I actually thought Arkansas had a chance to beat USC after the first three plays. Then they fumbled and the game went down hill from there. Although the calls were horrible in the first half. Arkansas deffence was actually good, I would give there deffence rating an "A+."

As I'm the biggest longhorn fan in all of TAOdom, Even a bigger fan than you TL, I feel the need to comment.
Those announcers sucked. Dissin McCoy the entire second half, when he played a pretty good game. Ohio totally took advantage of our missing cornerback and pounded our secondary, I belive that accounted for like 2 touchdowns, at least.
We'll get better, and prolly do ok this season, but next season we're gonna dominate fo sho.

Well, Notre Dame has an established QB and WR combo in Brady Quinn and Samarzja(misspelled). Michigan has a above average quarterback in Chad Henne. I dont think Hart and Henne will be enough to carry the Wolveries. My X-Factor for this game will be tom zbikowski, safety for Notre Dame. I see him picking a ball off and making 3-16 tackles and maybe a forced fumble.

Has anyone seen any Rutgers games? Their lookin pretty good this year.
007 GOD
09-12-2006, 06:38 PM
For the first time since 1981, Rutgers has an opportunity to start the season 3-0 as the they host Ohio Saturday at Rutgers Stadium on Homecoming. The Rutgers (2-0) dominated Big Ten foe Illinois in all three phases of the game last Saturday in a 33-0 win over the Illini.
Ohio also secured an impressive victory of its own last Saturday with a 33-25 win at Northern Illinois to open Mid-American Conference play for both schools. The Bobcats (2-0) are in search of their first 3-0 start to a season since 1976 when Ohio opened the season 4-0.
Rutgers has played some of its best football at home over the last two seasons. RU is 5-2 at home since 2005, including a 33-0 shutout of Illinois on Sept. 9. They finished 4-2 at home in 2005, tying for the most wins (4-1 in 1994) in the “new” Rutgers Stadium.
In the 33-0 win over Illinois on Sept. 9, Rutgers recorded their first shutout since Sept. 14, 2002 vs. Army (44-0).
The 126 yards of total offense by Illinois was the least by a Rutgers opponent since Oct. 2, 1993, when Rutgers allowed 118 yards in a 62-0 victory over Temple.
The last two teams to visit Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway - Cincinnati in the home finale in 2005 and Illinois in the 2006 home opener - combined for just 43 rushing yards in the two games.
Rutgers has totaled 14 sacks in its last two home games and held the opposition to nine points.

Here are the games that the TAO Gameday Crew will Cover:
#11 Michigan at #2 Notre Dame
#6 LSU at #3 Auburn
#17 Miami (FL) at #12 Louisville
#15 Oklahoma at #18 Oregon
#24 Texas Tech at #20 TCU
#19 Nebraska at #4 USC
#7 Florida at #13 Tennessee
Clemson at #9 Florida State
My Picks:
ND over Michigan. Notre Dame has to many weapons on offense for Michigan's Defense.
Auburn over LSU. LSU cant stop Auburn's Courtney Taylor from catching passes. Also, Kenny Irons, Rb for Auburn, should have a big game vs a battered LSU D-Line.
Miami over Lousiville. The Canes have never lost to the Cardinals, going 9-0-1. Despite losing left tackle Reggie Youngblood for Saturday's game, look for Miami's Kyle Wright to go deep to SR standout reciever Darnell Jenkins.
Oklahoma over Oregon. The Ducks have never beaten the Sooners (0-6). This one shapes up as the matchup of two marquee RBs: Adrian Peterson(OKLAHOMA) vs. Jonathan Stewart(OREGON). Also, Oklahoma looks to have one of the vest quarterbacks they have had in a long time in Senior Paul Thompson.
Texas Tech over TCU. Texas Tech's Graham Harrell is an amazing quarterback. TCU won't be able to stop this 6'3 197 lb. Sophmore qb. Look for this to be a high scoring game.
USC over Nebraska. I am by no means a USC fan, but when you look at this game, you have to laugh a bit. The Huskers haven't beaten a top 10 team on the road since 1997 (Washington), and they are just 1-10 against top 25 teams in the last eight seasons. USC's John David Booty is an outstanding quarterback when it comes to reading what the defense is throwing at him. Nebraska does have a great team this year. They have ouutscored their opponents 105-17 this year, but look for this to change. Nebraska will put up a good fight in the forst half, but look for USC to pull away in thre 2nd half.
Tennessee over Florida. This was the toughest game for me to decide. I am a big Chris Leak fan, but I see the TN defensive line putting pressure on him. After Tennessee's upset over #9 California, TN is proving to be a contender for the SEC crown behind JR qb Erik Ainge. Always an exciting rivalry, this is my pick for the game to watch this weekend.
Clemson over Florida State. A gutsy call I think, but I say this could be a good one. Many experts are picking FSU to roll over Clemson. I personally think that it won't be a breeze for the Seminoles. I think Clemson will put up a strong fight and possibly even come away with a victory.

