It's time we improved the forum games from "how do you like your eggs" and "rate the noob in the mirror".

MAFIA - a game of deception, trickery, and the shameless stoning of innocent bystandards.

Traditionally the game's players are comprised of civilians, cops, and mafia members. For the purposes of TAO, we will be revising them as users, mods, and hackers.

The Story: The users in a game of TAO Mafia are members of a small online community which is being terrorized by hackers. During the night, the hackers cause chaos on the servers, hijacking a law-abiding user as their victim, and ultimately getting them deleted. During the day, the users gather together, seeking justice, and vote to convict one of their number of secretly being a member of the hackers , and getting them deleted.

The Objective: The mod and users need to figure out who the hackers are and delete them before it's too late. The hackers however need to try their best to avoid capture and deletion, and instead try to delete all the users and mods .

The catch: no one knows the role of any other player.

The order of events and rules:
-Anyone wanting to play must send me a PM (this thread will be have a LOT of information on it once the game starts, so PM me your entrance and check back on this post for updates).
-Once all are gathered, each player will be PMed their role: mod , user , hacker. Each one is very important and entertaining to play. The rules for each will be explained in the PM and here
-I will present a game-opening post, announcing the threat of the incoming hackers . "Night" will fall, and I will ask the hackers to select a user victim via PM. That person is then out of the game. I will then ask the mod character who they would like to know about. The mod will select any player, and be told whether s/he is a hacker or normal user .
-The "Day" will arive, the deleted user will be anounced, and the remaining alive players all discuss who they think did it. All remaining players will reach a general concensus as to who they want to delete, and upon said deletion, be told whether that player was an innocent user or a 1337 hax.

This would conclude one round of the game, and it continues back to night, where the hackers strike again, and the mod comes a little closer to figuring out who did it. The mod may reveal him/herself at any time, but no other player has any reason to believe him. Usually if the mod reveals him/herself too soon, the hackers will just kill him off the next night. This is a game of lying and deceit (so some of you will be pretty good at it already) for the hackers, and cunning and perception for the users and mods.

The game ends if the innocents delete all the hackers, or when the hackers kill enough innocent players so that they can no longer be overpowered by them (example: 3 hackers and 3 innocents means the hackers can’t be voted to death as there is no majority on the good side).

Guardian Angel tends to make the game much more drawn out then it needs to be, and as I'm assuming our attention spans aren't that long, I'm trying to cut back on unnecessary savings. While I do agree that a lot of this is reading people's faces, you can still ascertain motive from accusations. Either way, it's a test with two outcomes: 1) everyone enjoys it, or 2) it's no worse off then anything else we may be doing at the time. :)

Whenever I played, you would not find out wether the person you vote out of town was a "user" a "hacker" or a "mod." Therefore, you'd never know how many of each category remain until the end.

The start will reveal how many of each role there are, and each person's role will be revealed upon their death - this keeps things interesting, and helps players figure out what's going on. I won't give examples as I don't want to ruin any tactics. :)

Well, I've played this irl, the first person killed (who doesn't really get to play at all) gets automatic immunity for the first 2 rounds regardless of their role... we'll make an allowance for that, but try to be back here pretty quickly. If you're not back by the day after tomorrow, we'll just assume you were teh haxed.

Order of Events:
Tonight: Roles are assigned, the hackers delete, the mod gets info on someone, everything is anounced.
From that point until tomorrow night: people deliberate as to who are the hackers
Tomorrow night you all kill someone publicly, and the process repeats itself.

Duffman organised a game like this a while ago. As I recall it didn't really pan out. Started off well though.

Let the Games Begin!
Within the next few minutes you will each recieve your roles via PM. We will jump into the game in the NIGHT cycle. During this time, the hackers will decide who to delete, and the moderator will select someone to investigate. All players should take this time to PM me questions about the game if they are unsure of anything. Most people catch on pretty quickly though. As soon as I am given the delete and investigate list, you will be informed who has already been haxed, and you all may begin trying to figure out who did it.

There are in total:
20 users
3 hackers
1 moderator

If there are 3 hackers alive, they may delete 2 innocents each night.
If there are fewer then 3 hackers alive, they may only delete 1 innocent each night.

The first post of this thread will contain only the remaining players in the game, should you need the reference. The game ends if all three hackers have been found and deleted, or if the number of hackers is greater or equal to the number of remaining innocents (users plus the moderator). That gives the innocents 5 days and nights to catch the first hacker before the game ends.

It is suggested you keep the majority of your discussion restricted to this thread, though you are allowed to PM any player at any time. Keep in mind that any player may lie or decieve you in a variety of ways just to stay alive. Be careful with your trust.

If you do not recieve your role within the next 5 minutes, PM me right away

Good Morning Players!

