First of all, this is my first thread in a VERY long time so it might be a little unorganized

Secondly, the suggestion might be a little extreme

This idea came up when me and Vision were talking about how screwed up the rep system was. So then i suggested that some rep could be traded in for some prizes or maybe sustaining a gold account for a certain amount of time. This way people will post smarter and not spam up threads. It is also a way so the rep system is not completely useless and just fun squares to look at and rankings in the member list.

As a closing statement, I'd like to say i know this is a bit extreme!

Then the rep system becomses prominant, biased, and everyone would be sending negs to one another just to get the best prize. That's a terrible suggestion. Rep is bad enough as it is.

Within a week, different cliches will form rep gangs. These gangs will pos rep each other, and neg rep other rep gangs. They will show the world their gang colors via changing the text color in their posts. Gangs could mark their territory by spamming up certain boards with threads entitled: "Gang XXX is the best!". Occasionally, two gangs will get into a turf war, where they constantly neg each other until one gang cedes the board. Members could even create secret call names, so when they discuss members of their gang on the boards, only their gang members know who they are talking about.

Yes, I do see the problems there. That's why Gooser said it might be a bit extreme. To sustain a gold account, you should have a certain rep level. Obviously the account won't be sustained permanently, but as long as you get pos rep, you can keep the gold for a period. Even if they ask for rep, you can neg them. You do have the power to do that. This might not happen though. Remember, it's a s-u-g-g-e-s-t-i-o-n.

People would gain rep in an unfair way (people repping them cause they're friends, not good posts), and thus gain extra stuff for having a lot of friends.

Also, why should Bills / sergiy give you guys any money for what the rest of us think?

Rep is a meaningless system openly abused.

There is no way in hell it should EVER be rewarded with anything besides contempt.

Without doubt, this is the silliest concept I've seen suggested in a loooong time. Maybe silliest ever, and that's quite an accomplishment. Not "haha" silly either.
