Hornet and Expect Death's All around Team Tourney
http://img93.imageshack.us/img93/5691/talbadge24tr.png
TAL certified. Points will be determined when sign-ups are finished.
Basic Description
There will be teams of 4. There will be 10 teams. Everything is selected at random, including teams, which teams play each other, and which team member plays a rival team member from the opposing team. There will be five rounds total. The rounds will be scored on the basis of the winning of the members and the leaders.
Full Description.
1. Team members
1.1. There will be 4 members per team.
1.2. The members of each team will be chosen at random.
2. Choosing your leader
2.1. You may not vote for yourself.
2.2. If there is a tie in voting for your leader:
2.2.a. Tie: 2v2
If there's a tie between two people, google fight decides who becomes the leader!
2.2.b. Tie: 1v1v1v1
All members vote for someone different (that is not themselves). In this situation, you may either a) re-vote or b) have google fight decide your leader.
2.3. All voting will be done VIA PMing HorNeT. Anything done outside of this VERY SPECIFIC way of voting for your leader will not be counted.
3. Choosing your Team Name
No voting required unless requested. I hope you can come up with this on your own. If Not, HorNeT Will choose for you (Most likely the first letter of each persons name.) Team name chosen after leader is voted for.
4. Playing
4.1. Teams will be assigned to each other to play randomly.
4.2. Each member of the team will play one member of the assigned opponents team. They will be selected at random, also.
4.3. Game type will also be selected at random. (Game types: Freestyle, Gray, Turtle; Alpha Rules)
4.4. Leaders always play each other.
4.5. Leader game style will also be randomized.
Round 1 Regular, single elimination.
Round 2 5 team round robin.
Round 3 Three teams will be left at this point. The three teams will have to play the two other remaining teams. This round will last for two weeks. Team with least amount of points it out.
Round 4 Finals. Remaining two teams play each other for title as winner.
Round Robin Example
Teams - 1v2, 2v3, 3v1
5. Scoring
5.1. Leader win: 2 points of the teams accumulated score.
5.2. Member win: 1 of the teams accumulated score.
5.3. No show = Loss. NO SUBS.
5.4. Loss: 0 points of the teams score.
5.5. Each team has the potential to win 5 points.
This tournament is only for members with access to the Revelations Server.
Screen shots will be needed if both players do not agree on winner.
Start Date.
-Signups will close June 3rd at midnight.
-Brackets will be posted June 5th and the Tournament will start immediately.

Your percents don't work out now. You could make the leader 40% and the players 15% but that's a lot of weight on the leader game.

hey dude why don't u just do it like best 3 out of 5. there are 5 players so your team must win 3 games to adv. or u can do it how mith did it.

Yea, I forgot to change the precentages. Thanks Geeky. I made the percentages 17.5 and 30. I don't want the leader game to be so crutial.
Bird: Because with the leaders having the highest percentage it makes the teams be careful with who they pick as their leader. It makes it more strategical.

If you think about it, having the leader at 30% and players at 17.5% makes no sense. You still have to win 3 games regardless to get over 50%.
If your leader wins, then 30 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 65
If your leader loses, then 17.5 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 52.5
What I am trying to point out is that with the current values, the extra points for the leader game are irrelevant. Regardless, one team must win 3 games and the leader game is no more or less significant than the other games.
plusminus

forget percentages, have the leader game worth 2 points (or 2.5?) and the others worth 1.

that was the way i looked at it. i was just about to post this, but i'm glad someone else agrees with me about this. i think u should just go away with the % and just do it by wins.
forget percentages, have the leader game worth 2 points and the others worth 1.
that would be a problem. if one team wins the lead game and one other game and the other team wins the other 3 games then they will me tied and then they will have to play a tie breaker even though one team won 3 games ( which should be the winner) and the other team just won 2 games ( which should be the loser).

