The swear filter is not a bad thing. I just do not agree with the punishment. Disconnecting someone and giving them a loss for saying the word "gay" is too harsh. All you need to do is put asterisks in the place of the swear. I have already lost about 4 games because of this, and im sure im not the only one.
Please consider revising this feature.

Been discussed a lot and for quite some time. It won't be changed, just watch your language in game and in lobby.

I don't mind the cus blocker, but there is one suggestion that I have. When I send words with a cus word in them, I get booted. I'm getting sick of those horrible losses. The admins should work on things like that.

It should boot people for swearing.
You have no need to swear or say the banned words.

It should be harsh. Because if you can't figure it out time after time, you deserve to get booted.

This isn't going to be changed.
Get used to it.

Then stop telling people that you are gay.
Most people don't care.

What's that guy's name from Meet the Parents... the character...

Gaylord Focker? booted...

I feel that people should be proud of what they are... look at the Gay Pride Parade. booted...

I'm comfortable with my sexuality... booted...

the only one I've been kicked for is the last one... sex... is not a bad word... sexuality... is not an "unapropriate" word...

the games tend to last a while... and conversations can be started... mature people talk about all sorts of things... perhaps the persecution of the jews... and Hitler... booted...

I say... there should be a way to bypass the filter if both players agree... like... a button that both players press... and they can say whatever...

that way... you could discuss freely and etc.

the filter would be on when the players enter a game... and always on in the lobby. but the players could agree to turn the filter off and talk as they normally would...

just a suggestion.

edit-

it gets old when you don't know what words you can and cannot say...

I'll be damned if I get kicked for saying "cheese"

People really do need to adjust to the filter... If you get booted once for saying it then why say it again? If you can't keep your chat language to a level that's suitable for the game then stop chatting and complaining.

I agree... I've been watching what I say a lot...

True, but there are always certain exceptions.

What about losses where you're told by someone that they're going to beat you...what would anyone naturally say?

Of course, I said "Don't be so cocky" (naturally, it wasn't in my mind that the swear filter would boot me for a bad word that truely wasn't...) ...Booted...filter loss #1

...and then there's the ever-present 'bad word in names' filter...I did a stats search on a member that I'd been semi-chummy with during battles, his name; "@$$ Kickah"; this was after "ass" was removed from the filter...yet I still take a loss for the word "@$$"...Booted...filter loss #2

Losses don't bother me, but losses like that annoy me, and I'm sure many other people, to the point of frustration. I'm quite happy playing for my TAO gold account every month, but it'd be nice to be informed a little more as far as which words can and cannot be said (excluding scenario #1...I realise that the derivative of that word needs to be blocked...). If "ass" is no longer censored, why must "@$$" be?

It's not so much people's language that's the problem, it's the fact that the swear filter doesn't have some form of grammar check or at the very least, an option that turns it off when "/stat" is used...

Well...good concept, just needs a bit more fine tuning IMO...

yes, but thats what always comes with new filters. it takes time to refine them. it will get better of time. maybe if some of the admin started an official filter thread were we can post trick people are using to get around it and such like that.

An important point to make here is that this game is new. The filter is a new addition. There is a lot of negative reception to it, but also a lot of positive views. Maybe there needs to be a forum specifically devoted to "complaints" or at least ideas concerning the general administration the game and all that is included in it's community, but that's a bit much to ask for a game that wasn't completely prepared for the popularity it recieved after only one day of being online. Not to mention that they've already had to change server hosts because of issues with players being dropped, etc... Right now there are a lot more major issues to be dealt with than ones that fall into the "convenience factor" for the general player population. It -is- in your control to avoid the very annoying consequences of forgetting about the filter from time to time. But then, the only people this really hurts right now are gold members who value their current rating statistics more than their ability to overcome a few losses due to negligance... well and the TAO staff themselves, who certainly want to make every grey member as satisfied as reasonably possible in the hopes you will support the effort by upgrading when you can find the means, money, or whatever it is that makes you stay grey now (they are also very much involved with making it even more 'beneficial' to own a gold account so that, eventually, playing this for free will only be a nice way to pass time in the extra space a very successive game has to give to those that don't want to experience the whole game).

So before I cross threads and forums too much more, let me just say that this is something I'm sure TAO will look at when it has the time and resources. They can't make this the best thing on the net in just a few months when only a small fraction of the players aren't willing to pay to speed up the process. Give this game another month and I think discussions like this will last less than a day or two, when TAO has made the game more than worthy of 5 measely bucks a month and can afford to have someone planted solely on issues along these lines...

Yeah, I used the term pussycat and it cost me a game! I was refering to my own Dragon Tyrant, who will now be known as Mr. Fluffy. What we really need is a filter for the idiots who repeat a word or phrase (like "poop") over and over, making it tough to chat.

A spam filter?
Yes, that's desperately needed.
And I'm sure hoping it's on the way.
