Also, I can not believe I'm still leading after that terrible, terrible week.
You're suprised? I have no idea how I am in second. I attribute it all to luck, literally. (In games I can't decide, I flip a coin) Well, its worked well so far...but this week I flipped it 8 times *fingers crossed*, I can only hope...

Also, I can not believe I'm still leading after that terrible, terrible week.Everyone did bad. Last week people did not go with very many upsets, so we were all in the same boat. This week should be interesting. We have selected different teams on a number of games.
I'd just like to say, I thought I finished dead last this week. Absolutely ugly, but I stand by what I have said throughout this even with the South Florida win, Rutgers FTW!!!!
*Note I know this is a bit late of a comment and I apologize.Better late then never, and its not late considering I didnt put that up till yesterday morning. Glad someone appreciates my half hour of work. ;)
For those interested. Shaddix has the best win % with 81%. Then again hes only picked two weeks worth of games. This week should knock him down a bit. ^_- Heres just a few of the others.

Your point, this is 2004 not 2007. Jeez its like explaining math to a kindergardener. Game in 2004 does not equal game in 2007 therefore, Purdue will win ;).
Yes, what happened in 2004 is not EXACTLY what is going to happen... it might not even be close, but telling me that what has happened in previous games doesn't effect a current game is a down right lie...

Previous games affect current games when the same players are involved... so unless Curtis Painter was that same QB, then the 04 game was have as much an effect on this coming game Ty's recruiting has had on the Mets.

ehh? What does global warming have to do with the fact that Notre Dame cannot throw the ball. In fact, global warming would only help Notre Dame, seeing as warm weather helps passing attacks and people catching the ball.

Well, I know I'm late. But the only one that really matters is the SC game, and I would always pick against SC. I'm a Clemson fan. And SC probably wins anyway, so I lose that one no matter what.

Well, another game, and another win for South Carolina. Also, perhaps, the end of heisman hopeful Andre Woodson's chances (big mental errors=bad showing). The ole' Ball Coach wins again!!!!! (Note: Woodson can still make a run for the Heisman, but he is going to need big games/wins against Florida and LSU in the next two weeks.)

My only concern was how SC's offense would do if the game got into a shoot out with Kentucky. Since Spurrier changed his QB they have been rolling.

Well, I wasn't sure how good the Jayhawks were seeing as they played cupcake games for their first 4, but i was impressed. Extremely disappointed in the Wisconsin game I went to. I expected better from then, they just blew their option assignments and their opportunities. You can't tackle two guys with one man, which was the reason they got beat on the edge. I was also suprised how little they tried to give the ball to Hill, but oh well. Meh.

If LSU loses the new rankings will look like this

"will look like this"? Are you psychic?
I'd be willing to bet that BC would be #3, especially considering how they handled Bowling Green. South Florida "squeaked by" Florida Atlantic. Not exactly the markings of a #3 team.

And besides that, it's all hearsay unless LSU does not come back.

The problem was the previous 2 weeks. BCS doesn't come into play for a bit longer right? Right now it's just the polls.
Anyway, it appears to be all hearsay, LSU is plowing down the field. 3rd and goal now.

It is heresay, LSU pulls out the squeaker. So the top 5 will look like so:
1. LSU
2. California
3. Ohio State (barely behind after impressive win, I am extremely disappointed and suprised by how Purdue played)
4. South Florida (one of the best teams in the nation)
5. Boston College (behind by like 2 points to South Florida in the AP, but ahead in the Coaches poll)
I think I did fairly good this week, and just messed up my Big 10 picks, and got suprised by some upsets. 10-7 is not too bad, but im still disappointed. Thank goodness the USC game was not on there, otherwise we all would have lost.

Because USC lost due to their own mistakes while Wisconsin got just plain outplayed. USC is still favored over just about any other team they play, while wisconsin wasn't even favored against an unranked Illinois prior to their defeat.

Indeed. Hawaii plays tough, and is aided big time by San Jose State. San Jose gave them the game in the 4th quarter and the pick in overtime. You cannot afford to have those types of penalties and turnovers at the end and win. Well played by both teams.

Yes, it was an amazing game. I was shocked LSU couldn't get the 2 yards on 4th down though after what they had been doing all game.
USC survived against lowly Arizona today. Good times.

