It has been 5 years since the world trade center building fell due to terrior attacks. This is the main reason why i joined the marines. .I went out for lunch today and the people seating in front of me was talking about it. I was watching it on the news today also and i felt like i was going to cry. Every time i watch or hear something about 911 i always get so sad. i have watched every 911 movie that ever came out and i get so sad about it. I still don't understand fully why this had to happen and i don't think no one every will. God bless all those that have fallen, those 20 people that found alive and for all the friends and family who had a loved one fall. This is the main reason why i joined the marines. what are your fellings on this meaningful day?

Have you ever noticed how, the human race, tend to draw attention back to bad parts of our history and remember bad incidents rather than celebrate good ones?
9/11 is anually remembered, 7/7 is annually remembered here in Britain. I am fully aware that it is a matter of respect however I really hate the way we always concentrate on the negative aspects of life. The media is to blame in my opinion but that's another thread.
Respect and confidence to those involved in the 9/11 terror attacks.

The 4th of July is more widely celebrated than the 9/11th rememberance.
It's important to both celebrate and/or remember the major events in our country's past, good or bad.

My father has pictures of the plane hitting.
I had to do a report today on if I think that 9/11 should be a national holiday, and in my eyes..I think it should. I think we should remember this.
You're right, Sensai. We do remember the bad things, because that's what draws us closer together.

Because it's our nations history. It's what we're going through, both good and bad, we do it together, as one.

Like on my myspace I get all these "Never Forget" and 9/11 rememberence comments and bulletins then on the forums too. I know it happened, I know it was big, but I don't understand why so many people who were actually effected very little by the situation feel the need to advertise it to me, someone who could care less.
I think about when I want to, not just on aniverserys. I think people that do the whole 9/11 5 years later are a bunch of people who are trying to hard to care at the right time.
If you lost someone, then I am sure you mourn every other day just as much.
If you are a soldier, I am sure you fight just as hard ever other day.

Why?
There is no reason, this thread is dumb.
The fact that this is a national "remembrance" day is dumb. The government is just doing this to make you forget about the war in Iraq.
If you really want to remember/honor the people that died on 9/11 then do it every day. Don't forget about it all year long and then "pray" or something stupid when Congress tells you to.
Today in my school we had a "moment of silence" specifically for 9/11 at about 8:43 or whatever, when they announced it on the morning anouncments, this kid named Moustafa was like "that's gay!". I had to warn him, "You can't say that, people will call you a terrorist."

Why is it that we have to keep poking at this fresh wound in our hearts? It's not the rembering part, but the media. The media is taking advantage of this to get sales, which is horrible. Thing like news: they don't care, they're honestly thinking about money.
Movies are the most shameful part of it. Making money off of glorified re-tellings of the tragic event.
As Sensei said, and I whole-heartedly agree, why do we have to just remember the bad parts of history?

I have friends whose parents were working at the Pentagon that day, luckily no one they knew was hurt or killed, but that's not really relevant to the point. Living so near DC everyone was scared out of their minds after that happened. Then a little more than a year later we had John Allen Muhammed to deal with. But it doesn't really matter. Shit happens. Get over it. Don't mark days on your calender to go back and cry like an idiot over it. If you're a patriot, fly a flag all year round, don't put candles on your doorstep on the days your calender tells you to.

They're showing a hell of a alot of stuff on TV about 9/11. The one I'm watching right now is showing it from about a month leading up to the actual date. How I think it was the CIA were warned by some sort of insider but said there wasn't enough evidence that something was actually going to happen.
It showed a part of the first plane before it actually hit, reconstructed obviously, showing how low they were flying. Just imagining flying that low and knowing you can't do anything about it...I don't even want to think about how they must have felt. God bless the victims and their families.

As for the rest of the argument..... 9/11 sucks. Sure, a lot of people died that day. But a lot of people die every day. A lot more people have died since that day based on decisions made using 9/11 as an excuse.
I do think people should remember 9/11. But not to the extent that it is crammed down everyones throat for a few days every year.

I don't think it should be a holiday.
We already talk about it all day, and we take moments of silence. I'm sure the people who died and who helped so much wouldn't want us to stop our lives all day, not go to school, not go to work, and stop everything just to remember them.
Also, it'd be giving the terrorists what they want. Everyone stop what they're doing for a day just because they attacked us! No. I don't think so.
Take the moments of silence. Remember them. If you want, watch a TV show or something. But don't stop your day.

Personally I think "holidays" are all bullshit.
Why give someone a day off of school or work. Does that REALLY make them "remember" anything, or does it give them another day to waste away their lives eating hotdogs and kicking cats?
You want to make sure kids know what happened? Make them stay in school, and for one period attend a lecture about what happend. Make it an educational experience for them, not yet another day off school.

