why not just change the in game font then to something more easily read?

In game they look almost identical. And those are not even the trouble spots. The almost infinite combination of alt-0000 letters and symbols usable in names makes it nearly impossible for a mod to kick a determined spammer.

I've said it before, and damnit I'll say it again. TAO needs to limit chat and names to an alpha-numeric system. Just the basic letters/sybols/numbers needed to speak the language the game is designed for.

mods should just be able to click on the names in the lobby and select kick or other various features that could be a drop down window or whatnot. Then it doesn't matter what letters/symbols/numbers make up a name.

Bax, the problem of your idea is that if they are going to click someone, they could accidently kick someone. This is only because when some logs in, the person either goes up or down.

thats a supposed possible problem if a certain capability was implemented into the game (i.e. clickable menus to kick and such)


Simple font change is just easier bax, takes pretty much minimal effort
A dropdown menu (i.e. when you right click) to give you options like kick/stats and such would take a bit more work. It'd be nicer, sure, but a font change is simpler and more likely to be done.

I was just thinking what would happen to all the golds that already have wierd symbols in their name. Would it automatically switch that symbol to something else? I know there are probably only a handful with really strange symbols, but I know quite a few people with crosses in their name.

But the bottom line is doing anything is better than doing nothing, even if it hurts a few people to help everyone else.

There, now everyone knows.
Some symbols are easy and do not cause problems.
It is the | that are an issue.

If they do away with symbols, better let me recreate a new perma account in Rev.

simple, make it so you can longer input those alt characters in the login

then, when the person with such a character can't login, they're forced to send in a ticket to get their name changed