They lost their top running back just before that play. He went out for that play, so therefore they were in a rough position to get the two yards. Personally, I would have sent Flynn on a QB rollout and given him the option to run or throw.

Why Perriloux wasn't in for LSU for that 4th down conversion attempt is beyond me. Even though he doesn't throw, his presence on the field will be noticed by the defense. If he hands off and fakes the bootleg, I guarantee you he distracts at least one of the Kentucky defenders. Instead, Flynn hands it off and the entire KY DEF swarms. You can do that with Hester, since he doesn't go down on first contact. The coaching staff failed to adapt in a vital situation, and it cost them.

Where's McFadden now Gyps? hmm?
It's not exactly his fault that his team has struggled, which has directly affected his status on the heisman ballots. Meanwhile, even though Hart is the most invaluable person to his team, he won't get first merely because of the beginning of season collapse by Michigan. As long as BC finishes with one loss or less, Matt Ryan will probably win the heisman, or if Brennan leads his team to the BCS he would also have a shot. Tim Tebow could perhaps get it if he throws up some insane numbers, but those are the two I think will most likely win the heisman out of everyone.

But does anyone besides me think the voters favor SEC teams too much?
Last season i understood because they won most of their OOC games, but this season you see a bunch of 2-3 loss teams in the top 20 who really haven't done anything but beat each other.

Never EVER say a team has a guarenteed win in that series, so many times one of them have been in the top 5, while the other is unranked, or ranked lowly, and the top 5 team get their asses handed to them.
As for the App state game, well, look at it like this, for a game to be considered one of the biggest upsets of all time, wouldn't that make the team that got upset a big time team?

Kansas Jayhawks are 8-0! That hasn't happened since 1909!
Thanks for the weekly Kansas update. Glad to know they still haven't lost. But the better question is, who have they beaten? Your opponents are a combined 28-39, and include such high-class teams as I-AA SE Louisiana (2-6), Mid-Americans C. Michigan (5-4) and Toledo (4-5), the Sun Belt's Florida International (0-8), and the bottom of the Big 12, Baylor (3-6, 0-5 in conference). You're 8-0 and still only 8th in the BCS standings. The only two teams you've played who have cracked the top 25 were Kansas State, which made it to 24 (you won 30-24), and Texas A&M, which made it to an impressive 20 (you won 19-11).
After this you play a beleaguered Nebraska team (who could still give you problems), then an up and down Ok St. Another cupcake with Iowa St (currently 1-8), then the only real challenge of the year with Missouri (currently ranked 9). Good luck. I kind of hope you go undefeated and stumble into a big bowl game so you can have your ass handed to you by a real football team.

Yeah I probably won't be able to get student tickets. I'll more than likely end up in the nosebleeds. But like I said, if I weren't broke as hell at the time, I would have gotten tickets ahead of time. I wouldn't be able to do season tickets either because driving back and forth from Flint to Ann Arbor is quite the trip and I simply don't have the time to take off work to do so. Before you ask, yes I do go to U of M, just not the Ann Arbor campus. It's the Flint campus.

Yeah I'm the same way, there's no doubt that Wisconsin will go into the horseshoe pull down Ohio State's pants and stick it to them. Not really, Ohio State will most likely win against Wisconsin, but I hope it will be close and that Wisconsin will have a chance.
On a side note Kansas goes 12-1 for the season and wins the Big 12. Oklahoma will choke in the Big 12 Title game. And I agree ducks vs. LSU in the championship. Called 10/30/07. *A side note, no team finishes undefeated this year except for Hawaii who makes it to a BCS bowl*

No. UT can suck it. OU led most of the game against UT until they became lazy and let the Longwhores catch up and get past them. Btw, UT lost to TT and BARELY won against OSU, and OU crushed both teams. I think that says OU is a better team than UT.

Honestly, I think it should be UT vs. OU for the Big 12 Championship. The rest of the Big 12 teams suck. Missouri? Haha. OU is gonna crush them with another 60+ run.

OU has a better SOS and a better body of work overall. The H2H is the only thing that goes in UT's way, and if TTech was taken out of the picture, UT would be playing, but in a three way tie, H2H doesn't matter.

