I dont think that clerics should have to be destroyed for victory because there is no way that you can beat someone with just a cleric.

Yes... but while you may not be able to beat someone if you only have a cleric, you can still draw. As much as I dislike seeing clerics cornered in by 2 wards, it's a valid (altho poorly constructed) strategy.

They are mobile units and should have to be destroyed. If you don't have the iniciative to kill it in the first couple of turns, then it's there to haunt you. Yes, sometimes it is annoying when it's the last unit and it relies on a ward for protection, but I don't think the rule of having to destroy it will change.

As long as it can move, you have to kill it to win. Immobile units don't have to be killed, but usually are.

There is more strategy to the game when you are forced to kill the cleric.
