maybe there needs to be a mod on at all times during the day... because of the apparent problem with neg_rep_king. there are enough mods that they can do that. and so that we can alleviate spammers like him.

Good luck with finding someone to stay on the computer all day...wait..this forums is packed with them.

This isnt thread worthy though..spammers come, they get bored (or banned) and leave.Simple as that. Then the mods just clean up the mess.

The mods that get choosen are fair choices because they are like 17, 18ish so they are more mature than the younger players but they have college and work to do and its hard for them to get on and do some business, but at the same time its hard to get mature younger people who are 14, 15 to be right for the job.

maybe they can have enough mod's! that with the peaple all over the world playing it can be like a job find enough to cover all time zones.i mean ultima does it:0) why can't we it's not that hard.

you can't know the countless times i have run across peaple that really don't want to play the game they just want to find someone that will cyber with them.It really didn't bother me much till oneday i let my niece play and she battled like 10 guy's or girls that wanted to know her age, sex .and location and a few where really bad(wanting her to stick something some where) . you can ban them but they just make another account and it starts all over. if you had enough mod's to baby sit(which shouldn't have to be done)this game would be really great to play whould go along way.
I really enjoy this game i can block out the most of the rants that goes on. but then i am an adult. most peaple who play are just children.and when there parents see what they are playing ain't really the problem.

It's the cybering the way some peaple talk dirty that make the parents not want there children playing the game.

I sometimes think i would not let my children play this game with all the perves trying to pick them up :( .

but none the less it's a great game that really needs a handle on some content (account names, more words blocked ect...).

just my toughts  thanks
silvermyst.

p.s I am available most nights after 6pm eastern time if you need a mod thaks:bigsmile:

I agree with you Silvermist, I have had younger Clan members get really upset with what is said to them. I surpose some people have nothing better to do.

I just ignore people like that and don't bother replying they soon get bored and leave the game, but when they get the attention in the lobby it encourages them to do it even more.

What can you do?

Yeah...this is an apparant problem to some people and this thread doesn't really give a good suggestion on how to fix it. You'd be hard-pressed to find someone that's free 24/7 and has the skills to be a mod.

boogieman

or you can get the mods to stay on here on shifts... eg. a mod stays here for 6 hours, then the next mod gets on. then it goes until all the mods have gone, and starts over again.

You really don't have a clue why mods were chosen, huh?
There ages are very disparate, ranging from 14-21+ fyi.

As to the actual suggestion...yeah right. Its unrealistic to expect someone to just sit on the boards and wait for a problem all day every day.

Impossible.

Mods are volunteers, meaning they donate whatever free time they have to the community. To put them on a schedule would require compensation for the time in which they should be doing more important things. I doubt Bills would be too thrilled if he had to start paying his mods just so there'd be a 'presence' at all times.

Easy solution: ignore feature...

That is true and besides this kind of thing happens all the time in other games that have chat.

The mods wouldn't be able to check all the conversations that happened in battles, so this thing could never be eliminated. Unless they took the chat feature, but that would just spoil the game and the community.

Mods are on atleast 10 hours a day combined mabey even more. The ppl were choosen for a reason and if we get too many mods mods might get overpowered. If there are 20 mods its not a honor to become 1. I think that it should stay the same way it is....

boogieman
04-18-2006, 06:43 PM
well, then it shoudn't be a problem to set up a schedule for them, depending on if they have work and school. but if they're committed to modding, that shoudn't be too much of a prob. :)

9 hours a day is alot of work, considering if they might be a student or have a job. Do they have any time left over for a social life? Well you have to respect them really.

Said it before, and I'll say it again. Unrealistic expectations.
Your talking about volunteers in an online community, really, who are you guys kidding? Most of the mods would just quit if they were required to be on at specific times every single day without compensation.

If you feel that a schedule is a solution, feel free to contact all the mods and attempt to organzie one.

You guys really dont know what a mod is, do you? Stick around the game for a while, observe some mods, and get to know what a mod does and what they're picked on before you make judgements...Please.

Well like i said before i am probally the oldest that plays this game(over 30).My wife included. i would not mind sitting at night trying to clean the lobbies.i love this game and i would love to lend a hand to cleaning it up  to make it safe and enjoyable to every one:bigsmile:

The more you pitch yourself as a candidate, the less likely you are to become one...

If you're serious about wanting to help the community, you'd make more of a 'campaign pitch' by doing rather than saying.

Don't call them, they'll call you.

We're on a tremendous amount of time. If there's a gray spammer, chances are he won't really be able to mess things up too bad. If there's a gold spammer, a simple s/s and PM can eliminate him.
If you're just upset about cyberers and the like, calm down. They never hurt anyone :p. Getting rid of cyberers isn't exactly the most serious of jobs.

Actually, you'd be surprised at the ages of a good many players. The teens are just more post happy here in the boards is all. Not that age is exactly an indicator factor, or the only one involved.

plus...what plat said

btw, I tweaked the modbar to allow us to monitor multiple servers at a time again (sorry, this only works for mods). Coverage should increase as soon as this news (and its use) gets spread. This should alleviate your concerns tremendously.

I'm curious whether people are simply pulling these numbers out of the air or are actively doing some sort of info/observation gathering.

It's more like half and half. Whenever the mods are on the forums, it's for about a two-hour block.

Yes Jeffery, that's what we need: cynics for mods.

However, that's not to say I don't think MB would be an excellent mod. I just think the qualities that I respect in him don't include cynicism :p.

I'm NOT trying to flame or argue with you but I think the youngest people can also be trusted which is sometimes hard to find but that's what I think. It's like a stereotype that kids aren't trusted (which is sometimes true because most of them are just...noobs) but some others are. (And also some smaller kids are more mature with older people maybe they might swear less..?)

And I agree with this suggestion but like Woodland said, they could be at work if they have a job, at school, or doing homework. Or maybe they should get more mods (and I think they have tons of them I'm not sure) or something.