Alright guys, I'll change it to points.
From now on Each member win = 1 point and leader wins = 2
Team with most points after all of the games have been played will move onto next round.
Sound good?

there is a problem read my last edit on my last post on here and u will see it.
HorNeT
05-28-2006, 08:59 PM
Ah, I see what you're saying.
Why not just keep the percents?
If your leader wins, then 30 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 65
If your leader loses, then 17.5 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 52.5
You have six games in there. There are only five games total.
Possible outcomes:
30 + 17.5 + 17.5 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 100
30 + 17.5 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 82.5
30 + 17.5 + 17.5 = 65
30 + 17.5 = 47.5
Oh, I see what you all are trying to say now. Whether you win the leader game or not, doesn't matter. You just have to win three games.
Let me think this though for a second.
the bird
05-28-2006, 09:03 PM
either way u will need 3 wins to win. so why not u just do 3 wins to adv.
HorNeT
05-28-2006, 09:06 PM
The way I had it with the 8 people teams worked out perfectly. I had to make the teams smaller, so the percents went out of whack. I'm trying to put some emphasis on the leader games. I'm trying to make the tourney more strategical, instead of a regular team tourney.
HorNeT

I think randomizing everything could be pretty frustrating. I'm a good grey player but not a great turtler. So what if I got put up against bludhoundz, who, as I'm told, is a great turtler but only a mediocre grey player. Then it would kind of be luck of the draw, not really dependent on who's really better. Also, what if I, someone who isn't really a great player, lucked out and ended up teamed with allstar and monkus and all sorts of other great players and lucked out and ended up getting to play my strongest type of game (grey) and then won the tournament. It's kind of just luck isn't it by making everything random? I don't think that makes much sense. Everyone complains about bad luck with blocking and everything so it seems like a tournament designed to have the most possible opportunities for luck to be more important than skill will be a tournament with a whole lot of fighting and complaining.

Maybe have it 2 points for leader game and 1 point for other games, however it could be FIRST TO 3 POINTS. Therefor you would have your best players go first.
If your leader loses, then your next 3 players must win to win.
If your leader wins then you only need to win another one game out of the next 3 to advance.
Just an idea. However it would mean that the lower players and especially the last player would probably not get a game so that kinda sucks. I dunno
Another idea would be using teams of 4 with 2 points for leader games and 1 point all other games. That would work

Again, I was perfectly civil in my first post, the post that led to you telling me to go away, something you defend on the grounds of being annoying.
If you can't stand anyone disagreeing with you, you'll have a rough time as a tournament leader, especially with one such as this which could have a lot of whining.

If you think that I'm going to cut you some slack after your uncalled for rudeness, you're wrong. Be a man and admit you were wrong or be a man and defend what you've said. Here's your chance to show you have the maturity to lead a tournament.
By the way, believe it or not I don't have it out for you or anything and I'm not doing this to make your life miserable. I just don't like letting people slide when I think they're out of line. In my town we take responsibility for our actions and the world would be a better place if the rest of the world was like that. *cue superhero music*

That wasnt hypocritical at all.
No, it isn't. To have it out for someone is to do something with the intent of irritating them (or worse). To not let people slide when they don't want to take responsibility for what they have said or done is completely different. My intent, as I said, isn't to bug him.
You came in pointing out the obivious.
Then tell me you've already considered all that and you don't care about those objections instead of telling me I have no right to post here because I don't want to sign up. And perhaps everything I said IS obvious but I don't think it's so obvious that everyone in this thread consciously considered it all. In my experience, what seems obvious to some goes completely unnoticed by many others. Such is the sadness of the world these days.
I told you that this is an all around tourney,
*Points to title of the thread* And that wasn't obvious? If I don't have the right to point out the obvious (or what is allegedly obvious according to you) then why do you?
and if you thought it was going to be frustrating, you shouldn't sign-up and complain.
Why shouldn't I complain just because I don't feel like signing up? My objection is a reasonable one and I've seen plenty of other tournaments that were objected to without the objector being told to go away and mind their own business. There's a whole discussion going on (or there was) about the point system for the leader. Someone, powza I think, pointed out that there was a flaw in your system and surprise of surprises, you didn't flame him for it. There's nothing wrong with what I did. The problem is with your reaction to it.
Edit By the way, what powza (or whoever noticed the point system problem) said was obvious to anyone that can do simple math. But I didn't notice it because I didn't bother to add it up. Some people simply don't think, sometimes because they can't and sometimes because they don't care to, and then miss what would be obvious with a second's thought.
Kudos to you for defending yourself (or trying to) instead of sticking to the "I don't want to talk to you" thing.

