We will take as long as necessary. Make sure you can make the commitment. That said, online risk goes quicker because there is no physical dicerolling, units can be placed just by clicking, etc.

So far, only 2 people have taken down Realist! Myself and Serge! If you think you have the guts and skill, some check us out.

Ridiculous?! That's how the game should be played.
How does it make it luck dependent? It causes people to carefully choose when and what to attack. Taking continents and the use of your cards will have a lot more impact, especially when you use your cards.
It does become a lot slower, but there's nothing wrong with slow.

I've seen a lot of different versions of risk, including two from foreign countries, but I've never seen one in which you actually have to make the choice between place and attack. Is that really how they play in Netherlands?
How does it make it luck dependent?
Because single troops matter so much more...if your 4 troop army can't kill the one troop army, you have to wait 2 turns just to try again. It thus magnifies the effect of luck. Alternatively, a good startup and good early cards will give you too easily an advantage in the early continent race....
It causes people to carefully choose when and what to attack.
If you don't carefully choose when and what to attack in the normal game you will do badly anyways...thre is no difference here.
Taking continents and the use of your cards will have a lot more impact, especially when you use your cards.
It does become a lot slower, but there's nothing wrong with slow.
Yes there is. Slowness due to careful strategizing is one thing, but this slowness offers no real strategic improvements while slowing down the game significantly.

Not just 1 troop armies matter more, every army matters more. Which will come back in the next point.
If you don't carefully choose when and what to attack in the normal game you will do badly anyways...thre is no difference here.
Of course it's not random now, but there is definitely a difference. Because troops matter more, you'll not just try something without being rather secure about it, especially considering the luck factor. You'll only try something if you're quite sure you'll succeed. This will ask for better strategies.
Yes there is. Slowness due to careful strategizing is one thing, but this slowness offers no real strategic improvements while slowing down the game significantly.
Yes it does, since better strategies are necessary thus more time needs to be taken to create these strategies.

This is the equivilant of the don't-complain-about-luck-in-tao-since-you-should-never-make-a-witch-side-shot-anyways-since-she-might-block-and-then-you're-screwed argument. A player who takes intelligent risks--that he or she is NOT sure about--will do better overall than a player who is overcautious. This is true in the stock market, this is true in Risk, and this is true in life in general.
With that in mind, the question to ask of a game like Risk is, how much does victory in any given game depend on getting lucky in your risks? If the luck factor is too high the game loses strategic interest. Making every roll more relevent increases luck factor.
Get on Risk.
I'm at work.

I'm playing Risk right now, so I don't have much time. But your comparison is all wrong. I never said we could negate all the luck, like you are making it out to be.
We just take our time to make actual strategies so we can actually make the intelligent risks you are talking about, not like the game is played right now, which is attacking 80% of the time.
You should really try it sometimes.
Edit: And I really hate that friggin' god damn fucking timer. No time for mass attack. God damn it!! Ran out again!

It takes some getting used to.
Using enter helps - clicking it for "Ok" for moving troops after attacking. Speeds up the process.
Basically, during your move, you have to be constantly moving, doing something.
Like I said, takes getting used to.

You know I had that game in the bag! The guy who I was destroying ultimately won because I got kicked.
It's ridiculous. Risk is a strategy game, thus you need strategy. This is just pointless attacking, attacking and attacking. You're actually being stupid if you don't attack each turn. That's ridiculous.
I'll still play, though. I now just have a reason to complain when I lose.
Edit: Some moron just attacked my 21 with his 20, and won with 7. This is the kind of bullshit I'm talking about. This would hardly ever happen in a true Risk game, because your armies would be too valuable to gamble with like that. Now you can easily build up 21 again, and attack randomly.
Seriously, xyx, just try our version some time.

I can't. Despite the fact that this is a Dutch-created game and around 20% of the players are Dutch, I have not found a single game with that setting unclicked in all my history on Dominate. Hmm, I wonder why such a major strategic aspect of the game would be so unpopular.
I don't know anyone who would play like that in real life either. I doubt any of my Risk-loving peers have ever even heard of such a rule.

I observed Losty play such a game just yesterday, maybe your knowledge of Dominate is not so extensive as you'd like to believe.
Why people won't play too much with this version is because it's over the internet, and because it's slower. People, when playing on the internet, don't want to spend a few hours playing Risk. I still firmly believe Risk should be played like this, though.
Plus, I never found something the "normal" players didn't like to be negative.

He's not a moron, that was a good play. Someone did all the math with a computer program, google search "risk board game dice odds" if you care, and in a 3 vs. 2 battle, the odds are:
Attacker wins both: (37.17 %)
Both win one: (33.58 %)
Defender wins both: (29.26 %)
The attacker has the advantage, and by hitting you before you hit him, he made a good play. He also probably broke up a continent and kept you from getting valuable reinforcments.
The rest of the results:
Attacker: one die; Defender: one die:
Attacker wins (41.67 %)
Defender wins (58.33 %)
Attacker: two dice; Defender: one die:
Attacker wins (57.87 %)
Defender wins (42.13 %)
Attacker: three dice; Defender: one die:
Attacker wins (65.97 %)
Defender wins (34.03 %)
Attacker: one die; Defender: two dice:
Attacker wins (25.46 %)
Defender wins (74.54 %)
Attacker: two dice; Defender: two dice:
Attacker wins both: (22.76 %)
Both win one: (32.41 %)
Defender wins both: (44.83 %)
Attacker: three dice; Defender: two dice:
Attacker wins both: (37.17 %)
Both win one: (33.58 %)
Defender wins both: (29.26 %)

The game is automatic.. if the attacker decides to do "do or die" its 3 on 2 until you have one unit.. the advantage %wise is that you will always increase your changes as and attack with the 3 dice.

I didn't actually know this thread existed, but I've been playing on dominate game on pretty much a daily basis for a few months now. Username: Jaxrule If you play with me, please just tell me who you are, and I'm sure we'll both do well :)
I think I've played you before. I started a new account, won my first two games, and I'm already Level 2 with like 1675 stats. :p Anyone up for a game now?
Also: My AIM is MantisHoopster11 for anyone who wants to make an alliance. :)
