They were right there with them the first time and the way the Jets are playing lately it is quite possible. I'd love to see Miami win just because it would mean the Patriots wouldn't make the playoffs with an 11-5 record and the Chargers could make it at 8-8 and the Cardinals team they just beat 47-7 will also make it. Hilarious really.

Oh man... Only caught the last quarter/OT, but man.... That was awesome. Bears would probably be in Detroit's position right now, if it wasn't for Forte and their special teams/ Defense... But thank god they do have those... :p
Seriously... If the Bears could find a GOOD franchise QB, and/or maybe some WRs that could make some plays, they'd have themselves some new rings... ;)

I am going Falcons.
They got one of the best young QB's in the league, i dont fell Pennington will do this much more in his career, Ryan will only continu to get better.
The Falcons have also put behind Michael Vick, the biggest achievement by far. NO other team had to overcome anything like this.
The also have Turner, who shed off the shadow of LT, and out played him all season.

Umm..
How can you not say the dolphins? 1-15 to a possible playoff birth? To being tied with last year's 16-0 Patriots in the Division?
And i don't think the browns are the biggest disappointment, I'd say the pack.

Doesn't matter,
Last year that Pats were 16-0 and the Dolphins were 1-15.
The very next year, they are tied for first in the division. That's amazing, and by far a greater achievement then the Falcons, IMO.

But I would still give it to the dolphins if i didn't think last year was a fluke.
Overall, their personnel haven't changed much. The got pennington, but they still had Ronni Brown, Porter, etc. last year, which is why I think they were fluking it up last year, and are playing to their full potential this year.
That said, I have to give it to the Falcons for reasons already stated. No team has had to overcome anything like the Michael Vick fiasco, and the Falcons made some damn good choices (Ryan, Turner), changing their overall team more than the Dolphins did.

Y'know, Pennington was sucking it up last year for the JEts, goes to the DOlphins and starts using the weapons they had the right way. Gotta give it to them. They're looking pretty damn good this season.
I can't take much more football honestly, this is twice in two days both the teams I liked ended up going into an Overtime nailbiter. That blocked FG was insane.

Yeah, why i dont think its the dolphins.
They had everyone (except Pennington) just about last year.
They have changed some stuff on hte offense, but not to where they are amzing. The Falcons are a dominate team on offense, and i dont see the Dolphins as this. I think the 1-15 was a fluke, and i dont think there are as good of a team as there record shows this year.
I feel they are a 6-10 or 7-9, that is plagued by random spurts of good and bad luck.;)

It's all consistancy. Which the Dolphins basically have around the league.
Look at from this point of the View. The Cardinals were what? 7-3 first 10 weeks of the season? But 4 of those wins came from their own division, whose records mind you are below the .300 rating. Then they ran into NFC teams around other leagues and they're barely holding onto some playoff hope. (They'll get it though...unless a late sleeper decides to come out. I didn't really pay attention to their division, just know they're leading the playoff picture for it right now)
While the Dolphins pretty much, are playing alot more variety with their games. Regardless, They're playing good football.

Yep, and the Cowboys are choking for the third year straight. This is by far worse than the playoff losses of the last 2 years, besides the obvious fact that Dallas, after all the hype, isn't even going to make the playoffs this year.
Because although Romo made critical mistakes at the end of those games, Dallas was at least in them. This isn't even close. It's a total ass-kicking.

As much as I like Favre, I think it's awesome that the Dolphins came back from a 1-15 season a year ago to go 11-5 and win the AFC East.
If Sporano doesn't win coach of the year, something is seriously wrong. He's done everything right, from the Wildcat offense to his decision to go for it on 4th and inches 10 minutes ago.
Pennington's comeback, Joey Porter and the defense playing like animals lately. I don't know how far they'll go in the playoffs, but it's a great story and an incredible accomplishment.

Well the cowboys lost, but there's always next year, right?
....Right? Maybe not for Wade Phillips. Or Jason Garrett. IMO, Wade would make a good defensive coordinator. Move him there, and hire a real head coach who demands RESPECT from his players. Terrell bitching? Tell him to suck it up! All Wade does is sit there and stutter. "Oh he's a nice guy." We don't need a nice guy, we need a winner. Was Jimmy Johnson a nice guy? No. He got uncontrollable at times, and I remember him cutting a backup runningback because he fumbled twice and committed a personal foul at the end of a season-closer that the cowboys WON by two touchdowns. No, Jimmy was winner. Jerry Jones has had his run. Time to sell the team to someone who's interested in winning. All of the talent is there. They are the most talented team in football [B]on paper.[B] Now they just need the coaches to bring it out and [I]make them a team.[I] Then, they will win at least one super bowl and possibly have another dynasty. /end rant.

