Most Dallas fans are going to blame Romo of course.

That's because it is his fault... Why would you throw up a bomb pass like that in the 3rd quarter when it could easily get picked off like it did... its his fault.

And our secondary.

I'd blame Romo too. The Dallas D did a decent job overall, only two offensive touchdowns for the Giants and one was crazy. They did a great job stuffing the run, which is all I cared about. Fantasy football does horrible things to your rooting interests. :/

Figured I'd post this for Blex's sake. Since last night I was just too tired.

These were my reasons for that call :

1 - That was a sideline Ref, sideline Refs involve everything that goes on around the sidelines (incompletes, out of bounds on catches etc.. etc..) Now, what he was doing wasn't sideline reffing, he was looking for a penalty for a dropped ball at the time, which he shouldn't of. The field ref should of been the one there at the time.

2 - From his angle (He was looking at the Right side of the Giants defender and the Cowboy receiver) he could of seen what happened during that int. Since the Cowboys heel came flying from behind his right shin (The point where the ball was kicked)

3 - When he blew the play dead, or better yet WHEN he blew the play dead, the Giants defender had already passed the Cowboy's receiver, Romo and Barber (I think Barber was back there at the time, don't remember that well) were the only ones left in the backfield at the time and were about 5'ish or so yards away, from a dead stop, they wouldn't of caught him anyway.

Remember the old saying: There is no 'I' in 'team'?

That explains last night.

Romo may have thrown the INTs, but your defense didn't exactly stop the Giants from marching down the field.

Dallas lost as a team. One man may have stood out more than the others, but football is a team sport.

Sorry, but that's BS. Take out the ints and we would have won, just like we would have won if Romo didn't throw the int at the end of the Steelers game. Just like we would have won if Crayton caught either of the two TD passes thrown to him that he dropped in the '07 playoff game. (that was more of a team loss but meh.)

This game was on Romo. The Felix fumble didn't help matters, but 24 of the 33 NYG points were off of turnovers. You can't tell me the team lost the game when, minus the INTs and fumble, the score would have been 31-9. The Cowboys D played phenomenally for most of the game. Eli couldn't drive for shit on more than those one or two ending drives. He got the ball with short fields because of Romo. I'm not going to shy away from Romo or stop supporting him after this, but this loss is squarely on his shoulders.

Let's put this in perspective. This Cowboys team has lost: the last game at Texas Stadium, and the first game at Cowboys stadium. In my mind, the only way they can put the season right is to win the super bowl. Anything less than that is a crime with all the talent they have on this team. That's why I said 19 games. I think that if the team learns from this and really takes it to heart, they'll be there come January.

New England vs Atlanta
Not only because they are my favorite team, but due to the fact of the inconsistency of the Pat's and the fact that they may not have Randy Moss or Wes Welker.
New York Jets vs Tennessee
Sure, they Jets have shown there aggressive defense. They have something else coming at them with this defense and this pounding running game. Also, the unexpected passing game.
Cleveland vs Baltimore
Duh. Flacco's going to have an outstanding game, he's going to be throwing a lot to Todd Heap over the middle. The Browns did show something against the vikings but couldn't do anything with it in the long run.
Washington vs Detroit
Though, Detroit does have a half defense team this year. There not going to expect the passing game of Jason campbell. I do see Randel El throwing a ball or two.
Green Bay vs St. Louis
This one's kind of obvious, St. Louis just doesn't have the line they use to have. There a young team now, Stephen Jackson hasn't been able to establish himself as a premiere back in the league and Marc Bulger just doesn't have the protection or the wideouts.
Kansas City vs Philadelphia
With Kolb starting, he's going to have an amazing game yardage wise threw the air. The Wildcat is going to take Kansas.
New York Giants vs Tampa Bay
I do see Byron Leftwich having a good game, not many passes but having a fairly decent game. Carnell Williams is going to surprise us all, he's proving why he's still in the NFL.
San Francisco vs Minnesota
I see Shaun Hill having a good game, Minnesota secondary's improved by leaps and bounds but with Frank Gore in the back field he has a lot of time due to the play action.
Jacksonville vs Houston
Houston, surprising me more and more each game they play.
Chicago vs Seattle
New Orleans vs Buffalo
Pittsburgh vs Cincinnati
Miami vs San Diego
Denver vs Oakland
Indianapolis vs Arizona
Carolina vs Dallas

That's right gentlemen.

It should still be a tough game, Pittsburgh's defense is definitely top in the league. They haven't been able to run the ball well, but their offense isn't one to just sit back and laugh at. (Ok you can laugh at it, just have to pay attention ;))
Cincy's offense is much better, possibly as good as it's been since '05, and our defense has been playing very well.

