Because if a_dran jumped Knight it would mean that a_dran purposly played a grey account knowing he himself had gold units, making it an unfair advantage. If this is the case, I'm with Knight on this one, because that would be a pretty shady way to win/get stats.

Forest Archer: I have been playing this for a very long time and if you look at any of my other posts, they are usually about reporting cheaters. I don't like cheating (or the new blocking system, but that's another story altogether) and do what I can to report cheaters and to warn other greys so that they are aware that he is lurking and waiting to trick them. I see you joined the forums in June of '05... I have been on here for a year prior to that. I do not make many posts, but the ones i do make are usually informative (teaching someone how to play or reporting a cheater).

I was merely making it known so that maybe the leader of AL could get rid of some of the trash in the clan. When I used to run my clan (S.O.G.) I'm not sure how it was back in '04 since came here in July '05, but I don't think he intentionally cancelled his account to trick greys.

When my account was cancelled, it stayed gold until the wipe happened, and then went grey after the wipe. So, I had a grey account with gold units for a month when my account was cancelled a month before that.

(I'm not sure if that's correct though, since I'm going with what happened to my account, which ended up having around 3 free months of gold status and around 3 months of grey status without being wiped.)

But the wipe has just happened and he cancelled immediately afterwards.

Another piece of advice, no one cares how long you've been playing, and simply dismissing someone's point of view because they haven't been here for 2 years makes you look arrogant. I have been playing TAO a long time before my join date says, but go ahead, keep judging a book by it's cover.

As Spirit Monger said, canceling a gold does not make it go grey automatically. More often then not, the gold that is canceled stays gold for the whole month that it was paid for, and goes grey when the next payment is not given. Thus, it is more likely that he canceled his gold a month before the incident, and it just went grey recently.

You've dismissed people for a number of reasons on this one, so I'm going to play all my aces so you can't dismiss me. I've been here since the start of the game, the join date of this particular forum acount is meaningless. I'm also a grey, and have played as a grey for the extent of my stay here (almost always dropless). So, I can surely empathize when you unwittingly get into a match against someone with a massive advantage. It sucks, it's annoying, it's dishonorable, but unfotunately for us it's not against the rules.

Now, speaking as a mod I will confirm what everyone else said: this was not a matter of degolding directly after a whipe for deception, but rather a coincidental timing of a degolding. Such a process ONLY happens after the paid time period for an account has expired. In other words: if an account is canceled an hour after it's golded, it will remain gold for one month before it is degolded - at which time any subsequent whipe will remove the account completely.

There is no way to time such a deceptive measure, short of premeditated conspiracies with sergiy himself. The players don't know exactly when whipes occur. Mods generally don't know exactly when whipes occur, and even sergiy himself doesn't plan out the exact date months in advance. This was a coincidence, and nothing more. There are 30-90 days between wipes, and TAO has many more then 90 accounts, meaning it's statistically probable that at least 1 account will have their payment date within a few days of a wipe.

It sucks, he's a noob for grey fishing, but the above is the best description of the events, from my point of view in this matter.

Totally understand and agree with all of your points. I was de-golded 2 days after I cancelled and remained that way until the next wipe... so in my experience, It seemed as if you cancel after being gold and it happens in the next 2 days and then you have gold peices as grey until the next wipe...

Here's what I am going to do, I am going to try it...

I am going to gold an account and then cancel it the next day and see how long it takes and report my findings here...

I can see from your point of view what would lead you to believe a cancellation brings about degolding within a few days, and makes your claim legit (although slightly misguided). All in all, it's clear there was just a misunderstanding, so everything's well in the end, and he's still a noob for grey fishing.

The blocking system hasn't changed. The only things that changed were the addition of the blocking counter (which does nothing for those who knew the blocking system save to serve as an equalizer against those who didn't) and to fix a glitch that allowed units to have a better chance to block from the side than from the front.

Also, as uniquinous pointed out rather eloquently, you can't predict the wipe times and co-ordinate them with cancellation times, short of conspiring with sergiy to do so beforehand. And if that was possible, I'd try. Do you know how great it would be to have a free month of gold units? $5 in the pocket right there.
