Alright, I think its about time that we've had a thread for just talking about CAU. Thanks to the collapse of the CAU Committee, or practical collapse, we've been severely lacking it. In short, CAU needs some kind of organization. This would be closer to anarchy than the Committee, but it might just do until something better can be put in its place. I don't really even have any authority to start this, but rule is by the consent of the governed, right? :wink2: Hopefully, CAU can someday be self-governed, but that seems very far off.

1. For the citing of annoyances (i.e. Stop making non-reducable damage units!)
2. For asking of the practicality of a concept (i.e. Can I make a Necromancer? NO!)
3. For discussion on the finer points of the CAU guidelines (i.e. Do I really need to search for similar units? What constitutes "similar"?)
4. For any reason I'm not thinking of right now (I'll edit it in.)

If you have any questions about them, go ahead and ask them here. I know this is going to sound cheesy, but these guidelines are essential to the process of making CAU work.

Hmmmm, nice idea, this could be one of those 1000 pagers. So I'll start off...just sayin' that to anyone that sees this and isn't far needs to make a SPECIAL unit, not something that has all the elements and that's it, just look at some that do special things that have special attacks that don't attack with power they attack with something else i.e. wisp.

Wanted to get that off my chest :bigsmile:.

Cool! I like this. I was thinking about making a unit that has a passive ability of sprinting in a straight direction during an opponent's movement to provide as something that would block the continuation of their movement. However, this does not work with teleporting units.

Example:



XXXXX M = Where the opponent's unit is moving to
XMIXU U = Where the opponent unit is currently standing
XXXXX C = Where my CAU unit is currently standing
XXCXX I = Place wheree my CAU unit intercepts opponent's movement.

This is exactly what I was talking about. I'll have to mention something about not making a unit based on an idea disclosed in the discussion thread without their permission, but a CAU patent system would be too annoying. I guess we can just say that you have permission to neg them if they do or something. This is going along much more smoothly than I thought it would. :)

Your unit looks neat. It sounds like it would be out of place in a turn based game, though, if you could force your opponent to stop moving suddenly like that. It is frustrating not getting any of the details ;). It sort of reminds me of the Wizrobes in Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, with the illusions that would distract you while a magic attack was being set up.

Other than that, I only mentioned guidelines and grievances (like TheDemonKing). If you can think of other relavent stuff to mention in the first post, I'll add it. This is almost like a GD: CAU.

It sounds a little iffy, but I guess that's mostly because I'm not familiar with your style. If you want to be vague, then you'll get a vague response, I guess. But at least it sounds original.

You know what's the most bothersome thing about CAU now-a-days? The fact that nobody has the initiative to get sparked with an extremely new idea. It's always more of the same with a few knobs turned. There are those that can make pretty good units, even without originality on their side, though.

And another question is is there a set range of how far it's allowed to do this?

I guess I'll start by asking if anyone thinks they have a different perspective on implementing invisibility into the game. I'm working on something of the likes.

I don't think any original ideas can fit into the category of invisiblity without being overpowered or unoriginal.
Most of all invisible-dealing units wasn't given much praise..

Most of all invisible-dealing units wasn't given much praise..I didn't say original, I said good. Everything is not about originality or uniqueness, some things are simply making something work that no one thought could work.

But every1 still looks at his units though, either to help or neg. Mostly neg.

I haven't looked at half of his units. I'd like to see someone delete them, actually. If someone tried to post with this quality in gd, their posts would be locked, etc.

Not really, but one time Hugh saw that someone made a "topless enchantress" and ended that whole thing. ;) That was the only time I remember a Mod doing something in CAU, though Xerent made a few units and Realist responded to the Anti-Realist thread once. :D

The moderators are always in GD cuz of the number of people there..

What is the unspoken limit of how many unit ideas you are allowed to post in a day? Does it matter if they are good unit ideas or not?
