View Full Version : "Grey army" setting for Gold players

I'm thinking having a "Grey Army" option for Gold players would be really cool. It would enable Gold players to play against Gold players using their "Gold Army" and Grey players using their "Grey Army".

Some thoughts on implementation:

The Settings page would have two new buttons added to it. One would say Gold Army, the other would say Grey army. Selecting one would deselect the other. There would also be a "Use Grey Army" checkbox or button.

When the Gold Army button was selected, the user would be able to edit their Gold Army, using all the pieces available to them.

When the Grey Army button was selected, the user would be able to edit their Grey army (which would start out with the default army setup, minus any pieces that they didn't have to fill that out, or it could just start out blank). When setting up their grey army, a user would only have access to their pieces that are available to grey players.

When the "Use Grey Army" checkbox or button was deselected/unchecked, the user's Gold army would always be used. When the GUI element was selected/checked, the user's Gold army would be used against Gold players they faced, and the user's Grey Army would be used against Grey players they faced.

An ascii character that's unavailable to players when they're creating their name would be added to the front of a player's name to indicate that they had their Grey Army GUI element enabled (I'm thinking the smiley face, but any character would do).

Thoughts?

Why not just change your set-up..

Instead of doing all that..

Because when I'm sitting on a floor waiting for a challenge and a grey player jumps me, I wish I could give them a fair match instead of beating the heck out of them with units they can't have.

Too bad.

Press F5 right before you enter the arena, it will get you out of the game before you begin. That way no one will gain or lose any stats.

nice idea, but as its mainly a benefit to greys I wouldn't expect too much reaction on it

Greys are largely a sort of trial or demo type account, and as such you don't see too many developments meant to aid them.

I do like the concept, but I think simply having the ability to store a few setups and auto-switch them would be more useful in the general sense, without specifically getting a "grey-army" style one.

Or if you want to challenge a grey and use a grey set, or challenge a gold and use a gold set. To challenge some one simply type /challenge and then the name of the player, after you challenge a player no one but that player can play you unless you pick your piece up, then the challenge is cancelled. It helps the greys out more then any one, and I think that any suggestions that may discourage greys to go gold will never be excepted by any of the admins. Nice idea though.

That doesn't always work. :(

Hmmm...too much coding for such little effect. If they want to fairly play a n00b-ish grey, then they can reset their units to an all-grey setup. This feature would just make them lazy.

This has been suggested in other forms before. Basically the original suggestion was to be able to store multiple setups.
