Reputation, or simply "rep", is a forum system that the TAO forums use. Some people are a little shakey on the subject. I find that many people say: "Rep doesn't matter!" However, the fact that people would listen to someone with 11 rep boxes more than a two red box person (see below), slightly disproves that.
The Reputation System
1)Once you join the forums you begin with 10 reputation.
2)You can also give reputation, positive or negative. The more reputation you have, the more reputation they receive whether it's good or bad.
3)You start with one green box. If your reputation drops below 0, it becomes a red box. -100 means 2 red. -200 means 3 red and so on. You can do the same with green. However, after your fifth reputation box, you can receive brighter ones. You need 200 reputation for every one of these. The same may happend with red boxes. If though you have exactly 0 reputation, you get a blue(ish) box, you cannot get more than one of these.
4) If you hold your mouse over your (or any other's) reputation boxes, there is a little caption. When you begin, "You are on a distinguished road", and possibly you can work your way up to immortality (Jeffery, Urania, Wack-Head).
5) Giving out reputation is pointless until you have 50 posts because you will give out a neutral box, 0 rep.
6) Sign your reps. Say something then -<name>
What Does It Mean?
Good reputation simply means people like your posts, or you. Someones though pointless reputation is given out, it doesn't really matter though. Just today I got a pos rep saying: "I hate your avatar sorry =(" oddly enough it was a positive reputation.
If people find you've made a good, well written, well thought out thread, there's bound to be some positives.
If uou make some pointless thread that is a waste of people's time, negatives will come.
Giving Out Reputation
Pointless reps are well....pointless.
1) Give rep for hard work
2) Give rep for something funny
3) Give rep if you know the person through the game (Yeah, that's okay)
4) Give rep for a well organized tourny perhaps
5) Give rep for something that took a lot of thought
6) Give rep for a good unit in CAU
Now it's negging time...
1) Neg for a pointless thread
2) Neg for coarse/offensive language (if you really hate that stuff)
3) Neg for spam
4) And if you're reeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaally compulsive, if someone does this: y cant i do that, cuz I reely wana! Horrid grammar, sure.
5) Neg for flaming when not necesary
Now that, is reputation.