If we limit penalties and especially turnovers, I think we should win. Without Polamalu in the game, Pittsburgh's secondary should struggle against our receivers. Ochocinco and Henry could have big games. Palmer is shaking off his rust and should have a good game as well. Benson, I think, should have a decent game as well. Could be a big factor catching the ball.

The next matchup with Polamalu back will definitely be much harder.

Though, the cowboys do have the best rated offense in the NFL currently right now, I do believe. Bravo on that, they're crumbling. Romo wouldn't have as many yards as he does right now if it weren't for all of his receivers breaking tackles and no-one else being there to tackle him. I've never liked him, he's not a consistent NFL QB. That's something you need to be a Superbowl QB. Felix Jones and Tashard Choice are going to put up a Valient effort. It's a 50 50 game. I just decided to give it to the Panthers. Jake Delhomme has been on the breaking point as of late. He's been terrible and I think that's an understatement. There defense really needs to step it up. I do think that Jonathon Stewart and the other back are going to run all over them. There the most versatile duo in the NFL.

I don't see what you're trying to say. The same could be said for Eli Manning and Mario Manningham/Steve Smith. The Cowboys wouldn't have as high ranked an offense, for sure; but neither would their defense be so lowly ATM if not for Eli and Mario/Steve getting lucky. Romo is a tough case. You want him to stop throwing so many interceptions and making bad decisions, but by the same token that'd stop him making his "how'd he do that" trademark plays. It'd make him into an Eli Manning, a game manager, and that's just not Romo. So the Cowboys must ask themselves, is the rest of their team strong enough to battle back through some Romo mistakes every game or two, to cash in on his big play ability? That has yet to be seen, and I think they are good enough to do it (buffalo 2007). They just need to start showing it, and playing like that against the Giants won't help...

Delhomme sucks. Terrence Newman is pissed at himself for playing so badly, and he's vowing to return to his top-flight corner form this week. Steve Smith won't be a huge factor because when Newman is on, he's on. One of the best coverage corners in the league. With all of the Cowboys' weapons on offense, even without Barber playing, I don't see the Panthers' RBs being enough to carry the game. The Cowboys rushed for 257 (i think) yards against the Giants, remember? They still lost.

Nitanius Nolund
09-27-2009, 08:54 AM
The Cowboys offense may be ranked pretty high, but their defense is quite abysmal as of late. They are averaging 438 yards against and 27 points (ranked 30th and 26th in the league respectively). They are also the only team to not record a sack or an interception through 2 weeks.

That will be the deciding factor in the game I think. If Dallas can't turn the ball over, then DeAngelo Williams will be having a good day. Delhomme won't beat you through the air, but if Dallas can't pick him off, it won't matter if he doesn't complete the majority of his passes.

@your second paragraph, I agree. But I think DeMarcus will finally come alive this week...I've already expressed my views on the Cowboys' secondary. I think Gerald Sensabaugh is going to get a pick, or force a fumble. He's a big play guy and I smell him making one this week.

Remember though, the Cowboys held Brandon Jacobs to what was it, 12? 17? yards in the first half. They gave up some more in the second, but mostly because of the 31 yard run. I don't think he would have gotten his 57 was it? I don't have the stats in front of me but I think he had 57 yards (or that may be his second half total). That's because the Cowboys' defense was on the field for so long because of Romo and Felix mistakes. If those go down this week, hopefully they deny the run like they did against Brandon Jacobs and the best O-line in football.

Well it's kind of hard to argue that the Cowboy defense was on the field a lot. Romofail made sure of that.

But I expect a game from Carolina much like that of Miami. They are going to try and run the clock as much as possible, and tire you out. Then (unlike Miami, who don't have a long yardage passing game) they can do the play action.

If Williams gets on a roll (and I hope he does for my Fantasy Football team), Dallas has a major problem. Because when you have to start putting 8 guys in the box, it leaves a lot of man on man targets, and I think Steve Smith will win that battle 9/10 times.

Yeah, the Chiefs can make everyone look great. Kolb was pretty good in his debut as a starter against the Saints aside from the INTs. He is a very capable backup. Better than some starters imo. The Chiefs may be the worst team in the NFL. The Eagles should win their next few games just by showing up.

I think the Ravens will win the division but the Bengals can definitely make the playoffs. They can go 10-6 or 11-5. 2 free wins against the browns certainly can't hurt. Plus they get the Chiefs, Raiders and Lions on the schedule. :D

Benson has been very good behind an offensive line that still is somewhat unproven. Hasn't had all huge games but he was effective enough against the Steelers. You can't expect to get 100 rushing on them anyway.
The O-line has played well though even if they're still unproven. Given Benson plenty of running room and protected Carson much better. If I'm the coach, Andre Smith sits the rest of the season even if healthy unless an injury comes up of he is significantly better than someone else. Not sure he will be though.

