I don't think TAO has a Poet's Society, so I'm creating one.

The rules are simple.

Do not steal other works
If you post other works, give credit where credit is due
You may rate other's works on a scale from 1-10
Do not insult other works, if you must, use Constructive Criticism!!
All types of poems are welcome here
Poem discussions, obviously
Don't be afraid to ask for advice, if you want some!
Write not from your mind, but from your soul! Those are the best works!
Have fun!

I'll post a work soon.

EDIT: Okay, here is a poem.

Hope

'Tis the feeling that all sorrow shall drift away,
'Tis the sensation which uplifts the soul in bad times,
'Tis the emotion which fills the minds of younglings,
'Tis feeling s hope; 'tis sensation, hope; 'tis emotion, hope,
What sustains the mind through the toughest of times,
Maintains the spirit against pain not physic,
The structure of looking towards a bright future,
'Tis sustenance is hope; 'tis maintanence, hope; 'tis structure, hope,
It drives the human in everyday life,
Pushes the men to the furthest of limits,
Regulates the woman's normal calm composure,
'Tis drive is hope; 'tis push, hope; 'tis regulation, hope,
I know not what you for, living your life,
Yet I know why I live and fight, and that is for hope

Soo....what d'you think?

This includes raps, no?

Eh, yes, Rap is a type of poem. But the Rap Attack and Rap Discussion Forums are strictly Rap, so I made one for all types of Poems.

I don't really condone cussing in Poetic works, but since it is a form of expression, what I say about that doesn't really matter.

I posted a poem...it's in that first post...

No poetry thread? Have you forgotten about this little gem (http://www.tacticsarenaonline.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5013&highlight=poetry) of erudite wordplay? As most people probably know, Kuja was an alias for Lord Ach and I made that thread to poke at him a bit. It never really caught on however. :(

Also, why do you type so tiny? It's hard to read your whispering.

Also, I like your advice about writing from the soul. But what about the people with really stupid souls? Maybe they could write from their mind (though that's probably stupid too) or, better yet just steal a poem from someone that doesn't suck.

Nahhhh . . I'm kidding! Kidding! Obviously no one here has a stupid soul. Gosh, why is everyone so touchy?

I never searched for a Poetry Thread. It was my blunder, so I deseve negs. Where are the Neg-Bombers?

Anyways, that was a Poetry Threat. This is a Poetry Society, and if it catches on, we'll have members and such.

Nevertheless, I probably should have necro'd that Thread.

What's that you say? I can't hear you because you're typing so small.
(BTW, what if someone typed small but in caps? Would that be like WHISPERING AND SHOUTING AT THE SAME TIME?)

As for my stupid Poetry Thread, I hardly think it is deserving of a necro. And anyone who negs you for making this thread will have to come through me first!

One of my favorites, in iambic pentameter at that, from V for Vendetta.

"Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran, cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a bygone vexation stands vivified, and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V."

The Cheat posted it here (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showpost.php?p=965076&postcount=52855) first.

some of my old verse, from Realist's contest:

listen to the wind blow,
look at all the children,
playing like only they know.
ignorant of the coming storm, they be in bliss.

we cannot be ignorant,
we have been hurt, we have learned.
now we know, but what we know we cannot say,
that hurts more than knowing.

look at all the children
carefree they play in the path of the storm
we see the children, we hear the wind blow
we know the coming of the storm
but we cannot tell them
we know not how
we can only watch.

look now again at the children,
look closer, look at one child.
he looks not at the play, which he has grasped.
he looks away, he looks around, he looks afar.
now he hears the wind, he sees..something
now he knows something comes
the child is like us, he know something wicked this way comes,
but he cannot speak of it, his mind is all thumbs.

we must watch, that is our fate.
but the child will not just watch,
he is a child, he has a gift, lost to all else,
he can act, he need not think, he screams.

look at all the children, look at the loss of bliss,
as terrible knowledge is gained and peace is lost.
they flee, knowing something is amiss,
they saved themselves, but at what cost?

and what of the first child?
the child whose mind roamed free,
only to know the coming of the storm,
his mind is closed, refusing to see,
human clay is shaped, it takes its new hard form.

and what of us? the trees?
we stay, we do not flee.
we watch; we watch the coming of the storm.

i'll post more as i find them on my hard drive.

Swartzstrom, why do you post in small fonts? I'm used to reading the generic forum's font, so when I see your posts I often times just ignore and don't read them because I don't feel like looking harder to read what they say.

Fire burning in the night,
Like the sun it's burning bright

Looks like demons have been here,
Laughing over screams they cannot hear

Few bodies remain uncharred
Many ended up behind iron door, barred

12:00 clock, no church bell
The location of this poem's Hell.

A little something my brother wrote. I think he's goiong to be a pyschotic person.

I have really low self-esteem about myself. I'm small and insignificant, and I feel this way all the time. Nothing I say matters, so I post in small fonts with the knowledge that everyone will probably ignore it.

Emotion, Logic, Heart, Judgement, and Mind

That mist of darkness which clouds one's judgement
Becomes thicker and thicker with each passing moment
Emotions of love and joy, hatred and sorrow
Blend together and hide in one another
The mind is distracted by feelings of heart
Logic is subdued by subtle emotion
Through the mist the mind battles the heart back
And uses the logic to subdue the emotion
Judgement seperates love, joy, hatred, and sorrow
Places them in categories to be used like tools
Judgement, Mind, and Logic feel as though they've won the fight
While Emotion and Heart merely bide their time
And while these forces battle with each other
One 17-year old boy is left in the confusion, forever destroyed

What d'you people think?

shelley and browning are my favorites. did y'all know that stephen king's dark tower series was inspired by browning's work "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower came", which takes its name from the last line of ole' Billy Shakepeare's King Lear which again takes the line from a fairy tale called "Childe Roland".

uniq, you should try your hand at this, i get the feeling you'll be good at it. ;)
