View Full Version : Significance of the name "Banff"

Banff was the name of a highly successful, R.A.F. (Royal Air Force) division in World War II (1943-1945). It was a multi-national, and highly risky division to fly with. Over 80 pilots died in operations. Their job was to fly and keep the Germans from acquiring iron ore resources in the area, which if the Germans had gotten hold of, would have made the war much more difficult for the Allies. Just a bit of history, I didn't go purposely looking for this information, I found it by accident for a school project. I needed history on Scotland, and this came up, and I just couldn't resist checking out the namesake of the greatest server in TOA : D! If the creators didn't know this, then that is an incredible coincidence.

I like Canada. I was born there. And probably. It's a town name in Great Britain, and it's a big influence on Canadian culture.

i always just assumed it was where the server was.... like the great lakes being the location of the other server.

Banff is a city in Alberta, and like so many other cities in canada, i really wouldn't be surprised to find that it was named after a british city.

You're probably right but I just noticed it while doing research and thought some people might find it interesting. That does bring up the nice question of where exactly Armageddon is ... :D

I agree completely. Canada is the best place ever. With very few exception, all the good people live in Canada. I lived there until I was six, then my mom got married and I was forced to move to New York. Huh, so sad. : / ...

Thats just low. Of not for Canada, where would all the underage drinkers go besides a 20 hour road trip to Mexico where the drinking age is 6? Canada is only 18. It's wonderful :)
