is it possible to hack or cheat iin this game?

Nope,
What you see is what you get...no way to cheat or get new characters (ok, so you can upgrade to Gold for new characters); and whatever you do, don't fall for the "F5" trick, or the "ctrl + w" trick...

Depends on how you define "cheat". There are many ways to abuse the system. For example, you can create a grey account and keep surrendering to yourself and thus boost your record to ridiculous heights (this may require two computers). Also, you can trick your opponent into violating the swear filter ("Hey, I forget, what's the name of that German leader in World War II?" (saying "Hitler" results in a kick)).
But hacking into it to give yourself more units, mess with the random number generator, etc.? Not to my knowledge.

Note to self: "Buy a second computer" - "No wait, ignore the previous note, new note to self: 'Ask people about Hitler'"

there are ways to have more than one TAO client open on one computer... but I will not reveal these methods as to preserve the "record stability"
and... give a hacker enough time... and he could hack the servers and do whatever he wanted... also... I believe that there are probably ways to have a program running in the backround... that sniffs packets and etc. that could stop damage from being dealt to your units... or could alter the random generator results... or something... not sure on this, however...

I doubt a packet-sniffer would work. All the calculations are probably done server-side. Packet sniffers can work in games like Warcraft, where the server sends information about the whole map but your client hides the part you can't see due to Fog of War, but in this game, there isn't anything hidden by the client, I don't think. But that's assuming they've programmed it to be hacker-resistant; maybe they have the stuff done client-side, in which case someone might be able to spoof some packets... but it'd be hard.

Yeah... I'm thinking it's all done server side... most likely.

I ask again, why would anybody want to cheat?

Why would you want to cheat? There's nothing really to gain except drops. It's not like you get special units for getting a high ranking. They will catch you and maybe ban you if you do have two computers. Unless of course you are on two different internet connections. It's not that hard to see two people playing one another from the same IP. Don't want to get yourself banned do ya? ;)

<sarchasm>I dunno, but I'd love to get my hands on that win 100% of the time cheat...</sarchasm>
...actually, I think most people that ask for cheats just don't want to take the time out to learn the basics of the game, so they lose and lose and lose, so they as for a way to cheat...hence the masses of cheat-askers...
That's my theory at least,

Technically you can hack anything. But it would probably take a while, and like many others said who would want to cheat anyway.

I meant, what's the purpose of cheating?
In regular games, you're not playing for money. And there doesn't seem to be any TAO groupies waiting around.
Hopefully there will be someday. But not today. :)
We're playing for the fun of playing a game. Matching wits with an opponent, displaying your skill. If the person is cheating, there doesn't seem to be anything to gain. The entire purpose of the game is bypassed.
You punk. :)

I almost lost a game like that. My knight vs. his knight and dunno wut happend but my knight just wouldnt block at all. He even took one right in the chest without blocking. All in a row too.

anything can be hacked with time, true, but think u would have to hack their servers and they would probably kno that same day that u had changed ur account around, ur IP addy would be banned and u have gained absolutely nothing... whats the point?
besides cheating is... just no fun, its a fun-sucker (until u beat a single player game, then its amusing to see what uber units were coded in ;) )

To get better so that when groupies do find their way here, you'll be good enough to flock to. :)

I'd just like to point out that it would be impossible to hack this game, ie to win automatically, always block, etc.
What you could do, would be if you could hack into the database. You could edit your record, whether you had a gold account, and how many units you had. It's impossible to hack the game, since its just flash with a ton o' actionscript (Flash programming language)

anything can be hacked if someone wanted more units THAT BAD they COULD hack into the game and get more units but its pointless becaus ethey would just be reported and get an IP ban lol so yea... there are tricks to get free wins but i wont say em... i can be bribed tho :p ;)