Exactly. Oklahoma had strong wins against Cincinatti (52-26) and TCU (35-10) that both didn't look like they were going to matter that much, but now TCU is still ranked in the BCS with only two losses (the other being a 3 point loss late at Utah) and Cincy is going to win the big east. If you went by point differential in the games they split Texas is +9, OU is +34 and Tech is -43. OU also wins out the overall point differential among all common opponents (Baylor, A&M, Kansas, Oklahoma State). Texas will back into the NCS game if Oklahoma manages to lose to Missouri (doubtful)

Would you rather have what we had before? Not matching up any great teams in the bowls (unless there was massive luck involved) and having the AP give national titles out? The BCS is flawed, but it is better than what we had before and the bowls are too huge of a cash cow to go to a playoff. The university presidents (Pac 10 and Big 10 in particular) will never let it happen.

All college sports are about money, the basketball tournament developed more because of money. In the past the NIT was just as prestigious, then the NCAA brought the hammer down.
Even Division 1-AA (FCS) has a playoff. Oh and it goes without saying that football is the only sport where the have that sub-classification, they couldn't get away with it in any other sport (try delegating basketball schools like Georgetown and Villanova into a sub-class where they couldn't compete for basketball titles). The reason they do this is they don't want to share the big football money with schools that maybe get 16,000 fans showing up per game.
It is massively flawed in terms of determining a champion, but I do enjoy the product.

While the BCS is more B and S than C, the coaches and teams know what they are getting into each year so it is fair -- though not just in some cases. What they need to do is go ahead and keep the BCS but make the end better. The top 8 teams (Big 12 Champion, SEC Champion, Pac 10 Champion, Big 10 Champion, 4 at large teams with no more than 2 from one conference total) play the week before New Years -- The Holiday Bowl, The Alamo Bowl, The Cotton Bowl and The Gator Bowl -- where it is 1 vs. 8, 2 vs. 7, 3 vs. 6, and 4 vs. 5. The winners play the next week at either the Rose Bowl, Orange Bowl, Fiesta Bowl or the Sugar Bowl and the losers would play at the other two.
Holiday Bowl:
1 wins
8 loses
Cotton Bowl:
2 loses
7 wins
Alamo Bowl:
3 wins
6 loses
Gator Bowl:
4 loses
5 wins
Week 2:
Rose Bowl:

7 loses
Orange Bowl:
3 loses
5 wins
Sugar Bowl:
2 wins
8 loses
Fiesta Bowl:
4 loses
6 wins
Week 3:
BCS Championship:
1 Loses
5 Wins
5 National Champion
This way, each team in the tourney plays at least 2 games, making the money for these colleges well worth doing 2 bowl games.
Outside of how the champion is determined, College Football is a fantastic product.

I don't like your idea at all. For one it completely overlooks the ACC as a top conference, sure I know the ACC is weak right now, but historically it has fared decently.....But I say screw the big conferences all together. I hate when a team is elevated just because of their association with one league or another. If you are going to do a championship game, base it completely on merit....if you have played a quality teams have a good record then you have earned a spot to at least have a chance for a championship game.....
Take the NCAA Basketball Championship Tourney for instance....It now has 64 teams, but it hasn't always had that many.....it worked up to that many. NCAA Football could do the same thing....start out with 16 spots....that's only 4 more games....reduce regular season games to 10 if you have to, too accommidate the play off season....the biggest problem will be the bowl games have given too much money for too long to just shut them out of the picture.....quite a problem with no easy answer.
You just summed up college football in a nutshell.
It is all about money now.

You can't overlook what the bowl games have met for NCAA football. They have really propelled the sport to what it is today. To come up with some no name playoff system would really take alot of tradition that has been apart of NCAA football for so long....
And really what makes you think NCAA having a playoff system would not produce just as much money or more long term.....
There is no playoff system for a simple reason....It's called RESPECT.
So I get negged with this comment from The Cheat lol::confused:
my god. you really are full of shit in everything you say. Bowl games are pointless. Six wins and your are in! wow....real respect there. Tradition? Please. Who gives a shit. There is no respect in the BCS. Only "old schools" with old money.