Um, yeah?
Of course people are going to blame Romo. Not completely, but likely more than any other single player. He's the quarterback, and he played horribly.
So did the whole team, on both sides of the ball, but Romo is still stinging from the last-play interception in the playoffs last year, and the holding disaster the year before that.
His season was on the line today. As the quarterback, he needed to step up and play well. He did the exact opposite. He was holding the ball too long, not making the right reads, not throwing accurately and not protecting the football.
QBs often take the majority of the credit as well as the bulk of the blame. That's just how it works, and, more often than not, in my opinion, for good reason. This definitely qualifies as one of those situations, to me.
Romo was 21/39 for 183 yards, no TDs and 3 turnovers. With a performance like that, in a game this big, with the weapons he has at his disposal, I think Romo deserves to take a large portion of the blame.

Sell the team Jerry....Through all of this, I still have faith in Romo. The team does not need a better QB, or any other player. They need a leader. I think as Romo really starts to think about this, or if he doesn't that someone tells him that he needs to get serious. Did you guys ever watch Troy Aikman's face when he was playing? He was dead serious all the time, even when he was loopy as a smashed teenager after one of his concussions. Romo, I like the guy, but he's not serious, ever. When you hear him talk he's saying things like "I think we can do it," and "we'll go out there and try our best." No, what he should be saying is "We'll do it." and "We're going to beat them." You either do it, or you don't. As Yoda said, there is no try. If Romo buckles down and becomes the leader (they have a few guys that would be good leaders, but the QB is much more influential. Jason Witten, DeMarcus Ware?) then I think it will affect the entire team positively, and maybe get them playing like the potential dynasty team that they are. /end rant2

I can't believe the Pats, at 11-5, are not in the playoffs, when the Chargers at 8-8 are. Pats are every bit as talented (since we seem to like bitching about talent here) as any other team in the NFL...There's no way 11-5 isn't playoff worthy.

Browns set the nfl record this week for most consecutive courters w/o a TD.
the magic number was 22, now it is 24.
They went the last friggen 6 games of the season without an offensive Touchdown.:(
I am sure the browns would lose to the lions right now.

I don't make a joke about every one of your posts, although a strong case could be made against each of them. Our choosen football teams are arch-rivals.. and my team beat your team in a massive way. All I'm doing is throwing some friendly jabs your way.
In all honesty, I don't respect you as either a poster, or a football fan. 75% of the "facts" you throw out in this forum are wrong, and you need to be corrected constantly. KB and Blex are cowboys fans that actually bring something to the table. I hate their teams, but not their "fandom". By all rights I could write a 10 page essay on how badly Philly beat Dallas yesterday, but I didn't, I posted a funny little youtube song someone wrote.

I agree the browns wasted away alot of potential, but the packers are in their first year without Favre, and they started with a great record, and then missed the playoffs all together.

Biggest upset playoff wise has to be the cowboys/patriots/bucks. I mean going as far as they did and losing mostly cowboys/bucks. The patriots couldn't do much but hopefully lions will get a better coach fired theirs and the browns had their manager fired correct me if i'm wrong on that. At least they get decent draft spots.

They are the most talented team in football on paper.[B] Now they just need the coaches to bring it out and [I]make them a team.[I] Then, they will win at least one super bowl and possibly have another dynasty. /end rant.
P.S. This wasn't Romo's fault.

First off.. IMO AP is a better RB, alot more consistent than Westbrook even though I have seen his breakout games. But Im more concerned with Buckhalter + Westbrook combo like they did on the cowboys. Minnesota has a top run defense and a average overall Def. Ya phili's is good too and your probably thinking.. OMG WHAT BOUT WHAT THEY DO TO COWBOYS LOL WUT? Anyone could of made the cowboys do what they did, their offense was terrible. I also like T. Jackson starting at QB now, hes more of a completion guy which makes him less susceptible to turnovers, also he is fast, so he can break out of the pocket and pick up solid yards and spread the defense if he needs to. Remember in week 12? Where they actually went up against a good defense? Ravens crushed them 36 - 7. I don't believe in Phili's recievers either, the only one to me that has any talent or explosiveness at all is DeSaun Jackson... AND HES A ROOKIE. Not to mention they lost L.J. Smith their starting TE. I think Minnesota will come more prepared for this game and take it by a field goal.

