There are a couple of things that need to be done to legitimize the rankings:
1 - If possible, and ideally, create a log of who plays who that is accessible in a user profile like yahoo games has. This way we can see who is playing gold and who is only playing grey, and if that can't be posted, at least it can be accounted for in the rankings (with a multiplier or something, like gold wins x 1 - losses x .75 + grey wins x .75 -grey losses x 1).
2 - Check the IP adresses of people in the top 50 before you post them. Who is rio? Where did (s)he come from? Is there a reason that everyone thinks (s)he only plays his/herself? Should (s)he not be penalized for refusing to play anyone top 100 / gold?
3 - Let us know how you rank! It seems like guesswork because there is no formula that we know of
4 - Make a policy that in order to be ranked, you need to show stats. This prevents a)people lying about stats to trick less qualified players into playing them, b) makes the formula applicable, and c)makes it more apparent when people cheat, ie- losing 0 games and winning 300
