomach and digestive system to the point that I was dry heaving so hard it brought up blood. So they took me to the hospital, and I went unconcsious for days.

you all lose, I win.Same with me. I have never gotten a flu shot, or any type of shot for that matter. I don't believe I have ever been sick. And if I have been, I don't remember. I have thrown up a few times, but that's it.

Get to the part where you start bleeding from your eyes...

btw, for those of you who are young and healthy and don't need it: great! For those of you in that last category that are living with elderly, pregnant, or infantile people (no, not talkin bout dirka), try to look into a flu shot, if only for them. :)
