I have to make a movie soundtrack for my history through hollywood class. I basically need to pick 10 songs and burn them on a cd. The songs are supposed to fit the scene in the movie. I need to describe why I chose that song for the particular scene etc etc.

I got assigned the movie Saving Private Ryan to do. Sweet movie, but I'm having trouble picking songs and scenes to do. I usually listen to songs that don't really fit into the setting of the film.

I was wondering if maybe I can get some good songs off you guys that would fit this movie. There are scenes like where they go tell the mother her sons have died.(driving towards the house) and she knows something bad has happened. I need a sad song but I can't think of anything. I'll take any help I can get. You can name some songs you think might fit well or even give me certain scenes and songs that would fit well there if you know the movie well. I'm pretty screwed right now and I'm desperate for help. Any kind of help I can get would be much appretiated.

Um... you made two of these threads. :)
And how would we get you the songs? I have a few if you want them. And are they supposed to be instrumental or what?

Most movies I have watched tend to stick with a particular genre so that may be the decision that you want to make first.

I can use absolutely any song I want. It just needs to fit the scenes. I usually listen to rap/hip hop songs. They don't really fit into the movie and I need some songs that would be more suitable for this movie but because i don't really listen to other genres of music I'm kinda in a pickle and dont really know what songs to get. This is where I need your help.

The problem comes down to none of us knowing what the movie/scene is about, and wpould then have no idea what wpould be "appropriate".

I've put music to a lot of different shows before, and it always comes down to matching the music to exactly what is happening on screen at the time.

As for the scene you mentioned, why not the one "Oh where oh where could my baby be". I would suggest the original verses the Pearl Jam version.

for the beach landing scene in the beginning (D-Day) i recommend the song "Pwned" by "The Krauts"

Actually, the 1804 overture would kick ass.

I'm sure many of you have seen saving private ryan. If you can't remember scenes you could just tell me songs that you think would go good for battle scenes or sad scenes. I just dont know many songs thats my biggest problem. If you give me song names I can dowload them and then try and fit them into scenes. Probably not the best way to do it but at least its better then nothing.

I'm going to watch the movie again tonight. I will write down scenes that I think would be good for the soundtrack so you will have a better idea of what songs to suggest.

Thanks for your suggestions so far.

Whenever I go to read a book I pick up a random cd and put it on, and I swear to god as the songs go through they always find a way to match how the book/story is going, perhaps you could try doing that?

Maybe some '60s hippee song, like Help from The Beatles.

"Comfortably Numb" would work for shell shock.

I wouldn't use a song during a shell shock. I'd only use that ring you get in your ears, that beep, combined with complete silence.

As far as songs, you might want to search for songs other movies used, since many movies use the same music for certain scenes.

And if that doesn't work, or isn't allowed, I'd go more along the line of classical music.

Have you seen Apocalypse Now?

Use the sound where its all in slowmo and you can hear the choppers blades going round. :)