#11 Michigan at #2 Notre Dame
For this game I believe Notre Dame will win. Brady Quinn is goong to have a big game. I don't think Michigan will have an answer.
#6 LSU at #3 Auburn
Now I am not sure on this game but I believe LSU will pull it out. Auburn looked strong but I think that they won't be ready for LSU.
#17 Miami (FL) at #12 Louisville
For this game I have to take Louisville, its much closer. But to be honest I know almost nothing about either team for this game.
#15 Oklahoma at #18 Oregon
Oregon, I think they will play hard and suprise Oklahoma. So I pick them for the upset.
#24 Texas Tech at #20 TCU
Frankly, I must be honest, I have no idea about either team. Sorry, no comment.
#19 Nebraska at #4 USC
I agree with 007, USC will win this one, I'm sorry Huskies but I don't think they have a prayer.
#7 Florida at #13 Tennessee
Florida is my choice, because they seem to always be good contenders no matter what, they will play solid football and beat Tennessee.
Clemson at #9 Florida State
I don't know enough to comment on this game but I will pull for the under dog and pick Clemson.

Well, It looks like I am having a so-so week. I was way wrong about ND, Texas Tech and Miami. My upsets Clemson over FSU, and TN over Florida are in process. :D
Te he.. he he...
*Sings hail to the victors*
Hey, it's hard being a Michigan fan only 15 miles North of columbus ;)
But hey, I was honestly surprised when I saw everyone picking ND so highly above Michigan, I mean no answer for Brady Quinn? And I'm not just coming on here and spewing the victors bull shit every where, I honestly thought Michigan had the game (although I didn't think by that much :D ) the whole, including the days before the game :)
But hey, in my eyes, ND has ALWAYS been over rated, including last year (obviously) when they where blown out by OSU (as much as I hate them :/).
PS: Sorry for spelling and grammer mistakes, I am diabetic and am currently "low" (Ilow blood sugar) ;)

Okay, seeing as this thread is dead and the ranking polls are a mess, I'm going to pose the question of the season:
Assuming there are no major upsets for the rest of the season, which teams should go to the National Championships? And why?
Darn... USC lost.
I would've said Cal, but their schedule just doesn't contain any more big name teams that can carry them high enough in the rankings.
So now I'm going with West Virginia because *I predict* that they'll go undefeated along with OSU. And the the depth/competitiveness of a single conference changes every season so Tuberville can suck it up and get to the championship game via the same route everyone else takes.
I don't think W. Virginia gets past Louisville....It's gonna be a good game though!

Pretty shitty deal considering how hard the NCAA has cracked down on other schools in years past.