Ehh, I agree to some extent.
I think that days like Martin Luther King Jr's birthday, or Washington's birthday should not be days off of school. They should instead be educated about what happened with those people, and how they effected the nation. Same goes with 9/11.
However, religious holidays I totally understand. If you celebrate the holiday, you know what it's about. That's just the bottom line.

Not sure where you were on that day but it effected millions and affected millions more. If you were in a large building or traveling via plane that day not only were you most likely evacuated or diverted..you may even realize that it could have been you that been in on that airplane or been in that building when they crashed together at over 500 MPH.
I think about when I want to, not just on aniverserys. I think people that do the whole 9/11 5 years later are a bunch of people who are trying to hard to care at the right time.

People have been coming together for this event every year not just at this 5 year anniversary...
I feel that it is for the good that everyone comes together to remember occasions like this. Just because some like to mourn or remember an event such as this does not mean that they don't think of the event as often as you...and it certainly does not mean that they are bandwagoners as you put it.
People deal with loss or sad events in different ways - some like to do it alone - some like to come together to do it. It's their choice and really not up for critizism for those like yourself who may not understand how the event affected them.;)
You comment on the soldiers "If you are a soldier, I am sure you fight just as hard ever other day" is also completely ignoring that soldiers are also people. They are often inspired to fight harder or demoralized because of certain events. Propaganda can and is often a big part of war...
The fact that this is a national "remembrance" day is dumb. The government is just doing this to make you forget about the war in Iraq.

911 - A Modern Fairy Tale
By Douglas Herman
9-6-6
Once upon a time in America, the land of opportunity, a group of foreign guys at a Florida strip club said: "Let's get Korans and boxcutters and hijack airplanes and crash them into skyscrapers."
And so they did.
They bought flight manuals and lapdances, Korans and double martinis. They took flight lessons and bad photos. But most of all they flew badly and partied and flunked flight school.
"But how will we deceive NORAD," said one flunky? "And how will we get past airport security," asked another? "And how many millions should we invest in Put Options," said a third?
They discovered that NORAD and the Pentagon would be having some military exercises on the exact same day they chose for their mission. Although several top US officials knew in advance not to fly that day, nobody warned any average citizen.
Next the G-string jihadists outwitted the FBI. They outfoxed the Bureau's top officials by brilliantly exposing their plans to FBI field agents months in advance. The plotters seemed to know that the FBI head honchos would never believe their most patriotic field agents. Instead they would harass these agents long after the plot unfolded.
Next the 19 outlined their plan. "We'll get past Israeli security at Logan airport in Boston by posing as Arab terrorists. We won't even check in or show proper credentials. We'll just go right on through, like ghosts."
And so they did.
But one BIG problem vexed them greatly. How exactly would steel skyscrapers, seven of them, fall down once two aluminum airplanes hit them? So they went bowling and decided that the two airplanes would be like the bowling ball and the WTC buildings would be like the pins.
Still they wondered: How to make these massive towers, built with an enormous inner core to withstand 180 mph hurricanes, engineered to survive the impact of a jumbo jet, actually fall down?
So the 19 flight school dropouts put their minds together and thought and thought. The Newtonian laws of gravity and physics, and the long history of burning steel skyscrapers (None had ever fallen down before--or since) seemed to be against them.
"What if we make the Twin Towers pancake down," said one flunky, with a face full of buttermilk hotcake? The plotters were all eating a pre-dawn breakfast special with their bleary-eyed lapdancers. A group of Iraqi undercover agents, Saddam's finest, had joined them, savoring a short stack of blueberry pancakes. And so the laws of physics and logic waffled that day.
"We can also knock down the CIA headquarters in New York City, demolish the mayor's command post, and wreck the SEC records building while we're at it, crushing the entire building while smacking the structure with a few objects the size of an I-beam" said one bright plotter, remembering his Put Options.
And so they did.
The mighty Pentagon was next to fall. A fortress guarded by many layers of security, the trillion dollar war toy shopping mall seemed impregnable. But not to the 19 G-string jihadists.
They had discovered, by trial and error, that it was mush easier to fly a hijacked jumbo jet with screaming passengers than to control a small Cessna with a calm instructor beside them. The flew those jumbo jets like Blue Angels--except better--pulling ten G's before leveling off and smacking the Pentagon exactly where it had been recently remodeled.
But unfortunately for the G-string jihadists, the Pentagon bigwigs knew months in advance. The Pentagonals even published a report with a hijacked plane exactly in the center. They knew no hijacker could ever score a bull's eye---and they were right.
The flight school dropouts only hit the edge.
But by outflanking, outfighting, and outthinking the combined resources of the Pentagon, CIA, NSA and FBI,, the flight school dropouts had succeeded. Sure, they never received their certification in small planes but they had outfoxed NORAD, Israeli security and the combined resources of the US Air Force in the airspace over America.
And even more amazing: the 19 stripclub afficiandos had engineered their own deaths to look like deaths. Nearly half of them were still alive the next day.
Call it a modern mission impossible. 19 flight school dropouts who couldn't control a Cessna had destroyed seven heavily-insured steel skyscrapers and the recently remodeled wing of the Pentagon, while outwitting airport security, smashing CIA and SEC headquarteras in a 47-story New York skyscraper they hadn't even hit, while devising a brand new scientific "pancake" theory. All while remaining alive and forcing the entire US population to live in terror, utterly taxed for the unforeseeable future, to pay for the trillions in new war toys and security measures, in a fruitless manhunt to find the alleged mastermind.
In conclusion, the 19 boxcutter boyz were either the Ultimate Fighting Champions, or the the above account remains a modern fairy tale, fabricated by the very same people who placed those Put Options and demolition charges and continue to profit today.

