I'm quitting modding

Over the last month I have been so swamped with school and sports I have had virtually no time for tao. However my schedule has lightened up quite a lot and for the last couple days and I have been on a lot, and what do I come back to....ASSHOLES and I just don't have any desire at all to help this community what so ever.

Every time I come on there is some asshole (that is almost definately a regular gamer/forumer) who feels the need to make a name with capital i's and l's or coded letters and spams up the lobby with the word nigger or cyber and makes fun of me and other people and renders me virtually useless. I mean if i wasn't on I know this wouldn't happen because I've been around for a couple years, and I never saw anyone with names like that spamming and swearing. It only happens when a mod is on.

I applied for the job as moderator because I really liked this community and really wanted to help it become a better place. I'm not sure why people feel the need to give me or any of the other mods a hard time but it's definately happening. The people around here make it so the majority of the time I signed on my moderator account I had myself a terrible time. I have virtually never enjoyed myself and thats why i'm quitting.

I just can't take the kind of abuse you need to be able to, to be a mod. I wan't to tell everyone of the assholes right the fuck off but know I can't because of the posistion I was in. I think some of you need to look yourselves in the mirror and think about the way you treat people. All I know is this community is nothing like it used to be. People don't come onto this game anymore with the mindset of enjoying themselves and making friends and just having a good time. It seems like everyone is trying to give everyone else a hard time and the goal of a lot of people is to treat as many people like shit as you can. I personally do not want to spend what little free time I have trying to help out people who clearly do not want my help.

I'm choosing to quit now because it would be very selfish of me to keep the posistion of a mod purely for the units, or actions it enables you to have. I do not enjoy coming onto this game anymore right now, and if I continue to mod I will not be around much longer.

My only hope is now that I am no longer a mod I can go back to enjoying this game. It has been a big part of my life for the past couple years as well as most of you people have been and I hope you can all understand my decision.

Some players think they know what a mod should do, and they tell you what to do, then others get mad when you do something. No matter what, it's always our fault.

I know EXACTLY what you mean. Some guy that gets on and spams "HANG NlGGERS", right? He uses either lines or special, hard-to-track characters... Targets mods, and most specifically, me.

Since he only acts when sergiy's offline (an indicator that he has some knowledge or contact with sergiy, even if it is unknowingly on sergiy's behalf), we can't really get any admin help in this respect.

To be honest, I have felt like quitting as well. The guy creates trouble specifically BECAUSE of the in-game moderators, and since we can't fully get rid of him, we end up inadvertedly creating trouble for the TAO community by being here to help.

However, if it weren't for us, the place would still be overrun with cyberers and spammers of other sorts if it weren't for us. We can't let one shitheel get in the way of that. Heck--if we are co-operative among ourselves and with other contributing members of the TAO community we can even track down this shitheel and kick him around (we were able to kick lines, and we have gotten this shitheel's new name--well, all but me).

It would be great if we could have better conditions to work with a copy/paste function for lobby names, but even without it it is still an honor and a privelege to be a mod and even if we can't bat 1.000, we can still help the community with every /kick. :)

I understand what you mean about the irony of being designated to help causing harm... When I signed up for the mod position, I had no idea something like this would happen. However, when I signed up I had also decided that I would help the community unconditionally, and I will work to overcome the virgin spammer-nerds (AKA lines and stuff) and make this community a brighter place.

Here allstar said everything I had been to afraid as a mod to say here. Hopefully this thread (if not his leave) will raise some awareness as to the situation the mods are in TAO-wise, and people will lighten up just a bit (and maybe, ahem, that copy/paste function serg?) ... I don't think I'll really be able to convince allstar to keep on keepin' on as a moderator, but I genuinely hope that he gets what he wants out of this game by leaving. :) It was nice modding with you.

I made this a thread because I thought you all should hear the reasons for my leaving from me and that thats the least I could do, instead of everyone hearing it from someone else.

edit- LT it wasnt just one person that did names with L's and i's and symbols it was multiple people and it happens constantly. If it's only one person then they change their writing style a lot and they use drastically different names. But people like that arn't the only reason im quitting they are just a major factor.

OK! time for my mini rant....

Modship, administration, head cookie eater...whatever. Positions of authority and responsibility equate a certain behavior from people. This is just a fact of life. You deal with it and move on if your in these positions.

To the mods griping...deal with it (which you all are, so kudos). Its not just here, its universal. That sounds rude and uncaring on my part, but its a reality. People are inevitably going to make your job more difficult. You can either stick at it, or leave. I appreciate that you all don't typically complain on these things, so don't take it that I'm implying such. Just don't start making it a habit is all I'm saying :p

Allstar doesn't want to deal with it. That's totally his call, and if he doesn't want to do so, he shouldn't. I give him kudos as a person for making the decision, but thats it. I'm not gonna praise him for doing a job he volunteered to do, because its what he volunteered to do. Nor would I try to convince him to "keep at it."

If he feels he doesn't want to do be a mod, none of you should try to say/convince otherwise. If he doesn't want to be there, its his call, and frankly I wouldn't want someone there who doesn't want to be (no matter what I think of them, or the good a job they do).

Yeah, see my rant in the HA thread. Yesterday someone said I needed to help players and control some harder bashing, then upon asking the person to be nice I got bashed for "abusing my powers" :rolleyes: Ya just can't win. The worste is when someone claims abuse for a mod kicking someone, when they just got to the lobby and have no clue *why* there was a kick. :rolleyes:

As much as mega is being... blunt about things, he's right. This type of reaction was expected by me. There will be times where any action of a mod's will be wrong, no matter what. There will be things you can't deal with, and there will be times some will need a break.

Now, I have a few things to say to a few people:

Allstar, I'm glad you came forward with these feelings and will be doing what makes you happier. Good luck pwnzing normally.

Zander, while no one directly blames you for these recent events, I can't help but think at the very least you opened up a nasty can of worms. You were banned from this game not only for the direct actions, but for the larger implications and downstream trouble caused. So, yes, LT has accepted your appology, but you can't blame him for being disgruntled if someone else happens to act in the exact same manner as you did.

To everyone who has already asked me if they would make a good mod, if I can put in a good word for them for mod, or will do either of these things in the future: the answer is no. I'm sorry, but I must respectfully ask that these requests cease. Not only do I believe no more mods are needed, but any impression I have of any player will not be changed by last minute requests. Some of you are wonderful, some are not so suited for any kind of role like this, and either way, my opinions will not change. More then that tho, please see this thread as reasons why modship is not all fun and games (as many of you continue to tell me).

I really do appologize for my own gruffness (especially after calling Mbyte on it), but yeah, some things did need to just be outright said. I still think you're all wonderful, and still very much appreciate any constructive criticism/feedback you may have for me. I appreciate your contribution to the community, and sticking to it even though you didn't feel like it. I also appreciate the fact that you called it quits and posted the real reason, instead of making up some complete bull. I'm gonna miss you in purple (for some reason, that didn't sound right), and I wanna thank you for your patience with me, and all the other newbs/noobs in the lobby. You took the time to help me with any problem I had, even when you wanted to sign out.

I hope you rejoin the mod-loop later on when you have a bit more time for it, and when you regain your patience level for the jerks around here. I'll be looking forward to seeing you booting again. :)
