View Full Version : New weapon in the mods arsenal!

Ok, in case a few people missed it, the latest update included several things. one of them was the ability for Mods to boot spammers and such from the server.

So i asked for a test of the ability.

Well, it works beautifully. And not only is it a boot from the server, or even a ban on the name. It's an IP ban for the person booted!

I am assuming (and hoping) it is only a temp ban.

Moral of the story, don't piss off the mods anymore. They CAN dump your spamming ass.

BTW- Any certain favorite admin want to unban me?

This is a really great ability.

So if someone's spamming, and I'm on, just IM me.

I'm sure I'll eventually get quite annoyed with this. But for now, its cool. :)

Can you boot someone while they're in game?

Interesting question. I suspect so, but I haven't tried it yet. If so, this could be a useful tool against intentional jumpers in a tournament setting.

Would be funny if they have the power to IP ban in game without having the power to ban. I'd also be curious to see if a mod can ban another mod, or themselves.

I'd test that for you, but it will have to be tomorrow. ;)

Hey! This new command doesn't work at all. I knew it was too good to be true.

i'm quite confident that all our mods know how to use their new abilities. I would just move for more lobby presence, especially since we have a recent loss :(

Can the administrators/moderators check for the content of what is being said in the lobby? Will this cut down the amount of highly offensive attacks/ignorance?

I was playing my lil brother yesterday, trying to give him 'the feel' for the game. Turns out he's decently good (still newbish, but good).

That's besides the point though. I was in the process of handing him his butt when he started talking smack, I forget what he and I were saying but he started spamming in-game. After about two seconds of it, he got booted and could'nt login.

Is this one of the new features? If so, I havent heard about it yet, or is that the same thing Jeff was reffering to?

Now we just need to arrange it so that there is a mod online and IMable at every point in the day. :)

AWESOME.

I request the mods to visit GL on a regular basis, which seems to be a haven of spammers of cyberers.

That is real nice. But the thing is, we already have this thing that boots them anyways if they spam too much. Or did they take that off?

This is a new feature yes, if you spam too much you get booted with a 2 hour ban.

I'm surprised Seed gave out that kind of power, after the Kuban incident back in 03 he told me (yes the real Seed) he was never making Mod's have powers like that in TAO, I guess Bills finally embeded enough cash into his pocket to make him say otherwise.

Ok. Update on the new weapon. Upon further testing, the following things have been proven.

A Mod can kick someone while they are in a game.
Whoever is kicked loses stats as if they DC'ed.
Whoever remains in the game receives stats as if it was a win.
If you have multiple accounts on the server at the time of the kick, only the one account is actively DC'ed. However, the IP ban is set. So if you disconnect the remaining account(s) from the server, you will be unable to reconnect.

FURTHER TEST RESULTS!

A mod is unable to kickban someone whois not currently online.

THAT IS ALL AT THIS TIME.

RECAP-
Mods can kick any person online, whether in game or out. If a person is in game, they lose stats, and opponent gains stats. All kickbans result in temporary IP ban. Temp bans do not grow in length after repeated bans. Mods can not kickban anyone who is not currently online.

I hurried over to this thread after I felt a disturbance in the force. Luckily, the force was just having indigestion from burrito night at the Jedi enclave.

Good news, this is. Bring balance to the game, surely it must.

Nice one Sergyi, now the mods need just to be more active, like it is really hard to see a mod on gl (since aro stopped be so active( regularly, mods go just to revelation, now you gotta job on others servers, thugs.
