I think it is ridiculous that you can get booted for certain offensive/curse words, sometimes you get frustrated or you simply say something is "gay" by instinct, and get booted, can't it simply be censored?

No, It's better the way it is. It will teach you how NOT to swear.

Think of it as a lesson in life. You are learnign Self Control. There is NEVER a time in life when you should be able to "accidentally" say something, especially on a computer. Typing is a voluntary action, that you choose to make. Every letter and word you type is something you SPECIFICALLY type out.
Just be more careful about what you type.

I would have to agree with the majority on this. You are booted for saying these words simply because there are many children that play on this site, and it's the Admin's responsibility and legal obligation to make sure it is safe for minors.

Now on the other hand, although I'm pretty sure this was mentioned quite a while back, there are some specific ads, that although I personally don't mind looking at, as a parent I would have some issues with my children playing this game.

For Instance http://i71.photobucket.com/albums/i152/tbgets/taoadd.jpg

This particular one contradicts the sexual words that are not allowed.

Edit: Before it gets brought up I do understand that TAO needs to advertise. And that banners to help make a profit, but I'm sure there are guidelines that they can follow when deciding which banners to advertise and which ones not to.

Perhaps you should use this to take the hint that use of the word "gay" is not an acceptable means to communicate your frustration for something in the real world due to the larger social implications you make while associating "homosexuality" with "sucks".

Have a cookie, be careful not to choke.

(sorry to everyone else, am sensitive to ignorance on topics such as this)

well firstly, most children that i have seen know all these words by second grade and secondly, sometimes typing is instinctual, not physically but mentally, under certain conditions you type those words without thinking.
also cant you just use alt codes to pass the filter?

i support the filter but it isnt that effective.

well that's a completely ridiculously idiotic "instinct", if those are your instincts you shouldn't be playing at all.

Look, rules are rules. I don't care how frustrated you are. The boot is to show you have no self control.

No. If you make childish remarks to insults, then you deserve to be booted.

I;d like proof of that, since it is actually younger kids who are just learning to type who spend MORE effort to do such. If you had said older kids somethime type by "instinct" then I might havew bought it, but claiming a child who is still in their first years of writing do so by "instinct" is just silly.

If you type those words without thinking, perhaps it's time you think and take some responsibility for your words. Just because children know these words does not mean we should allow them to be fostered within our game. Imagine walking up to a little child and saying "the word of the day is fuck. Can you say fuck? F-U-C-K!" The mother would probably beat the snot out of you. Similarly, kids know that sex and violence exists, yet such knowledge does not warrant us to allow pornographic images or advertisements in TAO.

*looks at top of page...*

Point still stands! If your instincts suck, it's time to break them (and TAO is only here to help). ;)

i support the filter but it isnt that effective.Passing the filter in any manner, using alt codes, or just spelling things like "fuk" will get you kicked, by me. Furthermore, the filter is very effective and has drastically cut back on the cursing we once saw. I'm guessing you weren't around when it was first put into effect. People complained, because it was change, but it did dramatically reduce that kind of language. Further having cursing as a kickable and in many cases deletable offence only further strengthens this moral.
