Signature Pictures

It has recently been brought to my attention that some users are abusing their signatures. We have given a lot of space for our users, but some people are obviously taking advantage of our trust.

I see people with signatures that fill up entire pages, these users post 1 line posts but their damn signature picture wastes so many resources, causing the database to be cluttered with these huge pictures every time they post and it takes years for these threads to load up.

If you think your signature picture is a problem then please change it, by the time you hear something from me, I will have either gone around changing it myself. If this problem persists I will need to set a limit, a limit which will not be so liberal.

k, I halfed the file size of it. And reduced the size in total of about 100 pixels. I hope all members do the same. My sig banner is 123k. And it still loooks good. So there is no excuse for all of the banners to be able to do the same or better.

The obvious option is to remove the image tag option from signatures all together. (Everyone in unison says: "remove the image tag option from signatures." (whoa sorry. Airplane! flashback)) I've never understood why people need that anyway. Of course, be on the lookout for long winded sigs then.
Anyway, I've maintained my share of message boards and I've never had even nearly as much traffic as you all have. I don't know how you handle it without tossing people off the forums left and right. Then again maybe I'm just a huge jerk.

LOL mallaLubba, your just a huge jerk:D:D J/K The banners are not necesaary it's true, but it is another way for one to establish individaulity as it is very importnat to people. I know it is to me. That's part of what makes us human.

I agree. Many of the newbies are sporting banners hitting 200 pixels high. Since the limit is 140 high, what kind of leeway should be given?
I mean, a banner 150 and even 160 isn;t that bad. But multiple banners all hitting 200 makes a page full of pics instead of content of the threads.

I remember one that took up half a page. Meaning if he posted twice, without putting any content into his post, two would fill page 1.

None of mine have violated the size code, but some people (i.e. 12ecoil and zoticus) I've seen with banners that are WAY too tall.

I remember when 1 spammer's banner was a pict of the eifel tower and it took me a while to scroll down it once... he made about 10 threads and replied to like everything it was SOOOO annoying....