Yea...app state is a Div. 1 "playoff" team, this includes all of the schools that were formerly Div. 1A and Div. 1AA, but they changed it to make the scheduling more fair, and to give the schools that arnt as good (like App state), a shot to play the big "powerhouses" (like michigan).
But then again, this game dosent prove that App. state is a better team than michigan, because they obviously arnt, all it shows is that michigan took app state took lightly, and came into the game mentally unprepared
Congrads to App State!!! Just like David vs Goliath...Goliath falls on his face...except this time he has to get back up with the rest of the world laughing and mocking him.
Not only do they get a nice payday of $400K for playing the game in front of a crowd of Michigan faithful, but they walk away with the cash and the win. A win that has probally ruined Michigan's year and their coach. This could really propel App States program for years to come.

yeah, it was a very good game, which is WHY Michigan shouldn't be ranked. When you're given ten time as much resources and 30 extra players, you're supposed to blow the other team out of the water.
Preseason rankings are based on hype and hype alone, being ranked in the top 5 means you're SUPPOSED to be good, not that you're ACTUALLY good.
If they don't drop past 20, there will be a lot of complaining.

It was a good game...but when you compare the two programs and what each is capable of, consider that they were playing in their own home stadium surrounded by their own fans and yea they had their asses handed to them.
How many blue chip players do you think play for Michigan? How many you think play for App State???

But ND... yeah. I have no idea why Weis isn't on the hot seat. His teams perform worse in big games than Carr's. At least Carr beat him. And he had the preseason number 2 team last year too. Yet every win is attributed to his amazing coaching and every loss to Ty's horrible recruiting?!!!

Now, does this mean that you actually ARE a 20:00 runner, no, just because you lose a game, that doesn't make you worse, it means you either had a bad day, or more in the case of football it just shows you more what your team is made of. While even I think Michigan was over rated at 5, I am now ridiculously pissed they're not in the top 25. Honestly I think that they could take the bottom half of the top 25 with maybe 1 loss. I am also dead serious when I say I still think Michigan can and will win the Big 10.

Right. But preseason rankings are based on pure speculation while the first game, even if it's an outlier, is something solid with which rankings can be based upon. Michigan did not play like a top25 team on Sat and LOST to a div 1-aa team. Say what you want about how good they are, Michigan has 20 more players (that's almost an entire recruitng class) and better everything AND they even have an advantage in recruiting.
A team like Duke losing to a div1-AA is possible because a recruit would choose playing for 1AA championships over nothing, but Michigan is a 1A title contender and has no such issue.
Had they won, you could say they started slow but pulled out in the end, but they started slow and were held off by a team with a lot less to begin with. No matter how you spin it, Michigan lost a game a top25 team should not have lost. Thus they are no longer top 25 until they prove otherwise.
Granted, I'm picking Michigan to beat Oregon next week because teams with good senior leadership usually rebound after tough losses and play better than ever.
I agree, they didn't play like a top 25 team, and that was kind of my point, they had a shit game, it happens. But you lose a team, your skills don't get worse. You just had a shit game. And to be honest, I thought their offense did ok, it was their D that sucked it. Hard.
But you're going ot tell me they couldn't take Rutgers, Nebraska, Auburn, Arkansas, TCU, Hawaii, Georgia Tech, Boise State, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Clemson...
Because I definantly think they could. but meh, only way to see is to see what happens this Saturday :)

If the played like they did thus far this year, the answer is a definite no. And that's my point.
Should we judge teams by what they've done or what we think they can do? The answer should be both. But Michigan just proved that was we though was wrong, thus we can only use what they've done this season to measure them...

It wasnt not really overshadowed because it was expected.
Also, Clemson has been a good team for awhile now. They have won their divsion of the ACC three out of the past four seasons I believe, and they have beaten Florida State four out of the last five meetings if I remember correctly. Either way I remember them saying Tommy Bowden is 4-5 vs his son Bobby( clemson coach). Either way that win is not suprising at all, especially considerng the shape Florida States program is in right now.
^^
CRX... During the bowls last season we made picks on who would win a few of the games. Since i'm not involved in fantasy football, and I enjoy college football 100 times more....would you be interested in picking the winner of 5-10 games each week. Obviously starting with this week, anyone can be involved... and of course ill keep track of the scores of everyone. At the end of the season we will have a winner. I think the bowls should be done seperately, that way we can have a regular season champ and a bowl winner.
I think a good format would be to choose the games we want monday, then have the picks in by wed or thursday maybe friday if there are no week games.
Color/bold your winners.