Doesnt matter what your intent it; you are bugging him. Knowing that, you're "out to get him."
Stop wasting Hornets time and spamming his thread. He did nothing wrong to you besides call you annoying. Which is an opinion he's entitled too. Get over it, and get over yourself.

Doesnt matter what your intent it;
That's the first place you're wrong. Intent is everything. Your intent is something along the lines of either defending your friend or trying to shoo away someone that is getting on your nerves. I assume your intent is not to piss me off or anything (and by the way you haven't), so I am not angry at all with you for trying to get rid of me. Your logic is flawed but at least you're trying to use it and your INTENT is (I assume) noble.
you are bugging him. Knowing that, you're "out to get him."
People are too sensitive. The fact that he's too sensitive to respond appropriately to criticism does not mean it is wrong to criticize him and expect him to act like a man instead of a child. And no, just because he isn't happy that I'm posting does not mean that I'm out to get him.
Stop wasting Hornets time and spamming his thread.
This wouldn't have been a waste of anyone's time if he had been a man in the first place.
Also, what I'm doing isn't spamming. Unless you have a different definition of spamming than I do I suppose. There's nothing wrong with what I'm doing right now. I understand that most people are fine with letting people not take responsibility for their actions but that's their (or perhaps your) problem, not mine.
He did nothing wrong to you besides call you annoying.
He responded quite rudely to my initial post, which was perfectly civil. Not a criminal offense but nonetheless it was innappropriate and I think people in general should have to own what they say, as well as the consequences of what they say.
Which is an opinion he's entitled too. Get over it, and get over yourself.
I never said he wasn't entitled to his opinion. But since when am I not entitled to mine?

You think you are incredibly cool breaking down posts like that, dont you?
1. Your intent is fine. But he doesnt care. And he did nothing wrong.
2. 'People are too sensitive' is a great argument. This isnt a court. He responded how he wanted to. As I said before: Get over it.
3. It is spamming. It has nothing to do with the thread. It has nothing to to with the tourney. You're just a peeved little bugger. Again, get over it. And yes, I'm spamming his thread as well, but I have the common sense to know it. And I will apologise to Hornet when I am done.
4. Since when is it your place to deal out such "consequences?" Nobody else deems it inappropriate besides you. And you're entitled to your own opinion, yes. But dont expect it to be Gods word.
5. You havent really be stating your opinion much. Just badgering him.
Like I said, get off your throne. Nobody think's your as cool as you do. I guess thats what immaturity does.

Just because I think I've made my point, I'll stop posting on this thread now. If anyone wants to continue the discussion or comment on it through private messages, I'd be happy to do continue. But this isn't supposed to be an arguing thread, it's supposed to be for a tournament. I didn't expect it to turn into a lengthy thing when I initially complained and then complained about Hornet's response. I was expecting a little more maturity. I think I've said enough.
To meat.eater, thanks for arguing and not saying "your momma.":)
To Hornet, no offense meant and there never was. Again, my intent was never to annoy you and I don't hold any hard feelings. I hope your tournament is successful and even more, I hope you do a great job running it.
Peace.
Edit sigh, written before I saw meat's post. I'll PM you meat.

Round 2 Regular, single elimination.

I would sign up for sure :] hornet ftw!
I'd play.
I like the random-ness of it. Rather then a few people who dominate in their selective styles grouping together and claiming the title before it starts.
With this, I think there is a lot better chance for some upsets, which are always fun.
