I know some of you guys use Macs... so asking here isn't completely pointless.

I've got some project for school due after my break (Tuesday). This project involves me recording an interview on my iBook's microphone with the Sound Studio program.

Exccept... my internal microphone doesn't work. The tech people at the school gave me this Logitech mic to plug into the port thingy since they didn't have time to fix the mic.

But Sound Studio now won't open when I have this mic plugged in. Other application still work (like Word--I can record in Word using the mic), but I can only open Sound Studio when I'm using the internal mic--which dpesn't work.

record it, host it on the net, open it with Sound Studio... just a thought.

Cept I don't know how to get the sound file out of a Word document, if that makes any sense.

Hmm. I am a Mac user, but I've never used this program. Try opening Your program, then inserting the mic.

Tried it.
As soon as it recognized the external mic, it quit automatically and wouldn't re-open.

GarageBand also doesn't work to record. I don't get why those programs don't work, but Word does.

Hmm. Have you installed the Mic software etc.?

I'm pretty sure I don't have to install any software to use it. It's a school computer and school microphone, and they install everything you need for you. If I needed to install something, they would've told me or more likely done it for me.

Or would they've?

Ok, then does it have it's own program, or is Sound Studio it?

I don't think it has any program. It's just supposed to replace the internal mic when it's plugged in.

Try getting another sound recording program.
For instance: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/download/mac

Also it should be possible to extract files like sound recordings out of Word, though I don't know how offhand.. what version of Word is it?

Find out if they have a cord to connect the two mics. IF they don't try going with plus' idea.

I'm not sure I understand what your saying here...

And plusminus, I believe it's version 11.1
I can't download new programs though. It's a school computer, so you're not aloud to and I think they even have it set up that you litterally can't download programs, but I don't know as I've never tried.

Can't download programs? Well that puts a damper in things.
How big is a Word file if you record like 10 seconds of sound? If it's small enough to e-mail when zipped up (less than 10 megs) you could e-mail it to me and I could have a go at extracting it. I don't even know how to record sounds in Word, but mostly cause I've never tried. And I'm good with computery things as you may or may not know.

On school computers, I think you can download whatever you want, you just can't install the programs.
