I think that you should get rid of the Mate1 Advertisements because some people (such like me) have parents that walk in and ask what I'm doing. lol Sorry if this was a waste of a thread, but I don't like some of the advertisements that pop up.

If you have a firewall, it might keep it from downloading. I have one that keeps me from downloading things from certain sites every once and a while.
Just ask your parents if you can download it.

you can block some of them... but not the flash ones...

Actually, you can block all of them. I haven't seen a single add from these forums on this computer, since God knows when. [I honestly can't remember]
You need to install Firefox's adblock as well. Then, add the ad to the adblock.
Only trouble I occasionally have, is still hearing the noise, even though I don't see the ad.
It's the one that tells you to type something in the text box, and let her say it. Others I have no trouble with, though.

just go to the extensions page at mozilla.com and download noscript. it blocks all javascript, but like coder said, not the flash. there's a separate extension for that. just search in the extensions page for "blocker" or "flash"... should work.
Spirit_Monger
04-17-2006, 03:41 PM
Yeah. There are a lot of them. For some you may get the option of "block this add" and "block this iframe". [I forget what it says exactly, since I haven't had to block them for a while now]
I think, though I'm not positive, if you click block iframe when you can, it will be blocking more than one add at once, so it reduces the time you spend blocking.

I just went to another site with some adds, and cliked adblock iframe. It blocked all the ads that would appear there (3), so I suppose if it gives you that option it would only benefit you to click that instead of just blocking the single ad.

All the adds are annoying, but the one's with sound are the worst, I can scroll down to where no one over my should can see the chick, but I have to mute my speakers to shut the stupid clown up. Actually, the only time I need my speakers is when I watch videos which is rarely, so it's actually not that bad. I just like to complain. Now I don't have anything else to complain about...this sucks!

The fact is, we shouldn't in one breath denounce foul language, cyber, and other assorted "chat" while advertising these sites. Yes there are ways to get around them through various ad blockers and such, but simply covering over a problem does not get rid of the problem. Those who don't have the computer know-how or access to do these things are simply subject to them, which is bound to get a few angry parents blocking this site (and dare I even assume cancelling/refusing payments).

a few points...
1. Computer know how, or can't get access? I can give you 2 links where all you have to do is click to dl and install. Takes a minute or two. What know-how? I'm reasonably certain that even someone as dumb as AIDS could do it.
For reference here are the two links, I'll even give you hints for those without "computer know how" to do it alone.
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/ (hint: click "Download Firefox")
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1865/ (hint: click "Install now")
(EDIT) As a bonus...one more link, an ablock booster so it'll update itself automatically...
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1136/ (hint: once again...click "install now")
2. I do not believe TAO get's to select what ads it displays on their site. Its kinda silly to rant against Sergiy not getting rid of the specific ads when he doesn't really get a say of what gets put in there. They get paid for the ad space, and fastclick (or whatever) puts ads there. Sergiy, Bills, Redbones don't sit there selecting each ad to display, nor do they likely get much of a say in the process.

Meh, Im not an expert when it comes to firefox and browsers, nor did I know they had patches for it, I figured it was just some auto-update that goes with windows and such. but thanks for the link, Mega.

you could probably install it, make no start menu folder, and hide a desktop icon someplace for your use

it will bring up all blockable objects. then just click away the ones that aren't from http://www.tacticsarena.com or imageshack

don't set it up as the default browser... use it as a secondary for your own use. that's what i do with mine... IE is my default, but i also have access to ff.
though i agree, the Mate1 ads do need to be taken off. :/ not exactly what i want to be looking at on this site.
