View Full Version : Has TAO become an old married couple?

I'm not sure about you guys but my girlfriend likes when I surprise her with stuff. I was talking with an old friend and we were talking about the game. It used to be that when you were in a slump in one style of game then you just started playing turtle or freestyle or gray for a little bit.

Well, that's a little harder to do nowadays. You have turtle, anti, bombs (because everyone just loves those), what I like to call the Buick rush (basically a big ole slow rush with strong units, like the old days before the new units), or jsut a gray game (most common forms are antis). Seem a little bit repetive or humdrum to anyone else?

Maybe it's just me and this other guy, idonno, but the game is much more boring now. It use to be exciting and challenging and you could switch it up. And this is how it has become an old married couple, same thing over and over again. Anyways I'll prolly be playing less now because the game just isn't the same and I have school and football.

Well, I hear you on the whole "game isn't the same" thing. I can't blame you for getting away from it a bit more.

I know what you mean. This has happened to me a lot recently. I find myself browsing the internet more than I pay attention to the game itself.

Try taking a break for a while, and see what happens after that. I usually find it is fun again after taking a break.

In the end though, I think it will always have us coming back.

I just came out of a week break.

Ane Megabyte, you think it's because the forums are noobier? Hmm I wonder who left to help that situation out.

We just need a new way to win or different ways to play. ;) My opinion

What we need is an actively new type of player status which would be "playtesters"

Basically meaning that certain players who have had wide experience in the game get to test out options on units and gameplay that can either make the game more unqiue by changing status settings on units, turn waits, etc in order to see new diversity.

that would be a great idea but it would be hard to pick the person because some people might be like pick me pick me

If someone were to gold me, I would create a super-uber new form that would become the #1 form, cause the turtlers to bitch, and spice everything up.

The only old married couple here is me and Ko.

The rest of you are amateurs at this compared to us.

I know it's more than a game, it's a bunch of friends bit the game isn't as fun anymore. I'm still gonna play but it's not the same.

As most of us know, its the community that keeps this game running all the time. We are just a big happy family with the occasional dysfunctional episode. ;)

(occasional? Lets make it long and ongoing and I'll be happy)

The reality is that its not the game, its your perspective.

The game hasn't changed, so it can't have become anything. You're perspective on the game, and the community as a whole, has changed because you've spent whatever amount of time here.

Personally, I think most of you are silly, as me and Wolf have been here forever and we don't feel this way :p I think it just means more of you will be entering the "retired" phase.

The game hasnt changed; that you are right! But with people maturing and evolving, the game has not evolved with them. Hence people will feel as if the game is getting stale/repetative.

Personally it all depends on if you overplay yourself, or if you share your time ingame between talking to friends, clanmates, playing, running a clan, forums, and tournaments.

A good split among all the above things will allow you to enjoy the game for an increased ammount of time.

how do you think those of us who went through the years feel? :)

Remember, 1 unit in '05, and the wisp/ambusher came in the end of '04 (which did give us some diversion). Like I said, I think the people who've been here for like 6-8 months or some such are a bit silly ;)

Aye, Although I havent been as hardcore a player as most up until this summer, I was still around back in '03 and can remember the old days. Granted I think there could be many changes for the betterment of TAO, but none that are desperately needed.

pff, I still think a constant/regular influx of new units would be welcome

I dont disagree there; it would be welcome, but not needed!

There are so many good ideas in the CAU thread that should be reviewed a tad more seriously.

i went through that stage... took about a 3 month break. when i came back styles totally changed. my games are getting repetitive again but they are still fun. also it helps if you can play any style and any form with the same skill level. that way you can change up the game.

Apparently you don't know me very well lol. And I've been here since early '04 Megabyte... One of you said something about the community being the main part of the game *cough* Can you think of anyone that left lately who were main contributers to the forums?

The game is changing, I was loving the changes until this last one and this one almost seems to make it more like the old days.