I'm going to go out on a limb and make a prediction. Michigan will beat Ohio State this year, maybe even crush them. My reasoning? Articles like this one...

Insult to injury ..bad move
I also ran across this on ESPN today. This is from last seasons Sugar Bowl LSU vs Notre Dame

Haha clacker. Last year, my roomie was from Ohio, he disappeared from our lives for a week after that last game. But the good news it, he did get over it (in appearance). Hehe.
Anyway. Worker, why only 5-10 games? Shouldn't we just predict all of the top 25 games?

Sounds good...I kinda threw the idea together during my morning coffee break. Lets start top 25 next week, as many people have already voted. Unless the people who have posted want to do it this week. The other reasons I didn't do top 25, easier to keep track of and, more importantly, I can add games that could go either way, instead of blowouts* that the top 25 tend to have for most of the season.

(9) Virginia Tech
vs
(2) LSU
Score: LSU 24, Virginia Tech 13
Reason: Did you see how virginia tech ran last week, absolutely no way they'll run any better against LSU. Only reason they score is a great beamer halftime speech
------------
South Florida
vs
(17) Auburn
Score: Auburn 27, South Florida 10
Reason: Auburn though not very good, has cox who will jus barely get the job done, for a whopping 210 yards (most likely). Plus, south florida struggles on the road.
------------
(19) TCU
vs
(7) Texas
Score: TCU 31, Texas 21
Reason: TCU blows them out early, shocks texas, even though brown told them what to expect. Halftime speech fires Texas up, but not enough to beat an extremely underrated TCU team. Colt Mccoy underpreforms bigtime.
-----------
North Carolina
vs
East Carolina
Who really cares what the result is?
-----------
South Carolina
vs
(11) Georgia
Score: South Carolina by a landslide
Reason: Georgia is so overrated it is ridiculous, and it doesn't matter how good they are at home because South Carolina has a better quarterback, and a better coach. End of story.
-----------
Oregon
vs
Michigan
Score: Michigan 35, Oregon 31
Reason: Michigan just a tad bit fired up here, not letting a good Oregon team beat them again. Lloyd Carr is still on the hot seat because its just too close a game for his naysayers. Porous defense stops them just enough for the win.
-----------
N.C. State
vs
Boston Coll.
Boston College with an easy win (have you seen NC State!)
-----------
(22) Boise St.
vs
Washington
Score: Boise St. 24, Washington 21
Reason: Ian Johnson carries the team on his back for a victory. Just too much to handle.
-----------
Miami (FL)
vs
(5) Oklahoma
Score: Oklahoma 31, Miami 14
Reason: Miami, though a power program, does not have talent to defeat one of the best oklahoma teams in a while.
-----------
Alabama
vs
Vanderbilt
Score: Alabama 17, Vanderbilt 3
Reason: Great coaching by saban wins game, despite Alabama with very little good players. However, vanderbilt has less.
Note: Not all these scores will be correct, i apoligize in advance

