View Full Version : Deliberate Bannings

I propose that anyone who takes actions to be deliberately banned have their accounts completely deleted instead.
If you are that interested in being banned that you will spam and act like an ass, then nothing you've said while a member should be left behind.
I don;t care of it is a day old account or a 2 year old account. If you act like an ass to get banned, it should be the most permanent banning possible.

That's actually a great idea. Then the forums would be a hell of alot easier to clean up when a noob comes along or some "respected" member decides to go noob just to get banned.

what if that someone.. decides to be a good boy and wants to come back

Then they would have to make a new account and start over, AFTER getting permission to return from the Mods.
They simply do not deserve their previous posts or rep after ac ting in such a fashion.

Well then you are a miserable failure because you will most certainly get banned.

Well Madars if you're trying to accomplish something from this, it's already been done. Spartion holds the 11 red boxes right now and currently the most neg
you cant compete with that ^^^^^^^^

I think it's a good idea, becuase new members wouldnt get any idiotic ideas, and the banned member doesnt at all deserve the rep or the posts on a banned account.

I 100% agree with Jeffery.
If people don't want to be here anymore, let's make it easy for them and us, because we don't want them here either.

Poor idea. Random posting gaps destroy thread integrity.

You could make them like a guest name. Their posts will still be there, but not their name or post stats.

Liz, but that would involve some more coding; and we all know more work = not happening. :D

Names are important for following the thread!
Anyways, the current method works fine. People who will not follow the rules of the forum will be forced to leave the forum. Everyone who stays here must follow the rules. Stuff works. No problem.

Well then what about keeping the names and not having a post count or reputation? Couldn't that work?

Jeff's idea is an interesting one. What if we simply delete their accounts and turn all of their posts into "Guest" type posts. Or we could just reset their rep to 0, and force them to start a new account once they get permission to reset pc.

What purpose does this serve?

What purpose does this serve?
It's an extra punishment.
They'll have to start all over no matter what. So people might think twice about being an ass.

It's not much of one.

Why not? It's along with the banning.
That way the person can't just say "oops, I'm sorry", get their name back, and have all of their reputation and post count again.

Several people have deliberately done things to get banned. Then they come back and ask for forgiveness, and things go on until the next time they force themselves to be banned. Obviously just locking their accounts for a short while does not work.
Removing their posts (via prune) and making sure the account is never used again will make people think twice before they act like an ass to be banned.

I went through the thread, and while it's a good argument that some thread integrity can be lost, it's still a good idea. The people that force themselves to get banned aren't usually very highly respected members with extremely valued posts. It's not such a big deal if the posts are removed, because the posts could be quoted or easily deduced judging by the posts around it.

If they were that afraid of gaps in posting, then simply delete the name. That would leave the posts behind, but the user would be gone, along with all access to it, posts, rep and posts made.

Sounds good. Even the quotes would have to be like
...

Most forums when you delete a member the members posts would stay and the name of the poster would be somthing like (example if I was deleted)
(Guest)
Matt 34.5
No post count, no rep, just a guest's post. I'm not sure if its the same way here, but I am sure it can be done if its not already.

Well...then argue that the mods should instead lock their accounts for a long while. That seems to be a much simpler solution to the problem you state, and one that doesn't ruin thread readability.
I still don't think that is such a common occurance, at least it wasn't when I was here. We never forgave people after short periods of time.

The my original meletus (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showpost.php?p=9681&postcount=6) account was deleted.. and yet it still shows my posts as meletus.. and the second meletus (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showpost.php?p=75508&postcount=455) account is banned. You can see the difference. There is nothing lost in the conversations by deleting the user. Search for deleted or banned members results in no findings.

The current administration is not going to do anything for free that takes up their time.

it takes up no more time then a normal banning methinks.
I think poopslinger made a good point - upon deletion the name stays to preserve thread integrity, yet all other information is wiped clean. I'm kinda for this form of punishment. I'm also of the Quaker belief that letters of appology should be posted publicly. The harm is agains the community, so should the appology be to/for the community. Even mods making a thread in the anouncement section and pasting anonymous appology letters might be beneficial. erm...