It needs to be discussed by those in charge.
HAHAHAHA. im sorry but thats just really funny.
Not sure where you were on that day but it effected millions and affected millions more. If you were in a large building or traveling via plane that day not only were you most likely evacuated or diverted..you may even realize that it could have been you that been in on that airplane or been in that building when they crashed together at over 500 MPH.
fearing for your life because of 9/11 and not fearing for your life from a car crash is just palin irrational and you know it. so dont play that card that 'it could have been you'. thats bollocks. people feared for their lives as it was thrust in their face, just as they would if the papers carried details of every car crash from the previous day.

You are off topic Osama. The 9/11 commission is coming to get you. Giraldo will cover your arrest in a 3 hour special. Proctor and Gamble will buy air time and sell lots of Tide.
Tide? You realize those starving kids don't even have clothes to clean? They just wear dirt. Your tide will make them freeze to death by destroying their clothes. You should be ashamed.

Because you are a dumbass and in both 9/11 threads you have shown that you think it was all set up by the US and that the hi-jacked planes didnt even crash.

You forget about Mardi Gras.
mhmm sure.
Oh so you didn't know they were killing in the name of Islam? Did you think they just decided to run into a building with an airplace at over 500mph for the hell of it?
Where you been anyway in a cave with Osama?

Dude I was in a high rise building that was evacuated when this happened...for you to tell me my thoughts on the subject are irrational is rather assinine and idiotic...lol I guess you could say that it was thrust in my face...;)

Fearing for your life because of 9/11 is irrational. I don;t care if you were IN one of the towers at the time.
If you let something like that control your life through fear, then you are allowing the terrorists do exactly what they wanted to do.

Obviously spoken from someone who has never been in that situation. I am sure fear saved many a lives that day...or do you think the people that were out running from the falling buildings were just out for a jog?
I am talking about that instant in time when the event occurred not now...I still go to many a high rise as if the event never occurred...but if I heard that there were terrorist in the air like 9/11 you can bet I am high tailing it out of a highrise.

And we are talking about how you live your life now, 5 years later. Notice the topic of the thread is discussing reaction to what happened then, and how people now deal with it.
And yes, I HAVE been in situations where my life could easily have ended. And while being afraid is natural, living the moment IN FEAR is still irrational. Very common, but irrational.
What about the thousands of children that die of starvation/malnutrition _EVERY_ day?
EDIT: And you can help save kids from dying in this manner, it's too late to save the people who died on 9/11.
This is your brain on drugs...ANY QUESTIONS?
What in the hell does starving children dieing of starvation have to do with 9/11?
One last question for you - What have you done to help those starving children that you seemed to be so concerned about? If it's nothing like I suspect then why use them to in a feeble attempt to help your arguements.

I cut off my balls and mailed them to the terrorists, but I forgot to write a nice message like "here you go terrorists!" in the package so they prolly don't know it was from me.
If anyone who is afraid of flying is planning on cutting off their balls and handing them to the terrorists soon, please tell them that the balls with the shorn scrotum that they received last year were from me.

I wish we would forget it, you know just a little bit.
If you are someone cruising the web posting the 5 year nonsense, you are a bandwagoner, in my opinion.
I think we should have a rememberance day to remember how dumb this post was, if you would have died in the attack we wouldnt have wittness such a dumb post. Don't compare your myspace bulletins with this reality. Thank you.