I'm calling for Tarvaris Jackson to give up atleast 1 INT and be sacked a handful of times. He's not very mobile, and with Jim Johnson blitzing the hell out of him, he'll take a few hits early on, and then make some bad passes attempting to avoid some hits.
Vikings will try to put alot of pressure on aswell, however the bird's O-Line has been amazing all season, and McNabb has a better ability to avoid the rush and scramble out, while still making half decent decisions (everyone does have a retard moment though).
What it's going to come down to is if Andy keeps his balanced attack and doesn't go back to his 75%+ pass ratio.
-----------
@ Thunder - The birds defense has been making the stops all year apart from a few games. The only place they've lacked is forcing turnovers. The defenses as far as I'm concerned will nullify eachother seeing as they play very similarly. It will end up being about the offense, which is why I made the above post regarding quarterbacks.
Kevin Curtis isn't a good reciever, are you serious? He's an all around threat.
LJ Smith is overrated, most Eagles fans will tell you that. Brent Celek will take his place and do just as well if not better.

I agree, Ive seen McNabb even break off of pass rushers to avoid sacks. But when someone does hit him, he tends to fumble ;)
He might have too, if Minn shuts down the running game like they should. It will be an interesting game no dought, I'm just picking the upset.
Hatchet Klown
12-29-2008, 02:49 PM
Just one scenario: Throw Westbrook in the slot for another viable reciever giving you three solid threats, and put Buckhalter in the backfield. If Minnesota crowds the box with 7 or 8, just quick audible for a pass out to the flat for a 6+ yard gain, if not, let Buckhalter do his thing and average 4.7 yards per carry again.
Eagles will be mixing it up, Minnesota won't be able to shut down an entire aspect of the game. I do think however it will be tough to run against them, but it will happen and will be successful. If you think the Childress factor will come into play, we know just as much about him as he does the birds, so it's a non-issue.
Eagles 31-24, my prediction.

Indianapolis Colts (12-4) at San Diego Chargers (8-8) - First off, Chargers do really well against the Colts in the playoffs. Secondly, after watching how LT did and how Philip Rivers is doing, I don't see why anybody would even doubt the Chargers coming into this playoff game. They look like there old selves finally.
Philadelphia Eagles (9-6-1) at Minnesota Vikings (10-6) - Adrian Peterson is going to run right through them. Eagles need to learn to stop the run this week or they won't win this game.
Atlanta Falcons (11-5) at Arizona Cardinals (9-7) - Michael Turner all the way. The Cardinals are not going to be able to stop him. And if they do, Matt Ryan will just throw it down the field.

And yet they are still allowing 100 yards per game. Just because they are 4th, doesnt mean 4th is good.

100 yards of total rushing isn't that bad, at all. Now letting a single player run all over you for like 100+ a game, that's where it can start to get ugly.
One of the biggest turning points for the Birds this year came from a very unlikely place, Kyle Eckel. Being able to pound out yards when needed; not using a defensive lineman turned fullback in clutch situations, makes all the difference.

"OKay...Chargers are 8-8. They are first with in the AFC west with not a very good record...it happens. "
Ele, you either failed at reading or made a bad attempt at evading looking foolish... or both. Frankly I think you made a stab in the dark at "not being able to stop the run." And then attempted to do some sort of cover up which was then called out as stupid.
But then to back it up with this is even more odd. Taking any given weak section of the league any given year, there will often be an 8-8 team make the playoffs. But 4th "in the whole league" is just that. You can't really argue with it.
While it's true that the Vik's have the best run defense, it would logically be weak as well if the whole league has such bad run defending that 4th is considered abysmal. Thus your point is moot. Even taken with the absolute values presented (77 yards to 92) the difference simply isn't large.
To make things even more ironic with your assessment, is that the Eagles have a fantastic pass defense too, while the Vik's do not. (18th).
After all that, I'm not saying that I necessarily think the Eagles will win, although I want them to. But you need to use considerably better reasoning than that to explain why. :)

Coaches lose their touch. People were speculating that Paterno would be out of Penn State this year after they lost in Iowa.
Ultimately, a teams failure to produce can always be put on the coaches shoulder... while the opposite isn't always true. It sucks, but then again that's why the coaches get paid millions a year and don't have to take any physical hits, because they're pain is all mental.

Why were they getting beat down? Shannahan should have adjusted and had a better game plan to give his boys the advantage.

