View Full Version : Wasting Time, Such a Cunning Strategy...

I've only been playing a few weeks and have had more than one person attempt to beat me by wasting my time. The time allowed to end your turn is way too long! I've even had people tell me they were going to "waste my time" because I didn't agree to draw game with them. To me this is the only real flaw in the game that I have seen. There should be a way to dictate how long the turns will be, or to otherwise lower the time allotted!
I love strategy games, and I think that wasting someone's time is a weak way to gain a win. Maybe in real-life war it's a great tactic, but this game is on the internet and makes money and is therefore a business. I think it sucks that someone can take that much time to make a decision, and for that reason I almost didn't go gold. If too many more players keep doing this to me, I don't see the point of paying for the game. After all, I can just turtle and waste time and rise to 1300-1400, if I were so inclined, for free.
Perhaps that is an exagerration, but as I said, I haven't been playing for very long, and some greys seem to be doing it.
Anyhow, I don't think the game should turn into speed chess, but the turns should definately end sooner overall. When someone does something like attack or heal, the timer should speed up so they don't have all day to decide if they want to move or change direction.
Come to think of it, why can units that have no blocking ability even change direction in the first place? Is damage affected in some way I don't know about?

Okay, very nice thread. Your right the time limit should be reduced.. but i hate stallers.

Just battle people you think are honorable enough to not stall. After a while, you'll get used to the stalling (if you keep playing alot of stallers). I do agree, though, the time for your turn should be reduced just a bit.

Shit, i was on a new gold and no golds would play so i put my avy on flr 7 and asked "Golds flr 7" then Ducky Doo Doo jumped me, and is stalling.

Last time I battled ducky doodoo (grey vs grey), he didn't stall. He's a good player for being such a dumbass, but I still beat him.

I've had people waste time because I wouldn't let them win sometimes, but they think if they waste time, I might surrender..Once I made someone really mad during a drop battle, and they started to waste time, and I had to go so I just surrendered....But yeah, the time limit should be lower.

Yes, stallers are annoying, but i hardly agree that the time should be lowered. In quite a few of my turtle games i take almost the whole turn every turn planning and thinking about my move/possible moves. The same is true for my freestyle(because i usually don't know what to do, lol), but less often.

I agree with Lospollos.
This is why normally I only play games when I have a lot of time to do so, when I look for stat, or for a win.:)

Its all about choosing your battles, If you choose to just leave yourself open to be jumped this may be the turnout.

the time for each turn reduces as you lose units. if you have 1 unit left you have less time than when you had 10 units. anyone whos wasting time has effectively given up. pwn him. the faster you kill. less time wasteable.

I don't believe that's true anymore.
Anyway, take a s/s of someone saying they're going to stall because you won't draw, and send it to a moderator. They can be banned for that.
The time itself is absolutely fine. I've used the entire turn's length thinking about a move. However, people who take advantage of that are being unfair.

Yah, whenever I have a 50/50 move to decide, it takes a while to find a coin, ask my opponent heads or tails, and then flip it.
Edit*-I also needed teh full time against monkus a while ago, so I could bang my head against the table a few times.

I sometimes also use the whole time limit thinking of a move. I have faced stallers before, what I have found effective is if they say they will stall, just say go ahead I have all day, and some of them are like whatever and stop. Also most of the stallers that I have faced I can outlast them because when stalling, you soon get very bored. Anyway, hope this helps.

The screenshot idea is a good idea, however if they say nothing and just take forever every turn, screenshots won't help.
Is there any chance of being able to change game settings prior to actually accepting the battle? Why not have differnt match types?

Is this a suggestion or really currently in the game? If it is not how the game currently works it should be. Even just a 5% reduction per peice lost would get the message out that you gotta get a move on. It would be easier than more elaborate fixes.
I agree, I hate time wasters.

General Rules:
1.5: The time limit per turn ranges from 1 to 2 minutes depending on the number of units remaining.
I'd guess this is where you've seen it then;)

Meh, i somewhat agree with this. There should be a way to prevent this, like if no move is made at some point in there turn, it should surrender them.
Man, i hate when people stall me, i allway wind up getting d/c.

If you are talking about ppl takinng a lot of time and then just pass, they can easily just move a piece to an adjacent spot.
Like many have said, there are many times in a game where you do need to think for the whole time slot. So it's definitely not too long. What I do against obvious stallers is just play their own games. When they say they are stalling or when it becomes obvious, I just go browse the forum. When I hear they finished their turn, I wait a while before making mine before going back to doing other stuff on my computer. Like Darkness said, it's boring for them and usually they just leave after few turns.

more importantly stallers give you full rein to play your game. be patient and pwn 'em. it takes as long as your efficiency at killing off units.
