Well, there has been all sorts of sport threads. There's been a football (soccer) thread, a hockey thread ... but no rugby. Hence the creation of this thread.
Now, being English, I'm not entirely sure of any pro teams or leagues in America, but over here, we have the Guinness Premiership, looking good as ever.
So, if you're English, care to talk about this season's happenings? Or if you're American, mind filling us English in on the rugby participation in your country?
Right now, all I can say is ... GO SARACENS! Our forwards are dominating!

I am a fellow Englishman Bullet, I like rugby as a game and Johnny Wilkinson is an amazing kicker, hence he won us the world cup in rugby didn't he. But yeah, I don't follow rugby, I like football more than rugby.

Yeah, Jonny Wilkinson did indeed win us the world cup. But since then, he's been plagued with injuries and his kicking has gone downhill. I, personally, think that he was at his peak in the world cup, and that he will never be as good as he was.
It's a shame you don't follow it. I like rugby because I believe it takes more skill, it's faster and more brutal than football.

All I can say is that the Lamont brothers will lead Scotland to victory in the 6 Nations next year.
May be slightly biased as their cousin was my flatmate in last year.

Hehe. You've got some obstacles to get around.
Scotland's autumn internationals:
Loss to Argentina. (can't remember score)
Win against Samoa. (18-11)
If your lot can get New Zealand, they will be considered heroes of the century.

I guess you expect Sean and Rory Lamont to do that as well. :p

Bullet I made and sent you a banner if you want to use it, ok.
Yes Johnny Wilkinson has played at his best and I agree he will never get up to that standard again.
I wonder if we could win the 6 nations. Who won it last time round?

I think we have quite a good chance this year for the Six Nations. Wales won the Grand Slam last time, but, judging by recent performances, won't do so well this time.
By the way, cheers for the banner, Xe.

All I know is that Sean is a beast. If you ever see the man up close, he is scary. Had a night out with him and his cousin (my flatmate). My advice is this, never have a night of Sambuca shots with nutter scottish ruggers, it will end in pain, or arrests, or both.

The closest I have come to seeing him was on the 5th November, when I went to see Saracens play Northampton (his clubside). He is pretty big for a winger.

Very true, but if you watch his play closely you'll notice that he plays winger in a slighty unorthodox way. I have never seen him dodge a tackle, he always just powers over everyone. He is more of a driving winger than a speed man, sort of like a running back in American Football when they are near the goalline. You'll also notice him cheat in a little from the sidelines, I think it's cause the crazy bastard wants to get hit so he can cause some pain. In any event, he is not a foot-man, but instead a bulldozer.

Well, large and fast is a good combo. Once you get a head for speed and have a lot of momentum, it is hard to bring players like him down.

Fair enough.
Have you ever had a chance to see a good 7s tourney?
I got to go to the Melrose 7s this year, it was wicked. I absolutely love the Borders in spring. My girlfriend's dad grew up there so they have a place just overlooking the pitch. It was absolutely wild, 'Rose made it all the way to the finals. In any event, I sometimes think I like 7s better than Union.

True, 7s can be more exciting. That's probably mainly because there is only 7 players, leaving space all over the pitch. You really get to see some class evading skills.

Very true, and in my experience, the crowd is always a bit more fun cause people tend to get a bit more pissed when at a tourney all day.
Sort of why test matches are actually halfway fun.;)
But that is a whole new thread.

Seems pretty silly to go to a 7s tournament and only watch one game. I mean, they're only 20 minutes long. If they were the regular 80 minutes, the players would kill themselves. Nothing wrong with staying for the whole tournament.

Tourneys go all day, morning to lights on. By the time the sun sets, the crowd is so liquored up that chants become random loud noise. :p
Lots of fun.

Ha. It's funny when people drink at games. Some find it hard to stay in their seat after a few pints. Or to keep there clothes on. :p