They have already shown they can redo a bit, as they added the NCS game after awhile instead of rotating it among the 4 bowl games, that way 10 teams make the BCS. It wouldn't be hard to restructure the bowl system that much. Your suggestion seems a little much for what they would be willing to do. At the very least though I think they could make better bowl match-ups for the other bowls (whoever plays Cincy is probably going to kill them). Then all you would have to do is add a few more games. With the way the system is now they already play in January, with the title game about a week after the traditional January 1st bowl games. In the end, we would have the same argument, it would just shift to who is #8 and who is #9, but at least more teams would get a chance. You would only have to add another week if you had an 8 team playoff. You have the 4 major BCS bowls, then the winners play each other a week later and then you have a title game a week after that. But alas, no matter how good a suggestion is, their suggestion box is akin to a trash can.

In a playoff system wouldn't more teams be relevant thus making more games relevant (teams like Missouri and Georgia would've been fighting for possible playoff spots last weekend)? Although I think all the games for major teams would sell out either way.

On the gridiron in the Rose Bowl, UCLA and USC fought as gladiators over who would rule Los Angeles. It was never about money.
In the hallowed halls of the ivy-covered buildings of the Ivy League, Harvard and Yale fought for school pride and not about money.[/the voice]
Outside of those hallowed grounds where the administrators watched over the occurrences on the football field who realized that people were willing to pay for this junk and knew that it was all about the money. Football scholarships don't materialize because of school pride. The materialize because college football makes money. There is college water polo and swimming because there is college football and basketball. College track is available because 100,000 people pack the Rose Bowl to see UCLA/USC. To say that one is tired of it all being about the money doesn't realize that it has always been about the money because it sure isn't about academic achievement.

OU or Texas would both kill Alabama. Alabama will be exposed by Florida. The SEC is down in general this year though. I think the game will be OU and Florida, and I'm thinking it will be pretty close.
As for USC....they lost to Oregon State....Oregon State....the same Oregon State team that got raped by Penn State. However, if USC ends up in the Rose Bowl I'd take them to win by at least 14 against Penn State. I just don't see how they will leap frog Texas in the rankings with a pretty meaningless win against UCLA (although we all know what happened 2 years ago, 13-9, ouch).
Texas and Florida actually have a common opponent, that being Arkansas. Texas won 52-10 and Florida won 38-10.

Be careful when generalising an entire conference, football really comes down to how the two teams on the field match-up. Bowl games always yield some interesting results, I have the feeling the Big 12 is going to clean up nicely.

The fact that USC lost to Oregon State (Who really played above their head this year finishing 2nd in the Pac 10 (if USC beats UCLA-- If UCLA wins, Oregon State wins the Pac 10 and they are playing Penn State again at the Rose Bowl)) is what is going to hold USC back. Right now, I think USC is the best defense in the country and would love to see them against a Big 12 team, but USC ruined their own chances by losing. If they were 12-0 right now, there'd be no discussion -- so if they don't make it to the championship game, it's their own fault.

Ya. I think so. I mean, USC has a couple good wins. But Texas's Big 12 wins would overpower USC's Pac-10 wins. Plus, Texas's lone loss came to a top 10 team with a high RPI. USC's loss to an Oregon State team with a decent RPI and not in the top 25 if I am not mistaken.

The one thing you have to ask about Texas and USC is out-of-conference schedule. USC had Virginia, Ohio State and Notre Dame. Who has Texas played outside of conference? Florida Atlantic, UTEP, Rice and Arkansas... Arkansas being the only one worth anything there.
Is it really USC's fault that the rest of the of the Pac 10 stinks right now. Does Pete Carroll need to start recruiting kids for the Washington schools and UCLA?
Texas will get it probably for in-conference schedule but USC had no cream puffs unless they were obligated on their schedule.

Virginia was terrible to start the season, they improved vastly over the course of 12 games. Notre Dame was terrible all year long. Those look like two cream puffs for me. And conference strength plays a huge role in deciding bowl placement, it always does, and not just for USC. Utah, Boise State, TCU, and Ball State are going to be punished for playing in weaker conferences, against weaker competition. You can't assume that had they played better team they would have won, which is essentially what you're arguing for USC.
I still love how you counted Virginia and Notre Dame as tough games. Do you know anything about college football? Or are you just a USC fan?

