View Full Version : David Blaine: Drowned Alive
Punishment

Anyone get a chance to see this last night?
What did you guys think about it?
Some Info:
He was in a tank for a week before attempting to hold his breath for nine minutes.
He didn't make it the full nine minutes, and stopped at about 7:15.
You can read about how this went http://abcnews.go.com/GMA/story?id=1913098&page=1 there.

Lol, how so?
He has done some pretty cool things before, I thought this was interesting. I only saw the second half as Prison Break was on for the first hour, but it was still entertaining. I'm going to download the whole thing later on if i can find it on mininova so that I may watch it at my leisure.

What that guy put his body threw was insane. First he stays underwater for like 170 something hours. Then without coming out to take a day of rest to prepare for the big stun(holding breath for 9 mins). He just come to the surface for a couple minutes catches his breath gets chained down and then tries to escape. I mean to be underwater for a week only drinking liquids and to then try and hold your breath longer then anyone has ever held their breath before, while uncuffing yourself is just absolutely unbelievable. He is just incredible.
-anyone see his hands and feet? EWWWW! Now that was pruny!

Lol, yes. They were quite pruny.

That mess came on during the Apprentice, so I only got to see the part where he was shivering like an old lady and had to be helped up by two mermaid-esque beauties. It was worth a good five minutes, I'll tell ya that.

so is he like really dead?
Um, that's insane. Let me just tell ya, I can hardly hold my breath for 30 seconds.
Anyone care to imagine the "Hold your br34th" nub thread with some cat rockin' 7 minute times? That'd piss some people off real quick.

My friend goes to NYU, and her and her friend went to see him while he was living in his water bubble. To say the least, they were only a few of the many people who made signs and taunted him during his week long bubble-adventure.

Hehe, you have no imagination :p
Mind Freak did it too. I wanna know how they do it, though.
Also, the drowned alive shit..That was crazy. I honestly thought he was gonna drown.

Yea, it was a bit scary..
I don't see how anyone could hold their breath that long, it's insane. Maybe he could if he wasn't in the water all week, but had rested or wahtever. Who knows, that guy is crazy.

David Blane and Mind Freak are both amazing. They have a tottaly new kind of magic that I have no clue how they can possible do.
I first saw the David Blane show a while ago. It really caught my attention right away. He did a card trick that interacted with me from the tv. He held a deck a cards out then showed them to me fast. He then picked the card I was thinking of. He tottaly freaked me out. I know he probably knew that he showed the one card more distinctly then the rest so that card would stick in my head but it was very very cool.
The levatation is very freaky. I can't even come close to understanding how they can do it.

Your title disappoints me, for I know he didn;t die.
Blaine is a pussy. A straight up wannabe street mage, who does only the mearest of illusions.
Angel kicks his ass ANY DAY.
Blaines "levitation" is done via a toe lift. They then edit in the shots of him "up in the air". During the actual filming, he lifts 2 inches at most. Notice how the people watching are ALWAYS to the rear, slightly to the side, when he does it. (btw, I do that trick to my friends kids all the time)

Still , holding your breath for 7 + minutes doesn't constitute as pussy, that's pretty insane.

He was on a bus, told a girl to pick a card, threw it at the window, card was stuck INSIDE the glass...I mean...come on now...

PSST- it was on the outside of the windshield silly.
And Puni, has Blaine ever hung himself from hooks embedded in his back, then been lifted up and flown around by a helicopter? NOPE

When Criss Angel did that, the skin on his back was like..ripping off. It was pretty cool though ^_^

Jeffrey is a hater...Blaine is amazing, I've watched mostly all his illusions and he is pretty crazy. Angel may be able to torture himself but I don't think that is quite what David Blaine is going for. My personal favorite is when he jumped off the tower in New York or wherever it was...I looked on in awe.

I have seen EVERY ONE of Blaines illusions explained. They are nothing but common trickery. ANYONE who is even slightly good at slight of hand can do ANY trick Blaine does.

How does that make Angel better than Blaine? Submitting oneself to pain like that isn't magic, or an illusion .. just a high tolerance for pain or whatever..

notice:
*the card shouldn't be facing towards you if he throws it like that
*the last card, the queen, he flips it a different way
Heres how it is done:
*he puts some sticky crap on the back of the queen
*puts the queen at the bottom of the deck
*shoots all the cards at the wall, and flips the queen once endover end, and if you watch the last time they show him doing it, you can barely see him doing this.
*gets his assistant, "The random chick pulled from the crowd" to pretend to feel for the card

Blaine isn't the idiot. The millions of people that watched his show is.
I mean come on we watch this guy try to do "stunts" and then he calls his people to pull him out when he can't do it. Then we all drool over this guy.
Seriously, look at Evil Knievel. What if when he jumped the fountains at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas, he said in mid-air, "Oh wait boys I am going to crash. Somebody catch me"?

Blaine is a moron. I watched the end. I laughed so hard at the announcers. "we don't consider him a failure" blah blah.
Criss Angel is so much cooler. It's like he sold his soul to the devil.
It's even more awesome when you see stuff like that in person. My friend can do tons of the same tricks. It's INSANE! I love card tricks.

i dunno, i quite like Blaine. i mean, ok he didnt hold his breath for the full 9 minutes, but after spending a week in a globe of water with a liquid diet, barely resting before being handcuffed to concrete, managing to uncuff himself and stay down for over 7 minutes is still pretty impressive in my books.
its not magic, its endurance. its quite interesting. it doesnt make him any kind of celebrity or magician in my eyes, more an athlete.

I think that 2hr show Blaine did was more a test of endurance than magic. i actually watched that...i was very interested at first, but got boring. - until he actually attempted the stunt at the very end.
but nonetheless... Blaine > Angel

Well, I once stayed under water for 3 weeks and held my breath for, like, an hour and a half. However, I'm not so insecure that I had to publicize it and make some sort of big, huge deal out of it.

The fact that he did fail in this attempt says something about the kind of performer he is. David Blaine is for real. He isn't trying to fool anyone. He was really in that water, he really did hold his breath for 7 minutes. can any of you even hold your breath for 2 minutes, 3 minutes???
I don't like David Blaine. I think he is over hyped, BUT... He is for real and i respect that.

This I find very disturbing. I remember watching the levitation a long time ago and just couldn't figure it out. I can usually figure out most magic tricks now but this one stumped me. I found out how it was done a few days ago and have been meaning to find that video I saw of Blaine doing it on the street. If they really goddamn edited it for TV to make him rise higher than he actually did I'm gonna be uber pissed.
Also, why is everyone assuming that he did hold his breath for however long it was, this is a magic show after all, it's not like David Copperfield actually made the statue of liberty disappear and walk through the great wall of china.