Their defense couldn't beat the all pro veteran line of chargers. If anything it should of been their defensive coach. Only other reason was everytime they would get near the endzone they'd screw themselves.
True. so in conclusion go eagles.

Denver fired their head coach shanahan which I think is idiotic. Depending on how long it takes them to get a new head coach if they already have one then their set if not they should of at least brought that guy in for preparation to take over either way they won't find anyone to measure of to him closest who isn't already taken would be marty formally of the chargers.

The fact that they could overcome losing their franchise QB in week 1, and come out and go 11-5 with a backup who hadn't been game tested shows their ability.
I think they did well and deserved a playoff berth, but at no point this year were the pats a Superbowl contender, even with Tom Brady.

They did better then great, they did just freaking tremendous. I think Cassell is a pretty under-rated QB right now. He's very good, great arm, He knows how to drie off of that back leg to get more velocity on his throws. He shows very great accuracy in his throws also, he may throw a couple of bad ones but name one rookie how wouldn't. Even Matt Ryan did. I was extremely disappointed they did get a playoff berth but that just goes and tells you how tough the AFC division was this season.

How with Tom Brady could they not be a super bowl contender? Don't get me wrong I HATE the Pats (especially brady) with a passion. But going 18-1? And expecting the next year to be any different? Pats have a past of.... repeating.
They lost asaunte(sp) samuel, and thats i believe the biggest they lost. There have been some significant injuries this year other than Brady, but I could not say they wouldnt of been a super bowl contender.

I think Cassell overall this year was better than Matt Ryan, but then again Cassell has had time to sit and prepare. The Falcons were carried by a strong run game and decent defense, so Ryan didn't have to make a ton of plays, although he did have over 3,400 passing yards, which is a little more than 200 a game, so not that bad.
Patriots are a title contender with Brady no question.

Cassel played as well, if not better than Tom Brady. Yes their record might have been 12-4 or 13-3 with Brady, because Brady wouldn't have had the transition games/problems Cassel had. But once he got settled in, he was a best. Which is where my whole point rides in, the pats right now would not go all the way and win the superbowl, no way. The Steelers, Chargers and Dolphins games weren't an offensive problem, they were a complete defensive collapse, which Tom Brady wouldn't have helped.
On any given Sunday, skill comes into play, but luck always has place in the game aswell. Going 18-1 last year was alot of luck to the pats. I personally believe it was bad karma for them comparing themselves to football legends before they earned anything.

Did you see some of the bad throws Cassell made? He also had some really bad overall performances, the good showings were really against mediocre defenses. Of course I wouldn't even dare compare the stat lines, I'll leave that for the Patriots fans.

We will never know though...so...really...it's hard to make that statement. If they had went 13-3 they would of had a bye most likely, and I really don't see how they couldn't win one playoff game to at least make the conference title game and then really you never know.

The game that I'm most curious too see is the Vikings and Eagles. Two great defenses against each other bashings, how will jackson throw under the pressure, will mcnabb still be on fire. How will Westbrook and Peterson collide? DUN DUN DUN!

Asante is questionable for Sunday, which may or may not work into the Eagles favor. He plays to turn over the ball, rather then cover the reciever. Either he's going to make a big play, or get burnt for a big play. So playing Brown, Shepherd, Dawkins and Hanson in the secondary might play to our advantage in keeping their receiver (avoiding the plural wasn't a mistake) locked down, and focusing in on the run a more realistic and quite possibly easier task.
PS: Don't ask why I woke up and checked my computer somewhere around 5am. >_<

328 total yards and the game winning TD in overtime?!?! Are you freakin' kidding me?
That guy just became a star.

The game definatley lived up to the hype that it had. Close game like always. Gates was the reciever after all the fuss about his injury. Tomlinson tried, but there is only so much you can do with a torn groin, maybe more. Sproles is simply amazing and stepped it up like he knew he had to. And Scifres...how has he not made the Pro Bowl? He is by far one of the best punters in the league.

Without him they probably lose. He pinned them inside the 10 yard line 3 times I believe.
Also, if the Chargers had just held on to the ball they wouldn't have needed overtime. Colts got some key turnovers (Sproles fumbling near the goal line and that Rivers INT after the big 4th down conversion) and then there was that awesome play where they caught the Chargers off guard and got that td. The better team won the game I think.

Yeah he's a shifty cat. He still has alot of Kansas highschool football records I think but it's been awhile since I've looked.