I wouldn't count Rick Saben and the Tide out so quickly....
Which brings up a point in and of its self.....How sad is it to be a Notre Dame fan? Here's a school that has their own national contract for TV on NBC.....Enough money that would make most countries in the world jealous coming in from the TV contract not to mention the boosters, and all things Notre Dame stuff, NO Revenue Sharing as they are not in a conference.....add to it A HUGE history and fan base and it's they can they consider themselves lucky if they can field a top 25 team. Pathetic!
I may be counting him out, but I at least know his real name. XD
As for Notre Dame, it's awesome to see them sucking.
USC always seems to have 1-2 stupid losses per year now that prevent them from getting to the title game. Stanford last year was pretty absurd. They always get up for the big name teams though.

When USC made that schedule it looked better. Notre Dame is balls, Virginia is average and their record is boosted by the fact the ACC is so horrible. As for Ohio State, they lose any time a real opponent shows up lately, I mean shoot, they had a close game with Wisconsin...who should have lost to Cal Poly (that poor kicker...)

Yes.
You could argue that the Mountain West is stronger than the Pac 10, this could also hurt USC.
And yeah, Ball State has no chance due to SOS. At least Utah is getting in, I'd like to see Boise State, but we all know that Ohio State brings in more money.

They're tough games compared to UTEP, UFA, Rice, and arkansas.
He's COMPARING games, not staying those were tough, but toughER than UT's games.
Yes, Virginia STUNK at the beginning of the season, arkansas did just as badly. ND may have been bad this season, but not as bad as UTEP and UFA, both of whom have losing records in non BCS conferences. And OSU >> Rice.

OU will beat Florida. Their offense is just too good. Everybody talks about the speed of the SEC and those tough nose defenses, but that OU offense might be the best ever.
And I don't get why people are bashing the Big 12's defense. Every team had a high powered offense...are you seriously hoping to hold any one of those teams under 20?
I really wish Texas had made it, they proved they were better than Oklahoma, but Florida vs. Oklahoma will still be an intriguing match. OU - 28, Florida -24.

Calling it now the Sooners will choke in another bowl game again this year :(
What's going to happen with Boise State? I was really hoping the Ducks would have took them down a notch....Now looking at Boise State's pansy ass schedule I don't see how they can not go unbeaten the rest of the year. I foresee a huge controversy at the end of the year come bowl time...HUGE!!!

I, for one, think LeGarrett Blount is a hero.
Love that he decked an opposing player who confronted him with taunting.
Love that he sent a flock of taunting Boise St. fans running for their lives.
Do not love the season long suspension. I was thinking along the lines of 6 games. They're making a bigger deal about him popping the Boise DE, but I have no doubt that having to be restrained from going after fans was what made it season long.

That would be super awesome! Michigan losing to App. State still has to be the biggest embarrassement in college sports in quite sometime.
I don't know how much Michigan paid App. State to come kick their arse, but did anyone else hear that Navy got paid a cool million to play Ohio State this weekend.....they might lose, but they leave a winner with cash like that.

LaMichael James was one of the highest recruited RB's in the nation after the 2007 season; He was the high school running back MVP of his district in the state of Texas (no small feat) with 2000+ yards and 25+ TD's; Recruited and offered scholarship by by Texas, Oklahoma, TCU, Nebraska, Minnesota (and others not worth noting, like Arkansas and Baylor) before committing to Oregon. All of those schools are known and raved about for their running game.
He's a rather huge name.

Good God that is impressive! Texas is a hardcore football state.
The sad thing here is Blount's future....his one mistake on the field could affect the rest of his life.....on the other hand James has a chance to make a name for himself very early in his college years.

I'll say. He's a redshirt freshman. He could be starting for Oregon for 4 years.
Blount's always been kind of an idiot. He's had disciplinary issues all year. Plus, he gained like 15 pounds and missed a bunch of practices. I think with a repeat of his performance on Thursday, he was bound to get replaced anyways.

Thats true. Although despite all that, he had a pretty decent season and was on the RB award watch list this year (I always forget the name of it and I dont feel like googling it).

Wow.
In SC news, UGA lost. I dont know if thats good or bad for us. On one hand, Spurrier was shown ways to exploit the Dawgs, but on the other, they are gonna be that much hungrier for a win. South Carolina usually plays them pretty tight, but our performance on Thursday wasnt that great. We usually do pretty well against UGA in Athens, so I hope it will be a pretty good game.
