Ok, where I work we do a tremendous amount of business over the internet (actually, it is another part of the company my boss owns, run inthe same office as the company I manage)
Well, since we use VOIP for the 5 business lines and 12 numbers, my boss gets irrate whenever the cable is out for more than a second or two.
So he asked me to investigate pricing to drop a T1 or better into the office.
What is truly amazing is the variety of pricing I have gotten so far from customer inquiries to T1 providers. Anything from $200 up to $1000 a month for a dedicated line, some including router some not.
The price for dropping a T3 line starts at a much higher rate, generally $2500 and up.
But what is really amazing is how many of these companies have an advertized "lowest price" who then are perfectly willing to lower the price when you mention how your shopping around.
Another example of thise was last year. The non-profit I help with had Road Runner cable internet for a year, and at the end of the year we mentioned possibly going with a DSL offer.
Now, the original pricing of the business class was $149 a month. The non-profit got it at $99 for that first year. When we mentioned moving, the price was negotiated down to $48 a month.
Where I live right now, we have Road Runner packaged with VOIP, so the landlord pays like $80 a month. How much do you guys pay, and have any of you ever tried to negotiate the price down?
