View Full Version : Trouble launching game
It's Alfie!

Well, I clicked "Launch Game" and the pop-up window came up, however, it would not load.
The loading bar was there but would not move at all. And I was wondering if anyone knew what the problem was; if it was something wrong with the TAO system or something on my computer.
Please tell me what is wrong.:(
Or PM me with a solution....Much Thanks
I don't know, is your version of flash old? Try downloading a new one.

Ok
Which browser do you use?
If you use IE, try this
Go to Tools>Internet Options > Security
Then hit uhh, Trusted Sites or something like that. Then add tacticsarena.com
I would try to restart your comjputer first though, or try to launch it from another browser (http://getfirefox.com)

You cant load FPS because of a javascrpit setup.
Legends doesnt have that.
So I really dont know how to help you besides just use the link to the game
http://www.tacticsarena.com/play/fpstaoplayer.php?ts=1156470706921
PS) To make it easier to use you can change the numbers after that and it does nothing... why... I dont know..)

Actually, Legends uses the same Javascript to launch as this site (modified for location of launcher). Taken from the Digisonline play now page:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function playTAO () {
var winwidth = Math.min(840, Math.max(800, screen.availWidth)), winheight = Math.min(640, Math.max(600, screen.availHeight));
window.open("taoplayer.php?ts="+(new Date()).getTime(), "TAOplayer", "toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,me nubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,copyhistory=no ,width="+winwidth+",height="+winheight+",left="+Math.max(0, (screen.availWidth-winwidth)/2-5)+",top="+Math.max(0, (screen.availHeight-winheight)/2-26));
}
// -->
</script>
</head>
Taken from the this sites Play Now page:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function playTAO () {
var winwidth = Math.min(840, Math.max(800, screen.availWidth)), winheight = Math.min(640, Math.max(600, screen.availHeight));
window.open("fpstaoplayer.php?ts="+(new Date()).getTime(), "FPSTAOplayer", "toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,me nubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,copyhistory=no ,width="+winwidth+",height="+winheight+",left="+Math.max(0, (screen.availWidth-winwidth)/2-5)+",top="+Math.max(0, (screen.availHeight-winheight)/2-26));
}
// -->
</script>
Alfie, the rest of the problems are 99% the players setup of his computer and internet. This means to help out info on operating system, browser settings, firewall settings and a host of other computer specific information would be needed.
Go into the Options of whatever browser you use, and make sure that tacticsarena.com has permission to access java and javascript. If you do not know how to do that, I suggest using Google so you may learn more about the programs you use to access the internet.

I use Internet Explorer...
Go to
Tools > Internet Options
Click on Privacy then on Sites, and make sure tacticsarena.com and tacticsarenaonline.com are set to "Always Allow". If not, add them.
Then, click on Security, then Custom Level. Scroll down to Scripting and make sure it is enabled for all three.
Make sure and hit "OK" when making changes. Then close the browser and reopen it.

Done.
Is that all that needs to be done because it's still not working :(

Actually, Legends uses the same Javascript to launch as this site (modified for location of launcher).Actually no, the files you listed are not the final launcher yet. The loading procedure is different on Legends and TAO (probably since version 055).
Legends still uses the old procedure with embedded object tags, TAO changed it to a Javascript function. I think this is because of a recent IE update, that changed the way of showing embedded content.
This problem has something to do with the flashloader though. He said, he gets the progress bar, but then the game won't load. My guess is, that this is because of "not allowed script access on other domains", but to be honest, i have no clue of flash, so don't take it as given.
Alfie, did you try to update your IE to the newest version?

Hmmmmmmm, now that I think of it... I think when I have my popup blocker on ot says Digisonline... try doing the same but now for: http://www.digisonline.com/
Also try just using the direct link to the game http://www.tacticsarena.com/play/fpstaoplayer.php?ts=1156719422968

That's funny then,considering Legends has a javascript loader inside the source file of it's Play Now page.
The Launch Now button:
<div class="launch">
<span class="huge">Launch Game: <a href="javascript:void(0)" onClick="playTAO(); return false" onMouseOver="window.status='Launch Tactics Arena Online...'; return true" onMouseOut="window.status=''; return true" class="orangeB">Tactics Arena Online</a></span><br>
Free accounts are disconnected if they stay in the lobby for too long.<br>
If you start a battle, you will not be disconnected until it is over.
</div>
The actual script is calls:
<script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
<!--
function playTAO () {
var winwidth = Math.min(840, Math.max(800, screen.availWidth)), winheight = Math.min(640, Math.max(600, screen.availHeight));
window.open("taoplayer.php?ts="+(new Date()).getTime(), "TAOplayer", "toolbar=no,location=no,directories=no,status=no,me nubar=no,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,copyhistory=no ,width="+winwidth+",height="+winheight+",left="+Math.max(0, (screen.availWidth-winwidth)/2-5)+",top="+Math.max(0, (screen.availHeight-winheight)/2-26));
}
// -->
</script>
Now, you claim it works otherwise, but that is pulled straight from the source code at http://digisonline.com/tactics/play/
Seems to me that calling upon a javascript to launch the new window with TAO in it would kinda mean it's done via javascript.

Yes, true. But like you say the Play Now page just opens the popup window. The source code of the popup-window differs:
TAO (loads flash via Javascript):
<script language="javascript" src="displayTAO.js"></SCRIPT>
<SCRIPT LANGUAGE="JavaScript">
displayTAO('055b');
</SCRIPT>
Legends (loads flash via object tag):
<object classid="clsid:d27cdb6e-ae6d-11cf-96b8-444553540000" codebase="http://fpdownload.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=6,0,0,0" id="TAO" width="840" height="640" align="middle">
<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="sameDomain" />
<param name="movie" value="fpstao055b.swf" />
<param name="loop" value="false" />
<param name="menu" value="false" />
<param name="quality" value="best" />
<param name="bgcolor" value="#000000" />
<embed src="fpstao055b.swf" loop="false" menu="false" quality="best" bgcolor="#000000" width="840" height="640" swLiveConnect=true id="TAO" name="TAO" align="middle" allowScriptAccess="sameDomain" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" />
</object>
Alfie, looks like my guess with the domains was right. Just curious: it still doesn't work on tacticsarena.com, right?
Do you have the most recent IE?

Yes, it works but only on www.tacticsarenaonline.com

Hmmmmmm, weird.... there should be nothing different.... just the domain... so that would mean your computer put TAO on a block.... poor you.