As you can see from the first post, our hackers have struck again! Their plan went perfectly: As S_K_O_F was distracted with his motorcycle he lost track of time, AND HIS ACCOUNT AS WELL! Meanwhile, Jeffery had received and invitation to a free strip joint not too far away. He took one of his limos and drove 3 hours only to find the address he was given was nothing more then the location of S_K_O_F's garage. He found a greased up ewok instead of a lubed girl, and furiously rampaged back to his computer, which he clumsily left on. By time he got back though, he found his account had been used for massive amounts of cyber, and there was an unusual amount of porn spyware on his computer. He still can't figure out how to change his desktop from the naked picture of David Hasselhoff.

On another note, I found it incredibly entertaining to find you each accused each other and then both got deleted. I expected the hackers to bump one of you off in hopes everyone else would take down the other. heheh.

To reiterate: IF the game is played again, the first few people to get killed will be given immunity - that is to say, no one can kill them in the early rounds of the next game regardless of their role.

I know a LOT of PMing is going on between people playing (or so I've been told), but remember players, your goal here is to convince everyone else, so try to post publicly, here in this thread, if you can.

Most of the stones seemed to hone towards his head. This caused him to immediately be knocked off his feet and onto the ground. When all was said and done, Duo pelted him with one last stone right in the head just to be sure. Jeffery personally escorted phoenixofflames to hell, as another deceased user.

Meanwhile, the crowd went to gather fresh rocks. Afterall, Phoenix's blood was all over the first set, and we wouldn't want to inadvertently give someone a blood-born disease during the pelting! The crowd took careful aim this time, and launched their arsenal at LOSPOLLOS!!! The chicken scrambled around narrowly avoiding each rock, but alas! He did not see that he was nearing the edge of the cliff. Struggle as the little bird might to fly, he simply couldn't lift his delicious rotiseree ass from the fall. He fell to his feathery death amongst the jagged rocks below. He was later beer-battered over a spit-fire-grill, and found to be a notorious hacker!!!.

Congratulations dear users. You have removed one of your three threats, buying you all a little more time before defeat. Use it wisely, and remember: keep your friends close, and your noobs closer.

The community gathered again to cast out one of their own. Who did they pick!? SERGE. Unfortunately for the community members, they unwittingly walked into a trap and took out a fellow user.

The hackers should submit their victim as soon as they can.

It seems the hackers have struck again! They sprung their trap in the lobby... claiming they were Emma Watson and wanted a hot TAO stud to cyber with. Against his instincts, PUNISHMENT gave into the irresistable temptation and gladly accepted the massive amount of cyber with the Emma Watson imposter! While he left the lobby with several naked pictures of Emma (and a sticky keyboard), he was ultimately DELETED!!!

This mysterious death only leaves one question on my mind: who were the lucky ones that got to cyber with PUN?!

But before we get to the public stoning tonight, more story is revealed...

Everyone was gathered, deep in thought as to who to kill, gathering stones as they deliberated. As this was the TAO community where each adolescent boy needs to win the pissing contest with the next, a bunch of players were off to the side finding bigger and bigger rocks to pelt their victims with. The stones were getting larger and larger, and then speaker4thedead, wanting to prove how amazingly manly he was, found the largest rock around. He struggled, for a moment, trying his hardest to lift it from the ground. Someone called him a loser noob, and his rage took hold of him, allowing him to lift the small boulder high into the air over his head!

In his triumph, he lost the adrenaline rush, and the large stone came crashing down right on top of him. It seems another innocent user has brought death upon themselves.

It was a brillant struggle! The three candidates for deletion were all fighting bravely. In the end the situation turned out to involve Newgen strangling MicSpor, MicSpor was strangling the bird, and the bird was strangling Newgen. While I personally was very entertained at the idea of 3 people going down at once, it seems 1 of them had the bright idea to change tactics.

In a crazy move, MicSpor removed his tight grasp of the bird's little birdie neck and switched to Newgen instead! Overpowered by the two others, Newgen lost consciousness, and was then spit-fire-grilled, not unlike LosPollos's fate. Oh but the barbecue celebration was in error! For the players found out, in the end, poor Newgen was an innocent user. :(

EDIT: but what's this? The hackers have struck quickly tonight! It seems the barbecue marked the death of two people tonight after all! A, DUO, if you will. After the lights were down low, the hackers slipped into the tent of our dear ***Duo***. It was there they installed a keystroke logger, which later transmitted the innocent user's password to the worst of people! The hackers used his account to boost up their own, and by morning, ***Duo*** was left with 2 stats - the lowest any account has ever gotten in the history of TAO. By time Sergiy gets in on Monday, it will surely be deleted. :(