Agree about the Ravens, and Pitt could still go #2. Bengals could also take #1 though as well as long as we get at least 1 win against Baltimore. As far as I'm concerned, it's all up for grabs still.
But god, if we lose to Cleveland I'll flip.

AFC North: Cincinnati Bengals
That's right, I'm saying it. They drafted the best out of everyone in the draft this year, and even though they lost TJ, I think they have a really strong team. This could also be the Ravens, but I think the Bengals are going to come out strong this season. Record: 11-5-0

Yeah, barring maybe a Roethlisberger injury, and maybe even a few others, I think pitt wins our division. Cincy isn't going to contend for the playoff spot

Selective quoting ftw

Spirit_Monger

Eh, you have to put it in context and read my whole post.
I wasn't sure about the playoffs not because I doubted the Bengals, but I thought Shittsburgh and Baltimore would both have records of at least 12-4. Not totally sure Cincy will get there still, even now, but we'll see. I don't think AFC North will get 2 wild cards in. Just being logical there.

After seeing a few weeks though, it definitely could be the Bengals.

But let's look at it this way:

16 points given up in 3 games. Defenses that were supposed to be better than ours gave up more points than we did (Vikings gave up 20 points to the Browns, Chargers gave up 20 to the Raiders, etc), so we're definitely a good defense right now. If we can stop Dallas, then people will start to give us credit :p

Cincy on a fluke, and the other 2 are just laughable teams to beat.

It will be a test for the broncos.

This is true, and I would feel the same way. Especially how long we have waited and PAID FOR it to have it built. The stadium tax sucked ass for arlington residents the least they could do is defend the stadium with some enthusiasm.

The Professor?
09-28-2009, 10:02 PM
True.

Also...Delhomme didn't play too bad, and that last Interception certainly wasn't his fault. I don't know though whether to be encouraged or discouraged considering we didn't play too well yet won by 14...

Oh well...next week against the Broncos should be good. I do expect The Dallas running game to shred Denver's defense apart.

Give Denver's defense credit where it's due. Yeah, that Brandon Stokley catch was a miracle and a half, but they stilled held the Bengals to 7 points.

The Steelers, one of the best defenses in football gave up 23 points, and the Packers gave up 31.

The Raiders and the Browns might be joke teams, but they both scored 20 points in week 1.

People say we haven't played a "real team" which is why we're 3-0. Yet Cinncy is 2-1 (and many people think they should be 3-0 instead of us). I'd say that's a pretty "real" team.

Yes, Dallas is going to be the first "test", but we have the tools to beat them. Our defense is amazing right now, and our offense is nothing short of consistent.

If we can stuff the run the way we have been, we'll win the game. Romo isn't going to beat us in the air (we have a hell of a lot better secondary than Carolina), and if all you have is Tashard Choice, it's going to be a LONG day.

The Professor?
09-28-2009, 10:21 PM
Have you actually seen Choice play? The dude is underrated as hell and a helluva back, especially for a 3rd stringer.

Also, Orton on his best day is a little better than Romo at his worst. You better pray Romo has a game like he did against the Giants, otherwise it's going to be a LONG day for the Broncos.

Not to mention when they played Cincy, Palmer was pretty rusty since he played very little in the pre-season and sat out most of last year. Broncos are better than was expected but still not that great.

Does anyone read the ESPN rankings? Whoever is doing that is pretty retarded ...
They ranked Cincy 11 which I'll admit is a little surprising because of the fact that they showed them no respect until now, having them ranked in the bottom 20 the past few weeks.
But they have the Packers ranked 10 right in front of us. How that makes sense I don't know, seeing as how we beat them and all ...

I also don't think Ravens should be ranked #1, nor are they that good. They haven't beaten anyone at all so far except the Chargers, in a game they could have just as well lost, and the Chargers always seem to underachieve anyway. Not saying Cincy should be higher than them but #1 is too far.

So my room mates and I were having a NFL discussion and this poped up:
"The NFL is merging teams down to 16 teams with 104 man rosters... which team (formerly two teams) do you want to be the GM of once merged?"

I picked the Cardinals and the 49ers. I think they would be mad sick if combined.

Dude...that was years ago. Cincy would have lost that game even if Palmer played. Even if they won, they wouldn't have gotten much farther than that.

Maybe it is the superfan in me, but I refuse to let that go. ;)
He completed like an 80 yard pass on that play (threw it before Von Shitface took him out). Now I know we wouldn't have ran down the field like that every time, but I really think we would have won.
And if we did I wouldn't say they wouldn't have gotten much further ... Pitt ended up as champs, and if we would have beaten the eventual champs, we should have had a good chance to beat others.
