Ive been wondering...alot of people decide to advertise on these forums and sometimes they are flamed and sometimes they are not. Most are flamed but when games like tankball and risk online were posted here, they were not flamed. I may be nub for asking this but oh well, so what exactly is the rule on advertising here.

Post cool, fun things, then you don't get flamed.

Post stupid things, get flamed.

But I thought the whole rule was dont advertise at all...advertising causes people to go to other games, wasnt that the whole point of not allowing advertising. ;)

I once advertised some forums with a thread and it was promptly closed and I was asked not to do it again... I think that telling the community of a game you just found might be allowed but advertising and siphoning off the TAO community is not allowed...

I am not sure though... It would be nice to have a staff member come and clairify this...

Tank Ball was being discussed so heavily in Random Discussion Thread, that no other discussions could be held. In the end it became its own thread.

Personal opinion, but I think if the interest level is very high it should be seperated into another thread; otherwise it should be briefly mentioned in the Random Discussion Thread.

I hav no clue what you're talking about, but its dominated the last few pages of RDT far too much!! Its not random damnit!

me thinks it needs it's own thread

Page four of the thread TANK BALL!
As Wizzy' (He whom posses butiful eyes) has pointed out, I seem to know a lot.

I don't think it is really advertisment when people post threads about a fun game. They are pretty much just sharing a game that they enjoy playing, they aren't advertising the site.

The difference is simple:

Advertizing a commercial site with intent to generate business is not allowed.
Advertizing of non-business by one post accounts are also usually closed.

Long standing members showing a fun game or site, without intent to generate income for self, is usually allowed.

Most spamvertizers work off referal links or for the site itself, and their links are meant to generate business for said site. The same is not always true of long standing members.

Think of it this way:
A friend you've known for years calls you up and asks if you want to go to Blah Blah, a kickass restaurant.
A stranger you've never met that works at Blah Blah calls you up and asks if you want to go to Blah Blah, a kickass restaurant.

One is simply wanting to share with you, one is wanting to make money off you.

The one with a Harley, a hot girlfriend, and a B cup :p

If TAO can post their annoying sound advertisement of the month, people who pay should be able to post whatever they please, so we can flame them all.:*diablo:

The real rule is to not be a noob to the boards, and have enough of the "vast herds" (say it fast :D) here in awe that they won't dare naysay you. (no offense)

Realistically, a bunch of the "vets" of the boards could start a thread about runescape love and everyone would fall into line.

It's not what you have to say or show, it's who you are.