Color/bold your winners.
(9) Virginia Tech - They are just coming back from the devastating shooting, and looking good, but will be over powered by LSU
vs
(2) LSU - Ranked 2nd this year, they have to prove that they can live up to that high pre-season ranking, and they can do it with their massive O-Line.
------------
South Florida - An unknown D-1AA (or D1 "championship" team, if you will) Can not match up to Auburn's strength
vs
(17) Auburn-This game should be a blowout for AU
------------
(19) TCU-TCU steps up to the plate every year taking on some of the biggest names in college football, they are always good, but never exceptional
vs
(7) Texas-Colt Mcoy should have a great game against TCU's weak secondary
-----------
North Carolina-Another relitivley unknown D-1AA school, with little power in the running back position
vs
East Carolina-Played well in their season opener against Viginia Tech, and should play well against UNC
-----------
South Carolina-Yet another unknown D-1AA school, But USC is very good in their division, but can not match up to Georgia
vs
(11) Georgia-This game should be a no-brainer blow out, it is very possible that georgia will not play any starters all game
-----------
Oregon-Very strong team this year, and can compete with any team they are matched up against
vs
Michigan-Michigan has something to prove to the college football world, and you can bet anything that they will come into this game pumped up, and ready to win
-----------
N.C. State- Their team has suffered major losses in the secondary and linebacker spots, they should come out with a reletivley weak defense
vs
Boston Coll.- BC is always a strong competitor, very small school, but has a lot of heart
-----------
(22) Boise St.-Everyone knows what boise accomplished last year, and they are coming back this year with the same potent offensive scheme, and Ian Johnson looking to prove himself
vs
Washington-Washington has an ok team this year, but they lack in the passing game, but they should play well against BSU
-----------
Miami (FL)- Miami has a decent team every year, has was a powerhouse back in the late 90's and early 2000's but has suffered a dry spell in recruits
vs
(5) Oklahoma- Oklahoma is always a force to be reckoned with, coming off only an ok season, OU is looking for a national championship this year
-----------
Alabama-The crimson tide should blow out vanderbilt with their amazing defensive blitz package
vs
Vanderbilt-Vanderbilt has a weak time this year due to losing many recuits to higher D-1 schools
AND THOSE ARE TEXY'S PICKS!
Enjoy :)

As you should be texas, i mean even i had no idea what division south florida was in. And north carolina might as well be in 1-AA for how bad they are (granted good coach in Butch Davis). But, south carolina in 1-AA, get real, or figure out what people's initials are xD. But i'd like to say that TCU's secondary is not as bad as it might seem, and Texas is going to be the next big team to be shocked at home. Plus, did you see Louisville struggle with Middle Tenn. State xd. Granted they won, but umm, can you say troubles.

louisville won 73-10, in my opinion, that isnt struggling

Umm, in week 2, that would be tonight, they only won by 16, and were only up by 3 at half time. It was an extremely close game the entire game, at the end they pulled out a bit. Once again, be sure to read the whole message. But the first week they did fine, but this exposed a weak louisville defense. Which was definitely exploited by a decent, at best, middle tenn. state team

Well, we all know UL didn't play much D, but their offense is good enough to get them through shootouts.

South Florida has only been in 1A for 7 years, and in the Big East 3 I believe.
North Carolina was a pretty consistant bowl team in the 90's.
Iv read in several places TCU has one of the top 10 d's in all of college ball, regardless of their secondary.
I watched some of the Louisville game and it was pretty entertaining. Its easy to forget though that your BCS teams last year barely got past opponents they should of slaughtered on paper. So I wouldnt look to much into it. As long as they win, it does not really matter till they play their big games.

TCU's had one of the most consistent and best D's in the nation in terms of stats, but one can argue their opponents haven't exactly been offensive juggernauts.
Yeah, remember UF needed a blocked FG AND extra point to avoid losing to SC and they needed a last second TD to get past Tenn. As long as a team finds a way to keep winning, they shouldn't be dropped. IMO, the manner in which you win should only be used (after SOS) as a tiebreaker in ranking teams.

Well, the biggest problem was i wasn't coherent until the 00's and though south florida is in the big east, they aren't exactly a member of the big 3, just basically stating their anomnymity might be a bit of an excuse for texas. And i'm merely stating that the louisville game show's what their weakness is, defense. Which incidentally is also West Virginia's weakness as well. Plus, TCU is one of the best teams that no one pays attention too, but their secondary is the weakest part of their d, which i think was what texas was referring too, as their excuse for losing. But id just like to say rutgers is, and always will be my pick to win the big east. Enough offense to contend, and more than enough d to slow down the firesquads in Louisville and WV. Go Greg Schiano!!!! (Just did my research, and yes NC was a contender in the '90s, but it will be two years until they contend in the ACC, no matter how good butch is.)
