View Full Version : Clerics, another use?

I have found that often there is another very useful and critical use for my cleric(s) besides healing; blocking. In the endgame I sometimes have no attackers, or no attackers nearby, and just have my chanty, cleric, and wards, or maybe both clerics. Say my bward got killed or frozen out of necessity while i freeze one of his knights. His other knight is within 3 spaces and I have 2 turns left to recover. My chanty is dead barring one thing, a block by my cleric. I can move my cleric in front of my chanty, and now she has a 1 turn wait. He can't reach her and shes safe. Amusingly, this move will also protect my cleric since if he hits it the chanty will take his knight down.
Another highly amusing incident involving clerics blocking was when my opponent had a knight and lward vs my 2 clerics, chanty, and lward. I'm pretty sure he could have forced a tie, and i was chasing him around. He made a mistake of running into my area of the field, and something interesting happened. I setup a "cleric wall" to block off one way of running away. It was diagonal and went lward/cleric/cleric/corner. Then my chanty "flanked" his knight and it was trapped. We've hall heard of knight walls but cleric walls are pretty rare.
Anyways, just posted this strategy because I have never seen it written about before. Hope it helps :)

my clerics often serve as chanty guards while the girl is recovering ^.^ it usualy happens only in the end game though =P

I also use my cleric as a wall in some gold games on Legends. It helps that my cleric is stoned and that I have a furgon, but I often let a knight take a free swipe at the cleric, then move it out of harm's way and replace it with a knight, blocking the only entry point on my flank. This also only happens in the endgame though.

Another use for the cleric, is as the title implies, a distraction. If you play a bomb or a rush, you can put a cleric in a corner isolated.
Golds often overestimate the utility of the cleric and will waste turns trying to kill it, hopefully with their wisp which could be otherwise used to devestate your attacking units.
While your helpless cleric is attacked you are left free to take the initiative in the attack against his own. If they're using an ambusher, lightning ward, furgon or frost, they will be at a severe disadvantage if you trade clerics.
Cleric: not the most important piece on the board? Shocking! =P.

I have too found this to be useful, but any unti can really can be used to direct the traffic of others. If you get good enough at it, you can move thier units where you want them to put them without them knowing they are playing for you.

good stratagy, I also often use my cleric as wall to block for my other more crucial units in end game. Another thing I'll also do in end game is set my cleric in a vulnerable position where the enemy's knight will go in wrecklessly to kill it. Again that is only useful in end game and if the knight was already somewhat damaged.
